-Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji

The Supreme Command Those who perform Sa'dhana' twice a day regularly, the thought of Paramapurusa' will certainly arise in their minds at the time of death, their liberation is a sure guarantee - therefore every A'nanda Ma'rgii will have to perform Sa'dhana' twice a day invariably - verily is this the command of the Lord. Without Varna and Niyama, Sa'dhana' is an impossibility; hence the Lord's command is also to follow Yam a and Niyama. Disobedience to this command is nothing but to throw oneself into the tortures of animal life for crores of years. That no one should undergo torments such as these, that everyone might be enabled to enjoy the eternal blessedness under the loving shelter of the Lord, it is the bounden-duty of every A'nanda Ma'rgii to endeavor to bring all to the path of bliss. Verily is this a part and parcel of Sa'dhana', to lead others along the path of righteousness.

Baba on a wheeled chair justa! er arrival in his quarltr un 2nd August

BABAS LATEST MESSAGE

Shortly after coming out of jail, Ba'ba' said that He has pardoned all of the defectors of Ananda Marga except five. These five He named as Madhavananda, vishokananda, Vma Datta (He said, "Don't say Vma Sarkar"), and two other Indian Avadhutas (who have never been outside of India). All others have been pardoned and may attend Dharmacakra, Ananda Marga functions, DMC, etc., though they won't be given any organizational responsibility. He then said that when we meet any defector we should not taunt them or be arrogant. Rather we should be very humble and polite, do Namaskar to them, and say, "It is only by your krpa (grace) that we are victorious today."

He then said that every Margii has three important duties, and that we should all keep them in mind. He gave them in order of their priority:

(1) To free all the Ananda Marga workers still in jail.

(2) To start permanent social service projects dedicated to the memory of the seven great Acaryas who have self-immolated.

(3) Inspire others to the path of Dharma.

(NOte: all of the above is a paraphrase rather than an exact quotation of Ba'ba's words).

BJtBA'S DARSHAN

over 5 years, and His body was weak, though radiant. He gave loving care to his family members and devotees who had assembled from many places to welcome Him. And the morning after leaving jail He gave the first general darshan (which actually became a Maha Cakra) in

the grounds of the large hall in Patna. Most of the darshan, like subsequent

general darshans (which were delivered at a newly acquired jagrti in Patliputra Colony) were given in Hindi. Often Baba would give the essence of the darshan in English, stating the important ideas clearly either at the beginning or in the middle of His talk. Most of these first general darshans were taped, and are being translated by Ac. Santosanandaji (in Phulwarisharif Jail). Hopefully the complete darshans from

-the period will be published in English shortly.

The following recollections have been pieced together from hastily written notes, and from discussions with various Dada's. They are very fragmentary, (and quite possibly distorted), but may serve to give some indication of what Baba was saying during this period.

On the morning of the 5th August,

Shrii Shrii At/Gilda Murtiji on the dais addressing hi,. devotees Baba said that the cub of a lion grows into a lion and not a jackal. Even if a lion is just sitting, the mice get

Jayanta Kumara. who recently returned from India to Australia, relates some of his experiences with our Beloved Guru, since His release from jail. (From Sydney Sectorial Newsletter)

For the first two weeks after Baba came out of jail, I was graced to be in Patna to enjoy many of the Lord's bliss ful darshans. Recalled here are some of the invaluable lessons and quidance Baba gave during this period.

From the very moment Baba came out of jail, He commenced His work, despite the fact that He had been fasting for

2

frightened of him. Lord explained that we are lions, and should not fear any

body. We must move forward. Humanity expects much more from us, and is waiting for out better efforts. Then Baba said: "You know I am also with you".

He explained that there will be difficulties, and moments of pain, but that final victory will be ours. Then He said:

"THE WORLV REQUIRES YOUR ASSISTANCE. YOU SHOULV BE REAVY TO VO ALL SORTS OF SERVICE TO HUMANITY. ANV YOU KNOW, I AM ALSO WITH YOU".

DFTS-041S2

: I.

