A Mother’s Day Prayer Heavenly Father, Thank You for your special gift of mothers and for the example of your unconditional love they share with their children. Lord, today we pray that you will protect and guide mothers everywhere and that you will grant them your wisdom in loving and teaching their children. Thank you for the mothers who played with us, taught us, nurtured us, listened to us, tried to understand us and who prayed for us. O God, who have commanded us to honor our father and our mother; in your mercy have pity also on the soul of my mother, and forgive her trespasses; and make me to see her again in the joy of everlasting brightness. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. Solemn Evening Prayer - May 20, 2018 On Pentecost Sunday, May 20, 2018, the Archbishop will preside at Solemn Evening Prayer in St. Mary's Cathedral to celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost and to bring our formal Synod process to a close. The celebration will begin at 4:00 pm with a reception to follow in the Cathedral Parish Hall. All are welcome to this important celebration in the life of our local church! We honor MARY especially in May God’s beautiful plan of redemption called upon the faith, hope, and love of Mary. Because she said yes, Christ was born and we are redeemed. It makes sense that those who confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour also show honor and respect to his mother, Mary. And if we love Jesus Christ, we love Mary, his mother, because she gave him life and nurtured and cared for him until his public ministry began. Everyone is encouraged to pray the Rosary and perhaps even more meaningful to pray with their family especially in May. Congratulations & Blessings! The Ascension of Our Lord The Ascension of Our Lord, which occurred 40 days after Jesus Christ rose from the dead on Easter, is the final act of our redemption that Christ began on Good Friday. On this day, the risen Christ, in the sight of His apostles, ascended bodily into Heaven. The reality of Christ's Ascension is so important that the creeds (the basic statements of belief) of Christianity all affirm, in the words of the Apostles' Creed, that "He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead." Christ's bodily Ascension foreshadows our own entrance into Heaven not simply as souls, after our death, but as glorified bodies, after the resurrection of the dead at the Final Judgment. In redeeming mankind, Christ not only offered salvation to our souls but began the restoration of the material world itself to the glory that God intended before Adam's fall. The Feast of the Ascension marks the beginning of the first novena, or nine days of prayer. Before His Ascension, Christ promised to send the Holy Spirit to His apostles. Today, Catholics recall that first novena by praying the Novena to the Holy Spirit between Ascension and Pentecost, asking for the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
