MILBANK ARMS: Barningham village hall was packed on Tuesday night (October 24) when the Parish Meeting met to discuss Barningham Estate’s plans to re-model and extend the Milbank Arms as part of a scheme to create a wedding venue in the grounds of Barningham Park. Al- though most present agreed that something had to be done if the pub was to survive, concerns were raised about the scheme’s viability, loss of the building’s historic character, noise, traffic and housing, which Sir Edward and Lady Natalie Milbank attempted to allay. Details of the plans are on the Durham County Council website. Deadline for comments and objections is November 13th. THE BONFIRE is NOT a place to dump unsuitable and possibly carcinogenic items such as tyres, mattresses, foam or anything containing metal or other non-flammable material. Take them to the tip – or Durham County Council will collect unwanted household goods on request (£15 for up to six items).
