John Richard Marsh
(O’Brien)
John Richard Marsh (O’Brien) has earned a Ph.D. from the School of Hard Knocks which makes him more than qualified in the field of overcoming life’s hardships and cruelties to find joy and happiness. John loves to tell stories and has been a storyteller all his life. He wants to share them with his friends and fans. His background is not typical for an author. John has had numerous careers in manufacturing, selling, commercial construction, mortgage brokering, and now as an author. He has enjoyed being married to his wife, Jane, for thirty-seven years and she still likes him. They have four children, four grand-children, and two great-grand-children. What a blessed life he’s been given. We share compelling stories! Join us for an adventure! Readers will find more enjoyment in their lives, and maybe even a change of heart through Steps to a Happier Life. John is an active member of the Ventura County Writers Club and enjoys working with other authors as we "Encourage the Craft" of writing. John is the author of three books: The Book of John, The Secret of Sunrise Mountain, and Sunrise Ranch. The last two are historical epics following the lives of one family through four generations as the family travers the American Continent settling in Placer County, California with all the tragedies and hardships that accompany tough ranch life.
The Book of John – Steps to a Happier Life is a short, thoughtful collection of principles gained over a life-time wrought with adversity, failures, and some lovely moments of tender happiness. They are intended to inspire you, to make you think, to aid you in learning. They are keys to help you feel successful, and to live a happier life. Watch that first step,
John

What a great book! It is full of great useful information. Such a
quick read with insightful tidbits to make life in general better. We
can all use reminders to be positive, control our own destiny and be
accountable! It is a great gift idea as well. I read it over and over!
~ Jeri, Bank Branch Manger
What I loved about the The Book of John, Steps to a Happier Life. It’s a quick read and an uplifting read.
Something you don’t mind tackling after a long day at work. We lead hectic lives and the amount of energy
required to slog through a 300-page self-help dissertation is daunting. This book is a walk down a garden
path, it’s refreshing with just enough info to give some insight into making small changes to enrich our
present state. There’s always more to do, but I’m hitting some marks already. “Yay for me!” Now, press on!
~ Lori, Registered Behavior Technician
We can be so absorbed in our daily lives that we sometimes forget to appreciate
life's moments. This book is a friendly reminder of life's inspirations. A
welcome read. A great gift to anyone! ~ Francine, Financial Planning Assistant
The Book of John – Steps to a Happier Life was written by John
Richard Marsh. It is a collection of thoughtful gems. On the
surface, the individual statements are simple, maybe even heard
previously. But as a collection, and as you ponder the power of
these ideas, a person is reminded of what is important, remembers
how to achieve life’s dreams, learns the value of caring for
others, and ultimately receives direction for living a richer life.
The Book of John really does define the “steps to a happier life.”
~ Janet, School Teacher
“I genuinely enjoyed reading The Book of John and found myself
smiling frequently throughout! The approach to life this book
recommends is so easy and obvious and makes perfect sense, yet most
of us don’t take the time or make the effort to do these things on our
own. It’s obvious that the author has a great deal of experience and
wisdom when it comes to this thing called life, and I’m so glad he
chose to share his very inspirational message with all of us. I highly
recommend The Book of John!” ~ Robin, Human Resources

Financial Security
• Needs Vs. Wants. Fulfilled needs help us feel secure. Our wants can overwhelm us and ruin us financially.
• Banks aren’t your friend. They’re in business to make money. Beware of the hidden charges and fees. You don’t want to give away your hard-earned money.
• Credit cards are not good. They mortgage your future income. Avoid debt like the plague.
• Buy only what you need. Everything else is stuff you have to maintain and store. Young people expect to have what it took their parents years to acquire. Be patient.
• Buy the very best you can afford, and you will be content. Buy the cheapest, and you will never be satisfied.
• How people become wealthy is simple. They don’t buy junk that has no value.
• There are no special gifts in heaven for having the most junk in your garage.
• You’ll never have enough stuff you don’t need.
• You can be rich when what you need is purchased with cash, and what you want, you save up for … and purchase in cash.
• A rich man’s budget works 100% of the time: If you earn $1.00 – give $.10 away, save $.10, live on $.80. The dime you give away will come back to you in unnumbered blessings when you need them.
Credit Cards: a necessary evil?
Mistakes – don’t worry, just keep moving forward. Financial security, trust me,
you won’t get there immediately. If a problem can be fixed with money, it is not really a problem. If you buy a hamburger for $5.00 on a credit card
and don’t pay it off at the month’s end, you will eventually pay $25.00 in interest.
