Revision of syllabi is in process. Discussions were initiated March 2014, University level
workshop was conducted at Institute. Revised Credit & Choice based curriculum will be
introduced by w.e.f. June- 2015. More internal options and across specialization/ elective
choice, flexibility in field practicum / field work, introduction of new courses and modules and
evaluation system. Our institute has taken a lead in MSW Curriculum Revision at University
Level. Our Director, Faculty, Vising faculty & Alumni are making consisting efforts to revise
curriculum.
In the Golden Jubilee Year, Karve Institute and CSR Pune - has launched PGD-CSR -Post Graduate
Diploma in Corporate Social Responsibility course to promote CSR Excellence for sustainable
development and edify Corporates, Non- Government, Civil Society and Local Self Government
Organizations on CSR dimensions’. PGD-CSR—is and autonomous one year PG Diploma course is
introduced for NGO’s, corporates professionals, volunteers and for BSW & MSW qualified. The
institute has designed CSR course after inputs from thought leaders in the industry and social sector.
In launching year itself this programme received phenomenal response with 35 admissions. The
course was conducted by the experts and professionals in the field with high commitment, quality
standards with participatory learning approach.

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes:
IQAC facilitates academic planning, monitoring and execution, organizing seminars,
workshops, and improvisation in evaluation systems thereby contribute teaching-
learning process. We have a system of semester wise written feedback from students,
which is calculated & compiled by third party. The feedback results are given by
Director to the respective faculty in writing as well as discussion on areas to be
improved. Along with this every faculty submit their API form to the Director. On this
IQAC Coordinator and Director discussed and give feedback. Suggestions given by
Quality Advisory Committee, Visiting Faculty, Alumni, Student, Internal & External
experts on viva panel are shared, discussed in QAC, IQAC and faculty meeting.

IQAC facilitates in identifying core domain and prospective areas of research. All the Expression of
Interest (EOI), request and proposals for research, training or consultancy projects are circulated
among the faculty. Research Cell apprise faculty members in advance on applications to be made for
major & minor research, sponsoring and funding agency, and facilitates faculty to undertake projects
as per their expertise and interest area. All technical and administrative support is offered in
developing and executing the proposal. Each and every faculty members are associated with some or

3.26 Major Activities during the year in the sphere of extension activities and Institutional Social
Responsibility
NSS Special Camp- Micro Planning of Village ‘Parinche’ Taluka Purandar
NSS, Street Plays in the community on creating awareness on Black magic Practices, Girl
child issue.
Registration of New young voters from colleges.
Awareness about HIV related issue- through street play and awareness programmes.
FCC- Outreach Activity of FCC : Following outreach activities were undertaken by FCC.
During the last year FCC tried to reach the grassroots as well as middle class of the society by
displaying the information about FCC in the public places such as Hospitals, Schools, Police
station, Ladies Shoppe, Grocery shops, Senior Citizen Group, Self Help Group, Men’s
Parlour and Salons, and through school bus drivers who frequently interact with common
people.
Pre-marriage Education Programme (PME):This year Four PME Programmes were conducted at:
Siddhivinayak College, Karvenagar, Pune.
Mamasaheb Mohol Vidyalaya, Paud Road, Pune.
Vadhuvar Melava, Malee Samaj Vivah Sanstha, Pune.
Jankidevi Bajaj Trust, Kumbregaon, Maval, Pune.
Legal Awareness Programme: A total of four Legal Awareness Programmmes were conducted in
Kamana Vasahat, Gosavi Vasti, Laxminagar Vasahat Community, Mahila Aarthik Vikas
Mahamandal, Pune.
Apart from these the following Awareness Programme were undertaken by FCC :
Programme for Adolescent Girls in St. Crispin’s Homes orphanage.
Programme for College going girls in Siddhivinayak College Karvenagar.
Domestic Violence and Women Empowerment.
Awareness programme for Women in Shramik Vasahat, Karvenagar, Pune
Awareness programme for Adolescent Girls in Nanegaon, Maval, Pune
Awareness programme for Women in Gosavi Vasti, Karvenagar, Pune.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day FCC, in collaboration with Karvenagar
Community Centre, organized an interactive session with the adolescent girls in nearby
communities. The focus was ‘increasing incidences of sexual abuse at community level’.
ICDS workers helped in the coordination task.
Family Life Education Programme: Three family life education programmes were undertaken by
FCC awareness programme for adolescent girls and boys at Hinjewadi in collaboration with URMEE
Institute Pune.

