I’m excited for the next sermon series called “Advent”. Each week we will address the motif
of the advent season along with pairing that motif with a character from the story:
November 26 Hope Zechariah and Elizabeth
December 3 Love Joseph
December 10 Peace Herod
December 17 Joy Mary
December 24 Jesus Jesus
While you might be an Advent Scholar and realize our themes are slightly different, December
3 we will have Brian Daniell preaching as I will be on vacation. He specifically asked to
preach on Joseph, and the theme of love was perfect!

SUNDAY Hello Church Family! What a joy it is to share that we are needing more 9:15 nursery helpers! We are needing at least two volunteers to serve during this time slot. We would like to set up a once a month rotation. It's a true blessing to serve our little ones and share God's love with them, so their parents can grow in their faith and fellowship with other believers. I would like to have a picture of my face during the 9am service when Scott Morgan and Marlys Freese interrupted the service to present Godly words of encouragement in October. Then I got to see my face through my wife during the 10:30 service when they called her up as well! We were absolutely shocked in the best way possible. So many amazing notes, and a wonderful blessing that we are very grateful to the generosity of you. We are privileged as a family and I am privileged to be pastor at Hope Community Church. What a joy to be present at “such a time as this” and I believe that God has brought us here for so many amazing moments. I want to sincerely thank you for your gifts, words, and presence in our lives. We are grateful and feel very loved.

Due to candidating for Director of Discipleship we will NOT have Theology and Dessert in January.
Thanks for all who have volunteered for the Toyland for Tots on December 9! Hope’s vision is to
connect with our community and no better way than to serve those at such an event like this!
I’m excited to invest in a Director of Discipleship and have begun interviewing potential candidates. I
wanted to include in this Anchor who are looking for and to inform the congregation that candidates
potentially could be visiting Hope in the coming weeks!
We have had an enormous amount of applicants which have kept me very busy over the past 3
weeks. We are still accepting applicants. At this point, we have had over 60 applications from a wide
array of backgrounds from all over the globe and Phd’s to recent grads from local colleges! As we
narrow down potential fits, please be in prayer for the Lord’s direction. We want to move quickly but
wisely. Many thanks to Julie Wondercheck and Breanna Peterson for their great leadership in the

Director of Discipleship Scott Martin
Hope Community Church exists to bring people into a closer relationship with Jesus.
Position:
The Director of Discipleship’s role is to holistically analyze our discipleship paths to see where individuals and groups are in bringing people into a closer relationship with Jesus. They must be a dynamic leader who is passionate about discipleship. Based on experience and education consideration for title will occur. Either way, this person must have:
Character: Know what the right thing to do Biblically in a given situation
Charisma: Bring energy and enthusiasm to Hope and be a passionate follower of Jesus Christ
Competency: Have experience in leading individuals, discipleship groups (3-4 people) and large groups (30-40). They must have an idea of curriculum and curriculum development.
Chemistry: This person must get along with people from all age ranges, specifically children and youth. In terms of Gallup Strengths, they need a dash of “Woo” to be successful. They must have a sense of humor, and potentially be making fun of a job listing with so many C words in the requirements.
Calling: This trumps all other C’s as this person needs to be in their relationship with God knowing that God is calling them to such a position as this.
This person must have an ability to multi-task, dream big, and enjoy coming to work. They would be working Sundays with various discipleship opportunities at church. They would be encouraged to choose a service to worship in as possible (currently Hope has two Sunday services). In walking alongside this person if preaching is an option that they would like to pursue, limited opportunities could present in year 2 of this position. However, the focus is on discipleship.

Hope has again shown it’s generosity by blessing numerous children of Haiti with Christmas
gifts in the month of November! We are supporting 30 children by giving various school and
other items for them to enjoy many miles away from Lincoln. Thank you Hope!
