Fr. George’s Weekly Message: Ordinary Time of our Liturgical season. The liturgical Christmas Season comes to an end with the celebration of the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord. And Ordinary Time Year C begins immediately. The follow-ing are some things we need to know as provided by the Ordo – liturgical Calendar:
• Ordinary time begins after the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord; Monday 14, Janu-ary and continues through Tuesday, 5 March, the day before Ash Wednesday. It will resume when Easter season ends on Monday, 10 June, the day following Pen-tecost.
• For those who pray the office, Volume II of the Liturgy of the Hours is used. • In the weekday Lectionary, the first reading is taken from Cycle I (Lectors take note please).
• All readings for Sundays are from Lectionary Year C Financial Situation of the Parish: We thank you for your financial contributions and support to the Parish over these past years. However, as you might have noticed our weekend and holy days of obligation collections and donations has been below our budgeted target. Thus, there is a shortfall in the main source of financing our parish life. Consequently, as we begin a New Year, I appeal to all envelop holders and you parishioners to please consider been more generous in your giving. I thank you for keeping faith with the Church and for continuous support for the material needs of the parish.
• The Parish acknowledges receipt of the Sum of $41,250. From the estate of Mr. Ronald Roggenbuck. I thank the Trustee and executor of the estate for ensuring that what was willed to the parish is dully given. As a parish, we continue to pray for the peaceful rest of the Soul of Ronald in the Kingdom of God whom he served so well here on earth and in our parish. Eternal Rest grant upon him O Lord, and Let perpetual light shine upon him forever. Amen.
As you may recall, we set out to carry out some maintenance work in the parish. But, it is my understanding that some of the repairs can only be done as the weather per-mits. Please we ask for your patience as we work towards accomplishing the projects you have contributed towards. Some of the projects we earlier identified and yet to be executed or completed include: *Church Buildings
• Repairs of South Church entrance – stairway/steps & Ramp (OLLH Church) • Repair of roof water leak at southeast tower (OLLH) • Completion of plaster repair @ sanctuary and vestibule (OLLH Church)
*Rectory • Construction of a new garage attached to rectory/repairs of old garage for stor-
age *School
• Brick tucking and window lintel repair • Step repairs • Trimming of all new windows @ school
*Church Grounds • Signs • Light for sign by M25 • Trimming of our Lady’s Statute and landscaping making it more beautiful
• The parish acknowledges receipt of $500 from Richard & Virginia Gentner as their continuous contributions towards the stated projects. • We thank those families who weekly make donations for the maintenance of parish physical structures. At this period of transition, Bishop Hurley has asked us to pray for Pope Francis in his choice of the 7th Bishop of Saginaw. He has asked us to say a Prayer as a Parish community and as individuals. We would therefore be saying that prayer after Com-munion at our weekend Masses and at other community prayer.

Jesus, whom God called “my beloved Son,” is also the “servant” of whom Isaiah speaks in the first reading. We who are baptized in Christ must follow His example and use our time and resources in the service of God and neighbor. From our youth: Wyatt: picked up movies off floor; Nathan, Jacob & Evan-helped clean the chicken coop.
PARISH LIFE OF GRACE Sacrament of Baptism: the sacrament is celebrated during the weekend Mass as re-quested by the family. Parents of infants to be baptized must be practicing Catholics and at
least one parent must be a parishioner (regular weekend Mass attendance). Pre-baptism class for parents is held on 3rd Saturday of every Month. Sacrament of Reconciliation. Saturday 3:30 pm; Sun-days 10:15 am except on First Saturdays which is at 8:30 am, or by appointment. Sacrament of Anointing and Care of the Sick: Please do not hesitate to call the office whenever a family member needs anointing, last rites or a visit from the priest, wheth-er at home or at the hospital. Sacrament of Matrimony: Catholics intending to cele-brate the sacrament of Matrimony must notify the Parish at least 6 months before the proposed wedding date. They are to register for premarital catechesis or course. At least one party must be a parishioner (regular weekend Mass attend-ance). Faith Formation: Faith formation is for children from kindergarten through the sixth grade, with sacramental preparation for those in the second grade. Faith formation is a journey of faith for both parents and their children. It is a structured process offered by the parish for parents to pass on the faith to their children even as the children are eager to know their faith. Please, call or stop by the office to get your children registered. Weekend Masses: Saturday 4:30 p.m. at OLLH, Sunday 8:30 a.m. at OLLH and 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony. Office Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
The 4th Annual OLLH Winterfest Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, January 26th at Ubly Heights. Auction donations are being accepted and can be dropped off at the parish/school office or at Bob Swartz’s house. Purchase your raffle tickets for a chance to win your choice of the following: a 2 year lease of a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado, or a 2 year lease of a 2019 Chevrolet Trax, or $5,000 cash. Second prize: $500 cash. Tickets are $20 or 6 for $100. Tickets are on sale in the parish office or contact Bob & Sherry Swartz at 989-479-6655. The students and staff of Our Lady of Lake Huron School are back in full swing as this new calendar year begins. Here are some highlights as we move into the next few weeks of the school year:
• Students in grades Kindergarten – 5th grade have or will be taking the DIBELS reading assessment. This tool helps teachers determine what skills need to addressed for individual students as well as students’ strengths.
• A meet and greet with Cormac Lynn, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Saginaw is planned for the af-ternoon of Thursday, January 24 at 2:00. Mr. Lynn will give a brief presentation to introduce himself and some of the goals he has for schools. He is happy to have the op-portunity to meet with parishioners and parents to hear about the great things that are happening at OLLH and to hear your concerns.
• Over the next few weeks, students will be taking the NWEA assessment. This on-line based assessment helps measure student growth in mathematics, reading, and language arts. Collectively, our students tend to do quite well hitting their growth targets.
• On January 31, the 8th graders at OLLH will be joining the 8th grade students from HBCS and Zion as they travel to the Technical Center at the Huron Intermediate School District. Students will have the opportunity to explore programs that are available to all Huron County students. Some of these choices include: Automotive Technology, Construction, Building & Electrical Technology, Cos-metology, Health Sciences, Hospitality/Food Service, Law Enforcement/Public Safety, Engineering and Design Technology to name just a few.
