A ttention Members,
Happy New Year! It is hard to be-
lieve that another year has come
and gone so quickly. We want to
thank everyone who is associated
with, volunteered, helped in one
way or another, participated or is a
part of Bear Canyon Senior Center and our community. It
is because of all of the wonderful people and organiza-
tions we interact with that made 2019 a great year for us.
We saw new facility improvements, staff retire from great
careers with the City of Albuquerque and welcomed
many new faces from members all the way to staff and
volunteers. These great experiences make us hopeful and
eager to see what 2020 holds in store. Just like every year,
a new year comes with new beginnings and resolutions,
and hopefully new and exciting adventures to come. A
new year can be like a fresh start for yourself should you
choose. It can be encouraging to set new goals and
accomplish new desires. Once you have set resolutions for
yourself, it is time to begin and accomplish them! If you
set new goals for yourself, here are a few tips to help you
succeed:
1. Make Attainable and Specific Goals
2. Share Your Resolutions
3. Reward Yourself
4. Make One Change at a Time
5. Take baby steps
Here is to another wonderful and positive year for all,
wishing everyone nothing but the best in 2020!

Blood Pressure Screening Wednesdays, 9 to 11 a.m.
There are Zumba classes 3 times/week starting at
8:10am. Most students don’t eat before the exercise. I
would like to suggest that the kitchen be open until
9:30am so that many Zumba class students can have
a nice and peaceful breakfast after they exercise.
We understand the reason for this suggestion , to give
those in the class an opportunity to eat breakfast after
Zumba class. However, this is a standard set time within
our department and at all of centers which is designated
for only 1 hour between 8am and 9am Monday through
Friday.
May we pick some restaurants that are not too
pricey? Too many places are too expensive for me
and others.
Those who organize the outings try to plan a variety of
different restaurants all over the city to include different
prices, cuisine and locations,. Staff will bring this
suggestion to the group organizers for the “out to lunch
and dinner bunch” and ask them to keep in mind that not
all may be able to afford higher priced restaurants.
Have some low carb snacks that diabetics can have:
bags of nuts or chips– candy bars have too much
sugar
We will be sure to forward the suggestion to The Friends
of Bear Canyon who provide the snacks as a part of the
fundraising for the center in hopes that there is more of a
variety for all to enjoy.
How about a Motown Dance!
Thank you for the great suggestion on a theme for a center
activity/dance. I believe we have done this in the past and
it was very enjoyable and successful. Staff will try to plan
a Motown themed event in the future.