That evening in His residence, Baba spoke about many things including His fast. He said that for four years and eight months He had been bed-ridden-He didn't put His feet on the ground, and then He said that's why He couldn't walk (Baba was carried out of jail and was moving in a wheel-chair). Then He said, "For Me it will take 5-6 days". Next He explained that the first three months of fasting were painful and very difficult. There was intense thirst and hunger, and Baba's intestines were churnihg. After this initial period, there was less difficulty. Baba said that his enemies wanted to kill Him though they tried their level best they failed. Baba said that His brain is very strong, and that His memory was good all alongeven now it is very clear. He said He can remember everything in detail for the last 57 years, even the drop of a pin.

On the evening of the 9th, Baba exlained that so-called spiritualism has an unholy pact with capitalism. Dharma is to fight the crude realities and practicalities of life- that which does not teach people how to deal with the crude practicalities of the world creates physical and psychic ailments in the human being and society. Before Baba gave His ideology the six spokes of bhati were absent (see The Great Universe pg. 94 "The Future of Civilization"). - there is an unholy alliance between spiritualism and capitalism. Dharma had a 'subsidiary' role to capitlism. As such there was not co-operative co-operation but subordinate cooperation. (Later Baba explained that in the West spiritualism is not the correct term to use, rather spirituality should be used - the former pertains to ghosts and the supernatural things, and the latter term pertains to that which is spiritual).

VURACARI & SU-VURACARI'S FUTURE OU the morning of the 10th, Baba

spoke about Duracari and Su-duracari.

Duracari is a person whose actions are harmful to society, and Su-duracari is a person whose actions are so bad that even Duracari hate them. If a bad person points out another person whose actions are even more detrimental to society than his/her own, this other-is Su-duracari. Baba asked: Is there nd fu ture for Duracari and Su-duracari? Then He said human beings after all, are part of the Supreme, so there is a future for them if they are always remembering the Suprme Entity.

THREE ESSENTIAL FACTORS FOR MENTAL PROGRESS

On the morning of the 11th, Baba spoke about three essential factors for mental progress.

1) Pariprashnena 2) Pranipatena 3) Seva

1) Pariprashnena is complete surrender, the mental attitude that what ever we get we get from Him. Those who think

that their intellect or wealth et c . is

their own are fools. The worst type of mental complex is intellectual vanity. The first thing required for mental progress is complete surrender. After that everything else comes.

2) Pranipatena means asking only those questions that help in furthering spiritual progress. All other questions are a waste of our time, and a Haste of time of the person being asked.

3) Seva means selfless service. If there is tual relationship then this is business not social service. Any commercial transaction involves getting something for the services rendered. Service means giving Bomething but not getting anything in return, and even if something is given, then not accepting it. Then Baba said we have taken birth for a limited period so our time in this world should not be used in superfluous activities. Baba said:

"SERVE THE UNIVERSE WITH THE SPIRIT OF SEVA - RENDER ALL SORTS OF SERVICE IN THE PHYSICAL, INTELLECTUAL AND SPIRITUAL REALMS."

Namaskar. After a long confinement of seven years in jail, I have cOllie out and taken up the charge of the Central Offica as General Secretary. At this 1II0lllentous hour I feel inrnanse pleasure to offer my heartiest love to you as well as all the brothers anti sisters of your sector. We all, in India, or abroad, have passed through a harroldng situation during this long figh, ting period. To all of us it was an ordeal - an acid test, By His infinite grace we have come out through all hazarda ldth the glory of historic victor y.

It is the victory of truth and Iharma. M.y long absence from the stream of the regular organisational work kept me in

ignorance about the latest changes and developments in our vast global structure. Many things are now new to mel but I am confident that His divine grace and your spontaneous co-operation will eRabla me to overcome any predicament or difficulty which may arise in discharging my official responsibilities and duties, At this phase of reconstruction what we need most is mutual co-ordination, brotherly love and untiring effort. All these will dafinl tely embed the Mission on a sound ideological foundation. I know that avery whole tu.e worker is an er£bodimont of missionary zeal and dynamism." We are to work hard; the Lord has told, "Co on doing work. go on • •• do your duties even while you are going to die." It is His spirit of divine a.nd robust optiJIiSl!l and dYna.!liS!ll. We are His children. We are to infuse this working spirit in us to fulfil His Mission.