At the beginning of the academic year students are given detail orientation about educational
programme, scholarships, prizes and awards, government scholarships, facilities such as

The Institute has made some efforts of consultation and guidance for NET/SET/ MPSC
competitive examinations. Institute has kept track of issue of student’s transcripts who
pursue higher education in the country, abroad and professional courses.
Faculty Individual Mentors/ Guidance, professional counsellor and on call counselling
services mechanism has been a great support to students who were in need of guidance
during their personal and academic issues and stressful situations. Career guidance,
preparation of CV’s and interviews discussions and sessions were found to be effective.
Year 2010 onwards, we initiated basic attitude test regarding class, caste, gender & regional
sensitivity at the beginning of 1st year. Following to it two workshops are conducted to create
sensitivity among the students based on sexuality and gender. Along with this each
department make efforts to give inputs on gender sensitivity in relation to their field
requirements. Workshop on Prevention of Sexual harassment and sensitization was also
arranged for faculty and staff.

principals to promote autonomy in affiliated colleges.
Alumni Association helped in Golden jubilee year

programmes. Parents participated in the Institute Day programme
on 8th January 2014.
Capacity building and staff development programmes are

neutrality, waste management, manure and wormy-culture, drip

7. Innovations and Best Practices
7.1 Innovations introduced during this academic year which have created a positive impact on the

1. NGO Resource Centre and Students Development Programme by TechM
Foundation : As a social work college, we are in networking with various NGOs
working on different social issues and with different marginalized groups. During our
last few years association, it was communicated as well as realized that various small
NGOs requires skills support to effective and efficient governance and management
of their staff as well as capacity development of their field workers. Karve Institute of
Social Service in collaboration with Tech Mahindra Foundation started NGO
Research Centre on 12th August 2013 with aim of capacity strengthening efforts for
NGOs working for social development in Pune city. Above 80 to 100 organizations
registered with this NGO centre. Our project partner is Tech Mahindra Foundation, a
corporate promoted organization with development vision.
Objectives of NGO Resource Centre
To identify the training needs of the NGO’s and social work practitioners working in
different sectors and accordingly design the demand responsive short courses for the
practitioners.
To design and develop the training module for the NGO’s professional and Para
Professional team
To conduct a series of training programs as per the identified training needs
To provide a platform for the NGO’s to interact, share, analyse their experiences in
the field
To design and conduct various short term courses which cater to the needs of NGO’s
Networking and resource mobilization events
To develop a support resource centre where relevant data base will be made available
to NGO’s to refer for planning strategies
Policy analysis and national, state local level budget analysis documents would be
made available for advocacy for the rights of marginalized groups
To provide research support for enhancing projects and schemes of NGO’s
Provide consultation for young professionals who wish to develop innovative projects in the

NGO Resource Centre has conducted Training Need Assessment of NGO’s and based on the
generated needs conducted 5 workshops and 2 networking events. (Annexure No . 2.

Resource Center also generating systematic database of organizations, working with
different sectors e.g. Health, women and children issues, community based. According to
feedback received from organizations NGO Resource Center is developing its database

Tech Mahindra Scholarship Programme for MSW students 2013-2014
Financial Assistance Programme
In August 2013, NGO Resource Center and Student Development Programme of Karve
Institute of Social Service supported by Tech Mahindra Foundation was launched.
Students from economically weaker section and those who could not bear tuition fees,
hostel charges and mess charges generally found this as a major obstructions to course
completion. Tech. Mahindra has decided to support this cause and offer financial help to
these needy students. Tech Mahindra Foundation substantially contributed a corpus.

Students who received TechM scholarship found great support to their career, could
complete their course and they scored good marks in the exam.
Twenty-three students received scholarship for Research and Education, in which 12
students received Rs. 10000/- each for educational assistance. Four 2nd
year students
received Rs.5000/- each scholarship to complete Research Project Report. Seven, 2nd
year
students received Rs.15000/- each scholarship for educational assistance as well as

Computer Lab
Under student development programme Tech Mahindra Foundation has generously
extended financial support for Computer Lab. Purpose of this computer lab was to
develop the computer skills & competencies among the social work students, to facilitate
them in their research and enhancing academic performance. Computer lab is an
excellent resource with highly advanced systems - 12 computers, equipped with free Wi-
Fi internet access facility for students. As this lab has been developed in the Library, it is
open for all students.
Students are finding computer lab useful for their academics, research and class room
assignments. In feedback 66.78% students have stated that this has been a great academic
support, could get sufficient time to access computer and internet and contributed
extremely in their performance enhancement.
Achievement: In January to February 2014 institute has got rank one in all over
India the N-LIST journal usage (best user library, maximum number of students
referring E-Journal, website due to computer lab and internet facilities)
Contributes to National Development through dissemination of specialized knowledge
and skills. : NSS volunteers organizing and participating actively in NSS scheme is
significant contribution as social work college and for national development. Last few
years institute has continued its practice of organizing special rural camp in collaboration
with any NGO working with marginalized group in the interior area Pune district.
This year, we collaborated with YASHADA for preparing macro-plan of village
‘Parinche’ through PRA technique and macro-planning method with the help of people. A
detail plan was prepared and submitted to YASHADA and village Panchayat. This has
been a significant contribution to National and sustainable social development, particularly
in the process of rural development.
NSS ACTIVITIES
This year the Institute received sanction for one unit of 100 students for the NSS Unit.
Sixty three students from first year and 37 students from second year, (from Urban and
Rural Community Development and Family and Child Welfare elective groups)
volunteered for NSS.
Regular activities of NSS
This year the NSS unit inauguration was launched with active participation in
demonstration, rally organized by various colleges and organization to pay reverence to
contribution to ‘Anddhashraddah Nirmulan Campaign’ and protest against assassination of

