Message from your Pastor

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven

Give us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen

We pray this prayer every Sunday. Most of us know it by heart but do we know what we are

praying? This Lord’s Prayer is a confession of our relationship with God. Let’s look at the petitions

one at a time.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. We confess that our Father is holy. As his

children we too must be holy. If we teach or preach in God’s name anything that is not true, God’s

name is dishonored. As his children we come back to him with a contrite heart. He will never

disappoint us. We receive forgive of sins for the sake of his Son, Jesus the Christ.

Thy kingdom come. The kingdom comes to us when we receive his Holy Spirit. The kingdom

comes to us in two ways; 1) the kingdom comes in time when Jesus was born and 2) in eternity

when Jesus comes back again.

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. The good will of the Father comes and nothing can

prevail against it. Because we pray for God’s will to be done, we must expect suffering, attacks and

insults in the name of Jesus.

Give us this day our daily bread. We are to be thankful to God for his daily bread; everything that

is needed to satisfy our body; food, clothing, the fields and harvests of which food is produced.

Everything is included such as good government, family and friends; honoring each other and the

list goes on. Daily bread is all encompassing so our world doesn’t fall into chaos. This is daily

bread. Satan doesn’t want us to eat our bread in peace. He wants to create chaos in our lives; to take

away our gratefulness from God.

And forgive us our trespasses as we .forgive those who trespass against us. Because God

forgives our sins, we are free to forgive others.

And lead us not into temptation. God does not tempt us to sin. (Corinthians 10:13). God guards us

from all sorts of evil so we do not despair which leads to unbelief.

But deliver us from evil. We pray that our Holy Father will deliver us from evil that affect our

body and soul. The devil is a liar and murderer and he only wants to harm us. There is a spiritual

warfare for our souls.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. The doxology was added

later by the early church fathers after the birth of Christianity.

The Lord’s Prayer is confessing that God is holy and as his children we too are holy. We confess

that we must fully rely on God. Martin Luther is the main source of understanding the meaning of

the Lord’s Prayer.

The next time you pray the Lord’s Prayer, stop and think what you are confessing.

Blessings, Pastor Marcia ╬

M A I L B O X T H A N K YOU’S

Dear Partners in Faith,

We are thrilled to announce two scholarship opportunities available to students of your church, and invite you to share this news through your church bulletins, newsletters and other communications to members. Applications are available online until April 30.

InFaith Community Foundation Scholarship – Two $5,000 scholarships The InFaith Community Foundation Scholarship was established in 2013 to benefit students who are members of churches that have an active church endowment fund at InFaith Community Foundation. Applicants must be high school graduating seniors seeking a four-year undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university. Through this scholarship award, we hope to provide educational opportunities to an individual who demonstrates financial need, high academic achievement, and a commitment to sharing their blessings with the world. This scholarship program is made possible through an InFaith Field of Interest Fund, a collaborative fund made possible by InFaith donors to serve our shared community.

WomenLead Scholarship - Two $3,000 scholarships WomenLead recognizes the need for diverse leadership in ministry, nonprofits and civic organizations, and seeks to accelerate the extraordinary leadership of women to lead change using their talents to educate, advocate, and activate. The WomenLead Scholarship was established in 2017. Two educational scholarships in the amount of $3,000 will be awarded to women of Christian faith seeking a Masters or Doctoral level degree that will prepare them to serve in public service, non-profit leadership and/or in Christian ministry. Women of diverse backgrounds (race/ethnicity, age, faith) eager to lead through bold action, innovative vision and faith-inspired passion are encouraged to apply.

Please share these opportunities with your congregation! I’ve attached the full scholarship announcements for more information. Visit our website to learn more - https://www.infaithfound.org/newsgrants/scholarships.

Applications are due on April 30, 2019. If you have any questions about the scholarships or the application process please contact Nikki Johnson, Donor Services Associate, at (800) 365-4172, or [email protected].

NOTE for applying students: In the prequalifying questions section of our application, students should select YES in the last question, that they are a member of a congregation that holds an endowment with InFaith.

Warm regards, Kim

Hi Ascension members, I want to let you know that I am doing well.

While I do appreciate all your prayers, you can take me off the prayer list. I am sure that others are in need of prayer. I want to thank all of you

for your consistent love and concern. Also, after having gone through cancer treatment for the second time in five years, I've decided to

move back to Alabama where all my children and grandchildren live. I thought I would stay here

until retirement but that may not give me enough time with the kiddos. I look forward to watching Kaden march with his high school band

(he plays the saxophone) and Kaely march in parades while she twirls her baton. This will also

give me time to reconnect with the boys in Florida. And my other granddaughters who are

all young ladies now. Thank you all for allowing me to be part of the

Ascension Family.

Blessings, Kathy Paquette

A Sunday School teacher asked

her class why Joseph and Mary

took Jesus with them to Jerusalem.

A small child replied: “They

couldn’t get a baby sitter.” ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

A Sunday School teacher was

discussing the Ten

Commandments with her five and

six year old. After explaining the

commandment to “honor thy

father and thy mother,” she asked

“Is there a commandment that

teaches us how to treat our

brothers and sisters?” Without

missing a beat one little boy

answered, “Thou shall not kill.” ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

At Sunday School they were

teaching how God created

everything, including human

beings. Little Johnny seemed

especially intent when they told

him how Eve was created out of

one of Adam’s ribs. Later in the

week his mother noticed him lying

down as though he were ill, and

said, “Johnny what is the matter?”

Little Johnny responded, “I have a

pain in my side. I think I’m going to

have a wife.” ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

of their business cards with the cemetery committee. If anyone is

interested, they are on the shelf as you go out of church.