The dark period of our organisation when the Lord had t suffer procrasted incarceration in a dull and desolate cell of Pat na , you all gallantly rose to the occasion, and proved yourselves as His worthy sons and daughters, braving all the tortares and tribulations of the emrgency days, Of course, India was the theatre of that battle, but you the brothers and sisters all over the world have tirelessly fought for our release; you have raised your voice for us , demaNied jusjice and mobilised world public opinion in our forUJII, No language can express my gratitude to you all for this great service. Be sure , when you have done something for the ParaJIa Purus' at He will also not allow you to go unrewarded from this world. His divine blessing will surely shower on you.

Since long seven years I could not meet many of you; there are many new workers, posted in regional levels in different sectors whoa I have not seen yet. Truly speaking when I go through their reports I feel an emotional urge to meet them all and talk with them. Defini tely a time will come in the future when the Lord will give that chance to all of us to be well acquainted with each other. Now I am counting days for the world R.D.S. (frail 22nd to th September) when at least some of you shall come and I shall enjoy your pious companionship again after a long period.

It is a lIIatter of great relief and dee? .?le(1.O'l.g that Baba ha.-: l.t ::.;: started taking normal food. He is gradually recovering His health. Now He is always in the sweet divine mood of Kalyan Sundaram, I am sure our working stamina coupled with old experience will enable us to carry on the work of the organisation ldthout giving Him llIuch pressure at His present state of weak health.

Please inform IIIe of your well being, I am sure you are all doing well in all respects by His Supreme Grace.

P. S.

I I convey my hearty thanks on behalf of all who were released for the telegramm from the

In Life BY SHRI1 SHRII ANANVAMURTIJl1

Man cannot propagate his ideology by his knowledge, intellect or social status. He can do it only through conduct. Conduct gets purified by intuitional practices. It does not necessarily mean that he should come from a so-called high family, or that he should have higher studies. Rather these factors may create false vanity in his mind which ultimately may stand in the wfay of reforming his conduct.

IN (HIS UNIVERSE OF OURS, TWO FORCES ARE WORKING SIDE BY SIDE- THE SENTIENT AND THE STATIC. SOMETIMES THE

SENTIENT PREVAILS, AND AT OTHER TIMES . THE STATIC DOMINATES. THERE IS NO SCOPE FOR PACT AMONG THESE FORCES.

Man will have to march ahead amidst the ceaseless struggle bf these opposite forces. In the society, we see on the one hand, the crowd of anti-social elements and on the other handp a sense of frustration among the Moralists. These Moralists have therefore grown a tendency to go out of the society.

(J)ITH MORE OF WEALTH AND STRENGTH, THE ANTI-SOCIAL ELEMENTS ARE IN THE ADVANTAGEOUS POSITION. THE MORALISTS APPEAR TO BE THE CULPRITS! THIS STATE OF AFFAIRS IS NEITHER VESIREABLE NOR BEHOVING.

This should not be allowed to stay long. Your duty will be to unite the moralists. Let there be two camps. Let there be an open fight. The united strength of five Moralists is much

more than the united strength of a

hundred immoralists because there is an unholy alliance among the latter. Meditation within closed doors will not suffice. Gather strength by intuitional practices and unite yourselves against the immoralists.

So your duty is Three Fold:

YOUR FIRST DUTY IS TO OBSERVE MORALITY AND TO DO INTUITIONAL PRACTICES.

Without this, you cannot have mental determination.

YOUR NEXT DUTY IS TO UNITE THE MORALISTS, OTHERWISE. VHARMA WILL NOT EMDURE.

The exploited mass will not be able to observe yama and niyama, the cardinal moral principles, if they will fight with a disgusted mood. It is therefore necessary to untie the moralists. This will be your real dharma. You Trill become great by this for the ideation of the great makes a man great.

AT THE THIRD STAGE, YOU HAVE TO MERCILESSLY FIGHT AGAINST ANY SIN WHENEVER IT HABITATEV THIS WORLD.

