After lots of

work, and a huge

amount of input,

we are happy to

announce the

launch of the

completely re-

vamped Med-O-

Lark Website.

What you see

here is just a

small taste of the

wonders that

await you online,

where our new

website comes

complete with

improved naviga-

tion bars, more

easily accessible

information, and

even access to the

camp video

online.

While there are still a few pieces being finalized,

you can check out the new webpage right now,

at the same home you have come to love,

www.medolark.com. You can even submit your

news to iMAGINE online! We look forward to

hearing from you!

tion at school. Or maybe you

performed in a school play or

Musical. Maybe you even

have formed your own band,

or joined a dance company.

Whatever it is, we want to

know so we can spread the

good news among the mem-

We want to hear from YOU!

What have you been doing?

Where have you traveled?

Did you get together with

other Med-O-Larkers some-

where?

Maybe you have a piece that

was featured in an art exhibi-

bers of the Med-O-Lark

Community!

But how do I do this, you

ask? It’s easy!

Just email Jody at

[email protected] with

your news!

YOU can be in next month’s iMAGINE...

Med-O-Lark Around the World!!! - Sweden

We’re always looking

for your news!

Shown here (L to R) are counselors Hollie Groome, Anna Fore-

man, Johanna Danielson, and Lyndsey Reed.

If you are heading someplace in the near future and would

like to have the MOL banner travel with you, just drop an

email to Jody at [email protected] and next month, the

picture above could be of YOU!

While over the last month

Med-O-Larkers around the

United States gathered for

reunions, several of our

staff members gathered for

a European Reunion on the

other side of the pond.

For this occasion, our Med-

O-Lark banner made its

way to the (well-frozen)

Scandinavian country of

Sweden, home of our own

Johanna Danielson!

Did you know that as a result of the

medieval right called the Allemansrätten, all

Swedes have the right to camp, ski, and

boat on any land in the country without

permission so long as they do not to damage

to crops, fences, or land? In other words,

all of nature is open to everyone!

During March, dozens of Med-O-Larkers gathered

at reunions in Chicago, New York City, and Boston

to share in food, memories, and slide shows of pic-

tures from last summer’s sessions. If you were not

able to make a reunion this year, make sure you

clear some time next year to attend, they’re a

BLAST! Check out the picture on page 7!

Holly Groome, Lyndsey Reed, Johanna Danielson,

and Anna Foreman gathered for their own reunion

in Sweden. Check out the pictures on page 2! And

I thought it was cold here!

A Little Birdie Told Me...

After finishing a wonderful fall Field Hockey sea-

son, Victoria Dey will be playing Lacrosse this

spring with Chloe Arnow. Victoria and Chloe also

recently sang at her best friend’s Bat-mitzvah, in-

cluding a spirited rendition of the Med-O-Lark ver-

sion of Lean On Me!

Congratulations go out to Judith Lanza, on her

early-admission acceptance to the Creative Writing

Department at Ithaca College. Way to go Judith!

Congratulations also go out to Rebecca Saltzman who has started her own business! Check out "Becca's

Bags and Beads" online at http://www.beccasbagsandbeads.com.

I am also happy to report that Northwestern’s GS-2 Curling Team, including yours truly, performed respec-

tively with a 2-1 record at the US College National Championships.

And if you haven’t yet checked out

www.harryalper.com, do it already! Harry

Alper is building his own wooden kayak,

which has progressed rapidly from random

boards (shown below) to something that is ac-

tually beginning to resemble a boat! Good

luck Harry, we look forward to seeing the fin-

ish project this summer!

A Camper’s Perspective

Dear Med-o-Lark, Thank

you for one of the best

summer experiences of my

life! I was so worried be-

fore I came to camp, that I

wouldn't meet anybody,

or that I would be home-

sick, or that I wouldn't be

able to stand living with

17 other girls in one cabin.

However, the second I got

there, I felt the friendly

and warm atmosphere of

camp and knew that I was

going to have a blast there.

