Zondi and Mrs. Suzan Paul, not at all, the Newcastle Provincial Hospital was just celebrating Heritage

Day, this two happen to steal the eyes of the crowd.

Specialist Clinic celebrated Breastfeeding Week The Newcastle Provincial Hospital specialist clinic cele-

brated the Breastfeeding week with different mothers from

different race. Mothers were also given presents by the Sr.

of the clinic.

Sr. Swart also shared with the mothers a very profound in-

formation about breastfeeding. Underneath arte some of

the points that she touched base on:

Sings of good attachment

The mouth of child should be wide open. Lower lip

turned outward. More of the Areola should be visible

above baby’s mouth than below. The chin must touch the

breast.

The baby should be taking a long deep sucks, sometimes

pausing. The breastfeeding should not be painful.

Good positioning

The mother and the child must be close, facing each other.

The mother should support the baby’s entire body, so that

the baby’s head will be straight.

Advantages of breastfeeding

• Bonding between mother and child

• A perfect combination of nutrients

• Protects baby against infection

• Protects allergies

• Helps contract the uterus

• Cost effective

• Always available

• Baby will have a higher IQ (boost intellect)

• Healthy, happy baby

• Prevents Obesity

Sr. Swart encouraged all the mothers who at-

tended.

The team from Malesia visited Newcastle Provincial

Hospital to conduct MMC using what is called TARA

CLAMP, which is a fast and cheap way of circumcising

male patients.

This follows the call that was made by the MEC for

health Dr. S. Dlomo. Young boys from around New-

castle responded to this call and came in their num-

bers to be circumcised. This day was also graced by the

presence of the minister of health, who also positively

spoke to the boys.

“It is important that males undergo circumcision at the ten-

der age so that they stay clean and not spread infections and

disease” said the minister

The doctors from Malesia were very pleased to see the

turn out on the day. The whole process started with a

small briefing where the minister also thanked the

team for helping the department with their skills and

experience.

The team leader also from Malesia encouraged all the

boys who attended not to have multiple partners and

always practice safe sex or abstain at all. Thulani Msibi

one of the boys who underwent circumcision thanked

the health department for taking care of them.

To some young boys it was not easy until Sr. L. Nku-

mane spoke to them about the importance of doing

circumcision. The boys were counseled and HCT

programme was then conducted before they can un-

dergo circumcision.

Our CEO Ms. V. Mavundla thanked the team for

choosing Newcastle Provincial Hospital.
