Daily Life

Men were the head of the family. They worked in jobs as warriors, craft workers, and farmers. Women were always in the house doing house work like cooking, cleaning, and educating children. Boys went to school. Girls learned cooking, cleaning, weaving, and child care. The Greeks held Olympic games every year to honor the god and goddesses. The first five Olympic sports were boxing, long jump, javelin, chariot races, and up right wrestling.

Government

The government of ancient Greece was known as a city-state. Greece is known for its development of a democracy, which is the form of government that we use in the United States.

A famous building in ancient Greece is the Parthenon. Another famous building is the Acropolis. Greece is known for the three columns called Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian.

Greece is located on the continent of Europe. The capital city of Greece is Athens . The three major bodies of water are the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea, and the Black Sea.

The ancient Greeks believed in gods and goddesses. Zeus was king of the gods and goddesses. The mountain where the gods and goddesses lived was called Mt. Olympus.