Once I found my cabin,

Cabin 6, all the girls wel-

comed me with hugs and

laughter. There was no-

body there to judge you or

put a name on you. Every

camper was there for the

same reason, to have an

awesome summer! I im-

mediately made a TON of

the best friends I could've

asked for. Our cabin did

everything with each other

and we NEVER had any

was honestly one of the

greatest experiences of

my life. Every day, back

at home in Norwell,

Mass, I keep in touch

with my camp friends. In

fact, I spent Martin Lu-

ther King weekend in

Somerville, Mass with 6

other girls from camp.

Four girls from Massa-

chusetts, one from New

Jersey, and one from

New York. We had such

a great time reliving the

beautiful moments from

camp that we are already

planning on getting to-

gether again over April

vacation. We've also all

signed up for camp again

during the same session

in '07. Thanks again to

everyone who made my

summer special. Can't

wait to come back this

summer!

-Aria T. Benzaquin

conflicts with the other girls. Also, I was so lucky to get the best CITs

and counselors. My counselors, Chris (the drama teacher) and Sarah

(the ropes and adventure courses teacher), acted like a couple of moth-

ers to all the Cabin 6 girls. And since I'm so close to my own mom at

home, it was really important to me to be able to trust and rely on my

counselors to be there for me. My CITs, Michelle, Alison (aka Tego),

and Olivia, were really like the sisters I never had! They were crazy and

fun but also loving and caring when I needed them to be. Med-o-Lark

Show here are, from top left: Aria Benzaquin, Rae Axner,

We received the following letter from Aria Benzaquin recently, and were so touched by what she had to say about camp

that we wanted to share it with the Med-O-Lark Community. It is reprinted here with her permission.

You should have recently received a

set of camper forms in the mail over

the last week.

Included in the packet were the

camper agreement, health form, trans-

portation form, and permission form,

as well as a copy of the parent hand-

book. If you are, by chance, missing

any forms, please let us know and

we’ll mail them out right away!

Please take a few minutes to review

the information, and send the forms

back to the camp office as soon as pos-

sible. We need to have all forms for

enrolled campers in hand by June 1st

at the latest. So please take this as a

friendly reminder to drop the forms in

the mail!

We need your forms!

So as you all now know, Med-O-Lark is turning 40 next summer!!! Dedicated to bringing you new and excit-

ing programs every summer, in honor of this major milestone in the camp’s history, we have decided to im-

plement a major new program in the summer of 2007. For the last few months we’ve been gathering input

from campers, and after some heated voting, WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE A WINNER!!!

Only 80 days until First Session…

Only 108 days until Second Session...

Developed under the expert direction of renowned artist Karen Cohen, the

Enamels Studio at Med-O-Lark has been available for the past 4 summers and

this summer might be the best yet! Enameling, the art of glass fused to metal at

high temperatures - is a HOT Studio where classes are set up according to the

main techniques we teach:

* Cloisonné - bending thin silver wire defines your design and then enamel is

packed into the resulting cells. Each piece is fired 8-12 times and the camper

will be able to finish a pendant or jewel to set in the metals Studio. This is one

of most special pieces you'll make at camp as Cloisonné is an ancient art form

where pieces can last a thousand years!.

* Copper Enameling - we start with a copper shape and take it from there with a

wide variety of techniques such as sifting, scrolling, gold leaf, raku and more.

We make all kinds of jewelry or your piece can be set on a box or wall piece, or

Focus on an Activity: Enameling

you can make small dishes. Pieces can also be set in the metals studio for an extra

fine creation.

* Copper Etching - we plan on again offering this class where you define a design

and put it in an acid bath to remove some of the metal. Then the spaces are filled

with enamel in multiple firings. Results can be jewelry, put on boxes or a wall piece

- anything you can imagine.

We also plan to have a coordinated enamel and metals activity this summer - con-

tinuing the great job that was done last year. Even if you'd had enamels before,

there is a lot more to learn and a lot of fun to be had. So plan on taking enamels this

summer and you'll WOW your friends with what you've created! An example of an enameling-metal

jewelry collaboration.
