Sports NewsPSSA T-BALL Round 5 ResultsNeutral Bay 2Captain: Jack Mulder (5R)Neutral Bay 2 played against Cammeray 1 this week and we won 22-21 in a very tight game. Our fielding was good, although we need to practise accurate passes, so that we don’t do so many overthrows. Xavier Keen (5R) was the player of the match, for his amazing fielding. His catches in the outfield were incredible!Neutral Bay 5Captain: Aliyah Campbell (5T)This week Team 5 played against North Sydney Dem 3 and we won 19-3. Player of the match was Darcy Thompson (5S). This was the first time he had played with our team and he was a wonderful addition. Areas for the team to work on include, communicating more clearly with each other and ensuring we throw accurate passes. However, our batting was of a very good standard.Neutral Bay 6Captain: Oliver Mace-Smith (5T)Although there was a mix up in who we were playing, we eventually found our correct opposition team, Beauty Point 5. We played incredibly well and won 20-5 in three innings. Joel Garrett (5K) was the player of the match for his amazing home run and great fielding. Oscar Luker (5T) and Emma Sargeant (5S) also played well, getting multiple runs between them. Our opponents played some powerful shots, but unfortunately they hit the ball up into the air, which meant we were able to catch them out. Our win in this game was well deserved, as it was a great team effort. Well done, Neutral Bay 6!

On Tuesday 22 November, 21 students from Years 4 and 5 braved the 35 degree heat and travelled out to Foxglove Oval at Mt Colah to compete in the regional finals of the ARL Oz Tag Competition. These teams were invited to the finals after finishing in the top two places in their division at the Zone Oz Tag competition several weeks earlier.

The junior girls’ team played five games. Unfortunately, they didn’t get to taste a victory, in several cases losing by just one try in the dying seconds of the game. However, they played with tremendous energy, teamwork and determination in every game. The team comprised of Cara Harris, who finished the day as the girls top try-scorer; Luana Fargeat, Claudia Stiertzel,

OzTag Finals

Bella Walker and Samantha Wightwick, who made impressive runs every time they touched the ball; and Abzana Gautum, Mia Marinovic, Alice Anand, Abzana Gautum and Scarlett Cole, who were absolute rocks in defence. Special mention must also be made of Alex Tanner, who unfortunately broke her wrist in the lead up to the finals and was unable to play, but came along as the girls most vocal supporter, team manager and photographer.

The senior boys’ teams had much more success. Despite being the only senior boys’ team in the competition that wasn’t made up of Year 6 boys, our Year 5 boys finished in third place, walking away with two wins and three narrow loses. Our boys gave away a valuable height advantage to their opponents, but made up for it with their outstanding skill, speed and flair. They repeatedly crossed the line with multiple tries being scored by Elliot Hudson, Xavier Keen, Will Pearson and Finn Robinson. Josh Ashton and Jack Mulder provided some attacking grunt, and never failed to score valuable metres whenever they touched the ball. Finn Smits and Conner Maggs showed real pace on the wings, in both attack and defence, and Tom Roberts and Ryan Powell were outstanding in defence, putting their bodies on the line to stop the often much bigger opposition. The boys are already being touted by many of the other schools as well as the majority of the ARL staff as early favourites for the 2017 trophy.

All teams played with outstanding sportsmanship, and should be commended for the fantastic way they represented the school.

KD has really been enjoying reading and writing fairy tales. We have especially enjoyed learning to play a card game called Sleeping Queens. The game, and a book called No Bears, have inspired us to write our own fairy tales.

Once upon a time there was a king and queen. On the other side of Bad Mountain lived 10000 knights and they wanted to kidnap the king and queen with sleeping potions and also dragons. However the King’s Jester stopped the knights by sending the knights to another realm and the king and queen lived happily ever after.

By Billy

Once upon a time there was a Rose Queen. She lived with the Fire King. There were four knights. One was blue, one was black, one was green and one was red. The knights wanted to kidnap the Rose Queen because they didn’t like the smell of flowers. So they crept in the castle but the Rose Queen and the Fire King’s dragon breathed fire out of his mouth and scared the knights away. The Rose Queen and the Fire King lived happily ever after.

By Gustav

Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess and a Fire King. They lived in an enchanted forest but an evil knight lived on the other side of Bad Mountain. He was jealous of the princess. One night he decided to kidnap the princess but a light shone towards the knight and woke up the princess and she sent the knight away for ever. She lived happily ever after.

Miss M Kessler - 1K Class Teacher

It has been a very busy and exciting term for 1K. In Geography we have been learning about local places, natural spaces and the environment. We were very fortunate to have parent helper Jason come in and talk to use about plants and the natural environment. Jason taught us about different Australian plants and helped us plant sunflowers in the school garden.

Year 1 had a Measurement Day in week 6. We focused on various aspects of measuring linking to what we have been learning in Mathematics. 1K participated in a variety of fun and interactive activities based on measurement. All of Year 1 looked fantastic in their Measurement Day Mufti clothes!

On Tuesday 22 November, Year 3 enjoyed a ‘Billycarts’ incursion, to support our Science unit on ‘Fantastic Forces’. During the day, children enjoyed making a billycart, racing billycarts and designing their own billycarts! Children were also given the opportunity to create their own inventions using tools such as nots, bolts, screws and chunks of wood. We also enjoyed a trip to Forsyth Park, where we became Geographers and learned all about mapping skills and how to use a compass to understand the space’s past, present and future. This supported our Geography unit, where we are learning mapping skills. We were lucky to have Gordon Wu, an-ex Neutral Bay and work experience student come along and help us. A great day was had by all!

Year 6 at Great Aussie Bush Camp

Year 6, the return to The Great Aussie Bush Camp at Teagardens for their final Hurrah; Unfinished business

The weather was magnificent for the 3 day stay. The activities were awesome. There was a great deal of fun had by all. Activities such as the dual flying fox, Lost Island and Commando were amongst the favourites. Planned night time activities also made for a fun filled stay. The challenges of the Trivia evening were the cause of much amusement; even the teachers took part !! Talking of the teachers, they wiped the floor with the students in commando

-game, set and match! No discussion.

The hot weather meant snow cones were the ‘flavour of the day’ for all the children, light relief amidst the early summertime heat.

A loooongggg walk on Jimmy’s beach on Day 2 really tested the stamina of all and sundry. Fun paddling and playing on the beach, including a sandcastle making competition, was the reward at the end of the picturesque walk along the sandy beaches.

Great memories were created and never forgotten moments of the happy days of primary school were created. Hopefully, memories that will last a lifetime in the memory banks, if not for the teachers, unquestionably for nearly all the 130 children who were there, for the 3 days of solid fun!

End of day, what happens at camp........