You will have to propagate this mission from door to door . Any polLtical party or so-called religious illFtitution cannot bring salvation. For this will not be able to bring the sinner to submission. Today the necessity of arms is more than the drums and cymbals if the onslaughts of the immoralists are "to be curbed.

It is not possible to tight against the sin so long as there is soue ,.;reakness in your mind.

IN THIS FIGHT, YOUR GOAL IS NOT THE SIN NOR THE SINNER. YOUR GOAL IS THE

SUPREME CONSCIOUSNESS AND ANYTHING THAT COMES ON THE WAY HAS TO BE REMOVED MERCILESSLY.

When cloud collects around the polestar and covers it, it is your duty to

SECTORIAL OFFICE NEWS

8

The sectorial office is now shaping up nicely with some new energy and clarity of direction. Recently all S.O. workers were very vibrated and inspired by the return of brother Vinay (acting sectorial finance sec.) after his tour of the Eastern part of our sector. Vi nayji r eally learned a lot from his tour. and found all the Margiis inspiring and dedicated. His enthusiasm was infectious 9 and plans now are to have as manySO workers tour the sector as possible. We want to maximize connnunications with all of you!

The Dharma Pracar Dept. is undergoing some changes with brother Dhruva leaving to go to the next LFT session (about

DFTS-04158

I I I ,It

which we've been getting enthusiastic reports). Taking over as Acting DP Sec. will be brother Pranatos'a, who currently is working in finance. One of the new LFTs will come here to work as DP II and Sister Ann is still here coordinating MIT. With an additional worker, the DP dept. will be able to move forward greatly, In the near future, you should be seeing a lot of new DP materials and programs • .

The Relief Dept. is still in need of a new secretary to replace brother Cintamaniiji, who has to leave in January. Cintamaniiji has been working on raising funds for the Guatemalan Children's Home and is drawing up a programme to revitalize the service aspect of our mission in NY Sector. Soon we will be seeing new programs for starting more permanent projects, AMliRT teams, etc.

Crimson Dawn is improving in circulation slowly, It is presently losing money as recent issues have been over 2 Oz., which doubles the postage cost, and greatly adds to printing costs. A

top priority is to create a better flow of information throughout the Sector, so that all the exciting developments around the sector- 1astar Unit, the medical clinics, pracar, etc. can be fully reported. Please send any and all news of events in your area to us so that we can let everyone know about it.

Brother Chandra Shekar in the legal dept. is working diligently to clarify the legal status of all units, regions, projects, etc. and to make sure that all have proper bylaws; etc. He recently completed his bar exams (results not in yet).

The acting Sectorial Educations Sec. is now Sister Gandhara Deviji, who is in San Antonio, Texas. Brother Ambhujaks'a is now working full time at Golden Lotus.

The Finance Dept. has managed to straighten out our books, pay off all the SO debts, and reduce the number of our accounts at the bank. They were able to issue a complete financial statement

foc all departments for August, and will do so monthly from now on. Vinayji is working on standardizing a finance system for all departments, regions, units and projects, and on developing a training program so that all of us can keep proper and consistent records.

The print shop is moving along nicely with sister Satya Devi and brother Surya Deva running the press and upgrading the equipment. Another worker is expected in January at which time the press will move out of SO and be established as a business.

Publications now has two workers, brother Satya Karmaji and sister Darleneji, but more are needed. They are now able to keep up with orders and correspondence (which has been impossible with only one worker) as well as work on some new projects. In the works are an introductory book by brother Shiva which is being typed; new editions of Ba'ba's' Grace and Great Universe; new pracar materials, and ideological training course on casette tapes, and several other ideas. Ten thousand more cookbooks are currently being printed. Recently Six thousand What's Wrong with Eating Meat were printed, and 4,000 of them were sold before we got them from the printer! Recently, a large order for Baba's books was sent to Central Office in Indiaa

With Baba's release it seems a powerful wave of positive energy has swept the planet, and it is being strongly felt here at SO. In each department, real progress is now visible, and the collective unity, zeal, and enthusiasm for the work is steadily increasing.

n daMarga AND REVOLUTIONARY LEADERSHIP

BY AC. BODHIISHVARJI BRC.