Dr. Narendra Dabholkar, Social Activist who was also fighting for a law on banning the
black magic practices. The whole unit also decided to offer tribute to Dr. Dabholdar and
planning program for creating awareness among various groups in the communities on black
magic practices, during the entire semester. These programmes were planned with innovative ideas,
street play and songs.
NSS Rural (Special) Camp
Objectives
1) To give an exposure to social work students about village issues and rural living
2) To build a commitment amongst future professionals for rural development and national
development
3) To gain an understanding about practical applications of participatory micro planning and
women’s empowerment
The NSS camp was carried out in two parts, at Village ‘Parinche’ Taluka Purndar.
1st Part : 3

th December 2013 : Training in Micro Planning & PRA
The activities carried out included.
1. Regular ‘Prarthana’ and Yoga each morning.
2. Participatory village mapping: Infrastructure facilities and amenities and settlement
layout.
3. Resource mapping though transect walk covering all directions around the village to
assess: Cropping pattern; Soil types, texture and conditions, irrigation, wells, labour
conditions, natural vegetation, agro-based activities.
4. Village meetings with specific groups i.e. key persons, Youth, Schools children’s (ZP
School, High School and Junior College students.
For the above activities the PRA and other techniques adopted were Focus Group
Discussions, Tana Bana (Exercise to show linkages between people and Government
schemes and services), Information based lectures and discussion, Essay competition,
Drawing competition, Photographic display with discussion, Stories Films (village
development, Gram Sevak and Panchayati Raj, etc.), Menstrual Apron and Flip Charts and
Posters.
5. Village Contacts i.e. Mashal Pheri (Torch Walk), Informal Corner/Katta meetings with
youth, young girls and senior citizens, Social Awareness Programmes through cultural
activities, Social songs on superstition, women’s issues, importance of education, etc.
Four street plays were performed in the village/vasti’s and during the weekly Bazaar on
the followings themes :

6. Blood Donation camp in collaboration with Akshay Blood Bank, Hadapsar
Overall camp objectives were largely met. The participation of women was particularly
significant. Students created a very positive impression as reflected in the feedback from
villagers. The camp was coordinated by Ms Nagmani Rao with able field support from
faculty members Dr. Devanand Shinde, Dr. Chitra Rajuskar, Ms Neha Sathe, Library
Staff – Mr. Mangesh Talmale, Mr. Ravi Dhadwad, Mr. Prakash pawar, Administrative
staff – Mr. Satish Khude, Mr. Arun Wasankar and the Support staff – Mr. Balu Jadhav,
Mr. Vijaykumar Kumbhar who along with camp coordinator were with the students for
the entire duration of the camp. The Institute specially records its gratitude to Mr. Raju
Inamdar, Panchayat members and volunteers from Parchinche and the staff and master
trainers from YASHADA for their valuable inputs. We also thank MP Subsidized
Enterprises for providing us transport service.

Curricular Aspects:
Change in MSW curriculum structure: Institute is continuously reviewing the
course structure and initiate necessary changes to suit the needs of MSW
Programme, M.Phil and PhD programme.
Curriculum Development Workshops: Curriculum Development Workshop
were planned and continue to take lead in reviewing and restructuring the new
academic, training, field work, research, extension activities modules of new
syllabi. It is primarily to develop syllabi which are under constant review for
relevance and which provide a career ladder from one academic level to the next.
It is mainly with aim of making the course into credit system form as expected by
UGC for all graduate and post graduate Institute to offer more flexibility and
relevance.
Organizing agency supervisor meet: As NGOs are our main support system in
imparting field based training to ours MSW students. The institute has plan to
continue to organize a 2 -3 half days workshop with agency supervisors to take
their suggestions in working out field work task and certain changes to make the
field work more effective in relation to developing competent professional cadres.
Organize Workshop to develop standardization and uniformity in grading/marking
system for internal assignment, field work, research and term marks.
Organize one or two day workshop for faculty and administrative staff to design a
long term future plan and to revisit vision & mission for institute development
with the help of experts.
Each department will take review of their previous four years programmes in the
context of RAR plan and to develop an action plan for future.
