WHAT IS ART?

• Art is something that reflects;

changing times, people and knowledge.

FACTORS THAT AFFECTS ARTWORK

BELIEFS AND VALUES

• What kinds of things does a culture hold dear?

•  What things are valued and stories are told? 

• What do they believe in?

In Muslim belief you are not allowed to illustrate anything from nature (including human) as a result Muslim art is very decorative and lacks any representation.

ECONOMY

• Cultures with more free time; who can spend less time gather food or other important resources, create more art.

• Do people have much time to create art? 

• What types of people finance art? 

• How much money is spent on art? 

In the Renaissance much of the art was religious, because the Church financed much of the art created.

KNOWLEDGE• New technologies can either create new ways to create art or inspire new

subjects and methods of creating art.
