Announcing Senior Class Top 5%Congratulations to the following students who are the Class of 2015 Academic Top 5%; Adeline Dinehart, Ryan Forcier, Amanda Gilkerson, Hunter King, Ryan Sturdivan, William Trevena, Virn Warndahl & M atthew Young. This is an outstanding group of students who have worked very hard over their high school careers to earn this impressive distinction.
State TestingWe will have approximately 40 of our juniors and seniors taking the state required HSPE exam M arch 17th, 18th, and 19th. This is a pre- requisite to graduate with a high school diploma. We will notify students of their need to test and we will not be running a special bell schedule for these three days.

Student- Led ConferencesM arch 31st- April 3rd
We are looking forward to seeing our parents during the early release days (M arch 31st - April 3rd) for student- led conferences. These are important conferences as all of our 9th- 11th grade students will be required to conduct a student- led conference during the week of school prior to spring break. Students will be calling you soon to schedule your conference time. During this conference you will hear about your student?s progress in their classes, and you will also be approving their course selections for next year. Please make every effort to attend your student?s conference!

Our entire school staff chooses our students of the month. Students are selected based on their leadership, school spirit, academic performance, helpfulness, initiative, dependability, citizenship, sportsmanship, school involvement, manners and responsibility. * We are currently selecting our February Students of the M onth.

Washington D.C. Summer Tour 2016
Attention parents and guardians! If you'd love for your student to have the chance to explore our nation's capitol on a personalized tour, now is the time! WHS students will have the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. in the summer of 2016! Tour stops include the Smithsonian, Arlington National Cemetery, notable monuments, and many more. Senior Information
- Woodland Community Scholarships - Seniors are encouraged to apply for the Woodland Community Scholarships using the application found on the WHS website. The application is on the Counseling Center page, under "Scholarships". The deadline to turn in these applications is Wednesday, M arch 26th at 3:30 pm.
- Senior announcements will be delivered and handed out on April 14th, during lunch, in the library. All items must be paid in full to receive them.
- Senior Slide Show - M r. Van Cleef, senior class advisor, is now collecting senior pictures for the senior slide show. He would appreciate recent and old pictures of your senior. He requests a maximum of six (6) pictures. Pictures can be brought into school, but please put your students' name on the back of the pictures. You can also send pictures to him via his school email at [email protected].
- Culminating Project - Seniors, who are on track to complete their Culminating Project, should have all components of the project finished and turned into M rs. Sturdivan. This includes the Service Learning Proposal, the completed project, the completed Verification of Hours form, the Reflection Essay and Peer Review form. Congratulations to the following students for representing WHS at the annual SW WA Regional H igh School Art Show: Trevor Huddleston, Kelly Fox, Cooper Lucas, Adam Shaw and Dilan M cEiver. These students were selected to be part of the ESD 112 Annual Art Show! Their pieces will travel to our ESD and be on display through M arch 27th.
We have included a sampling of their pictures on this page. M ichael Smith is the instructor for our Digital Arts Photography Class and Carol Saari is our Art instructor. We are very proud of our Art Department and the work being done by our students in these classes.

Running Start Entrance for Fall 2015 The Running Start application process is now open to current sophomore and junior students who wish to participate in the Running Start Program in fall 2015. The application process begins at the intended college of admittance.
Students applying to Lower Columbia College need to go to the following website and follow the application directions: http: / / www.lowercolumbia.edu/ programs/ high-

Students applying to Clark College need to go to the

College Entrance Testing
SAT: Students must register for the SAT online, using this website: sat.org/ register. Woodland H igh School is now a test site; the College Board still handles all registrations online. Be sure to include WHS code #481600, so we will receive your scores to place on your transcript for college and scholarship applications.

College Planning for M arch and April Juniors: In M arch and April, college- bound juniors are advised to do the following:
1. Complete forecasting for your senior year. Look over your transcript and add any classes you need to be competitive for college admission and to advance knowledge in your intended major.
2. Continue studying for SAT.
3. Sign up for AP tests, and begin studying for the M ay AP exams.
4. Register for the M ay or June SAT exam.
Seniors: In M arch and April, college- bound seniors are advised to do the following:
1. Work on scholarship applications. In M arch, complete your local scholarship applications.
2. You should receive acceptance letters from colleges along with financial aid offers by mid- April.
3. Compare your offers of admission and financial aid and make your final selection. You must notify colleges of your decision by M ay 1st.
4. Study for AP exams.
Running Start Orientation Running Start Orientation for new interested students
is M arch 5th at 6:00 pm in the auditorium.
Sophomores and juniors interested in applying to the Clark County Skills Center next year attended a presentation by Skills Center representatives and had the opportunity to tour their facility. If your student missed the tour, but is interested in attending the Skills Center, it is not too late to apply. Applications are available in the main office. The priority deadline for completing applications is 3:30 pm Friday, M arch 6th. If you have questions, call or email M itch Kochis at 360- 841- 2812 or at [email protected]. WSU- Vancouver Family Night for Spanish
Speaking Families
WSU- Vancouver is sponsoring a Family Night for Spanish speaking families on M arch 5th at 6:00 pm. Campus tours begin at 5:30 pm. Come learn about preparing for college, financial aid, and other challenges Latino families face. The event is free and in Spanish. Translation will be provided. On Course for College
Question: M y child is just starting high school - how can we be sure to take the right classes for college?
Answer: Planning early and staying in touch with the school counselor will help ensure that your student takes the classes needed. You could also call college admission offices or visit their websites for course requirements. Different colleges have different standards. Generally, they prefer students to take four years of English, three to four years of math, lab sciences and social studies, and at least two years of the same foreign language. M ost recommend one or two semesters of arts courses. Colleges want to see students stretching themselves by taking higher- level courses, such as honors and advanced placement classes. Challenging electives in subjects like economics and psychology are smart choices too.