A serious crisis exists today all over our planet: there is a lack of moral and courageous leadership among the exploited masses. This lack of leadership exists in all the three spheres: physical, psychic, and spiritual. Thus the vast majority of humanity is directionless and exploited. Without proper leadership they cannot escape this predicament.

The very purpose of Ananda Marga as a spiritual cult and Ananda Marga Pracarka amgha as an organization is to create true leaders for humanity, All of our 16 points, our moral code, and our missionary work serve to gradually transform UB into real leaders- Sadvipras. Of course, none of us are perfect (except Ba'Ba) and so all of us, from the highest to the lowest in the organization make mistakes. Conflicts may arise between workers. Ba'Ba is teaching us through these experiences how to lead, and how to interact with our leaders ylhen we feel they have made a mistake.

TIlE IDEAL LEADERS ARE THE SADVIPRAS,

THEY HAVE COURAGE, FIGHTING SPIRIT, DE

VOTION TO GOD, AND TRUE LOVE FO,R HUMAN

ITY. ABOVE ALL, THEY ARE STAUNCH MORAL

ISTS AND STRONG SPIRITUALISTS.

They will lead the masses neither by coercion nor trickery. Rather, they will win the hearts of the people by serving them sincerely and tirelessly, and the people will follow them automatically. The ideal leadership, then, is devoid of "power" in the sense in which we habitually regard it, i.e., as the-abIlity to coerce or befool others into doing what you want them to do rather than what they themselves want or need to do.

12

THE SADVIPRA'S POWER IS RATHER THE

POWER OF MORALITY AND STAUNCH DEDICA

TIONTO THE TRUTH. PEOPLE FOLLOW SUCH

LEADERS NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE FORCED

TO BUT BECAUSE THEY LOVE AND RESPECT

THEM, AND BECAUSE THEY REALIZE THAT

THEY THEMSELVES BENEFIT BY DOING SO.

EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP

In order to lead effectively, the leader must maximize communications. A good leader will always strive to do the following as far as possible:

(1) Be concise and clear. Vague or improperly understood directives will

,never get the hob done. Make sure

everyone understands fully what is being asked of them. If necessary, put it in

writing.

(2) Explain the why as much as possible. It is much easier for a person to be enthusiastic about something, the purpose of which they understand, and they also will be able to do a better job. (3) Be consistent. It is very difficult to do effctive work if ones instructions keep altering.

(4) Listen to the idea and feelings of

the subordinates. They may well have good ideas. When a person is inactive or apathetic toward the work, there is a reason; usually either that they don't understand what is being asked or its

importance, that they can't see how it can be done, or that they have some pent up grudge or doubt which needs to be expressed.

(5) Recognize that most people have the following needs:

(a) need for recognition for the work they do

DFTS-04162

(b) the need to feel what they're doing is important

(c) the need to grow or develop in some way through their work.

Understanding these needs and how to meet them will help you tremendously to fully utilize your workers.

DUTIES OF THE SUBORDINATE

The purpose of Ananda Harga is not to create alot of "yes men" or people with blind faith and unthinking obedience. Our mission is to create Sadvipras- conscious, wise, strong individuals capable of making .difficult decisions and standing firm against all opposition. No number of years of being a "yes man" will create such a person.

EVERY HUMAN BEING IS RESPONSIBLE FOR

THEIR OWN ACTIONS. THUS IT IS THE DUTY

OF EVEHY ANANDA MARGII TO BASE THEIR

LIFE ON THE DICTATES OF DHARMA. OUR

PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH BA'BA' AND

OUR EMBODIMENT OF HIS IDEOLOGY STANDS

ABOVE ALL ELSE.

Thus, if one is ordered by a superior in Ananda Harga to do an immoral act, that act is still immoral, no matter how high in the organization that superior may be. Of course, such a situation will be an exception, as presumably those placed by Ba'Ba' in responsible positions have sound moral judgement. But no one is perfect (again, except Ba'Ba') and should the situation arise we must act according to Dharma and not blindly as per instructions.

