Scientific Program The conference was one of the most successful conferences. It was attended by 76 participants from Egypt and all across North America. Forty papers were presented in various scientific areas including Medicine & Health, Technology & Education, Business & Investment, Engineering & Science and Economics & Humanities. Papers also included innovative ideas for collaboration with Egypt. The 34th International Conference of the Association of Egyptian American Scholars (AEAS) was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Long Beach, California during the period of December 14-16, 2007 in cooperation with the American Egyptian Organization (EAO).

Keynote Speeches

Keynote speeches were moderated by Dr. Amer El Ahraf, AEAS President. Conference delegates have enjoyed two keynote speeches from Dr. Hassan Hathout and H.E. Ambassador Abdel Rahman Salah El Din, Consul General of Egypt

Panel Discussions

Conference delegates and attendees contributed to two panel discussions as follows:

“International Education Collaboration: Challenges & Opportunities”

This Panel Discussion was moderated by Dr. Mohamed Attalla, AEAS Vice President. During this morning panel discussion, Dr. Galal Saeed made a remarkable presentation about higher education in Egypt and its different enhancement and development projects. The discussions elaborated on how AEAS could contribute positively and participate in the ministry’s programs. Dr. Abdallah Bazaraa and Mr. Kais Menoufi also gave excellent examples of the current collaborative efforts between Egypt and North America.

“Technology and investment: Challenges & Opportunities.”

This Panel Discussion was moderated by Dr. Mahmoud Wagdy, Chair Scientific Program. During this afternoon panel discussion, Dr. Hind Hanfi and Dr. Tayyeb Shabbir discussed possible investment opportunities in Egypt. The discussions also continued the morning panel discussions on possible collaboration between North American Scholars and Egypt.

Scholarship Announcement

The Association of Egyptian American Scholars (AEAS) announced a one time scholarship in the name of its late Past President Dr. Mohamed Badr El Din Ali. The value of the scholarship is Five Thousand Egyptian Pounds to be awarded to an Egyptian Graduate Student who is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. Program at an Egyptian university or research institution. The Supreme Council of Universities will assist in coordinating this award. Details are available on the AEAS website. The recipient will be announced in the next AEAS conference in Cairo, Dec. 2008

Awards

The AEAS has arranged for a joint Gala and awards banquet with the EAO. During the awards banquet, three Egyptian American entrepreneurs were honored by the AEAS. Each Awardee was granted $500 each in recognition of their achievements. The Awardees were Naglaa El Abaddi, Allen Adham and Ahmad Khalil.

The AEAS, has also presented a plaque to H.E. Ambassador Abdel Rahman Salah El Din in recognition of his continued support and cooperation.

Dr. Galal Saeed presented the Fayoum University Gold Medal to both Dr. Amer El Ahraf, President of the Association of Egyptian American Scholars and also to H.E. Ambassador Abdel Rahman Salah El Din.

Post Conference Coordination Meeting

A post conference meeting took place in the Hyatt Hotel which included the AEAS executive, the Egyptian Delegation, Ambassador Abdel Rahman Salah El Din, the Consul General of Egypt, Dr. Abdallh Bazaraa, Director, Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau and Dr. Mohamed Hamza, Cultural Attache.

This special meeting discussed in details next steps and the protocol of collaboration between AEAS and the Ministry of higher Education supported by the Egyptian Consulate and the Egyptian Embassy. The minutes of this meeting will be available on the AEAS website.