What to do?

Such a situation presents some-thing of a dilemma to the devoted Margii. On the one hand, he or she won't want to disrupt the organizational structure Ba'Ba' has created, or to generate disrespect for His workers. On the other hand, clearly the wrong must be righted. We cannot ignore injustice or immorality in the vague hope that "Ba'Ba' will take care of it" as we will then fail to do our Dharmic duty,

Fortunately, Ba'Ba' has given clear guidelines for the correction of errors in Carya Carya. The four steps of correctionare (1) sweet words, (2) "a stiff attitude", (3) explaining the possible punishment, and (4) taking steps for punishment. When the offender is a superior, then these steps are carried out as follows: (1) Express your concern and the ideo

logical reasons for it to the person in a nice way. Ask them to explain. It may well be that they didn't realize what the results of the action might be, or that they have a better grasp than yourself of the situation and can explain it to you. (2) If that fails, the protest more

strongly to the person and insist on some resolution of the conflict. At this point, it is a good idea to put your complaints in writing and to state them as clearly and concisely as possible. (3) If that too fails, inform them that you intend to bring formal charges against them. (4) Hake the formal complaint. The sys

system for making a formal charge is out outlined in Carya Carya •. lart I. pages 37-39. Note that the complaint must be in writing and that if it is disproved by the tribunal which will be formed, you must take the correction which the dependent would have received. You should document your case well with testimonies and evidence.

It is equally important to note what one should not do. One should not criticise or gossip against the person, or tell other subordinates or equals of the accused of your charge against them.

In addition to being against the 15 Shiilas Ba'Ba' has given us, this will only create disrespect and mistrust toward that person and weaken our organizational structure. This is irresponsible, and will not solve the problem anyway. One also should not remain silent, allowing the complaint to fester inside. This will again create mistrust and disrespect toward the organization, and this mistrust can grow in your heart and come to be

But the Bihar Government launched a fresh prosecutlon under pressure from New Delhi. The accused were cllnvicted when

the conditions of the Emergem:y were at their worst in November. 1976.

There are still few who can claim to have unders:,tood the ideas lind aims of the Ananda Marg correctly. It would be more sensible for both the Government and the, people to study in depth these I objectives : organisations like the Ananda Marg can only be tacl<led ideologically and by debate. not by coercion, which only fosters greater cohesion in tht' organisation's ranks.

They also undertake relief and welfare projects and work for the' "inner transforma· tion" of the writers and artists on -the cardinal prim::iple that "bum!iD society is one and, therefore, indivisible". According to the principle, human society when. f?r:med was classless ' but not pnmltive as Karl Marx would have us believe. The class system was created to serve clannish interest. No 'ism ' should be allowed to divide society_ Even the concept of internationalism is an obstacle in the way of man's realisation of full ' freedom and liberation. Only universalism belps man liberate himself from thf' bond ages of division.

In India also. it is claimed. tho organisation has a very powerfUl base. Perhaps only a few persons know t hat the Ananda Marg has two '" parallel bodies of male and female workers. And both howes do the . same work in their spheres through '" ERAWS and RAWA. According to Acl!arya Jagdishwaranand Avagj dhoot, there are about 700 male

AS:KED why Anandimurtiji should strike fear in the minds of

certain sections of people, his followers give two reasons : hls socia-spiritual philosophy and economict>-political ideology. The socia-spiritual phi losophy seeks to bring about an inner transformation in every man through the practice of T ar..tric Sadhana based' on the truth that man has emerged from the Supreme Being and throuihou his existence seeks to merge into

Since the leaders of these sections of society cannot face the challenge on ideological grounds, they hurl dirty abuses and malid, (ms charges at Anandamurtiji. The orthodox Hindu leaders and those who have a vested interest in the continuance of the · social tensions caused by caste and creed are stron!opponents of this organisation, say tht' Ananda. Lessons in meditation Korchnoi's recreation

BAGUIO. Philippines ( uP!) - World Chess challenger and Soviet defector Viktor Korchnoi has been taking lessons in transcendental meditation from two Americans convicted of attempted murder.

Sources said Tuesday the sessions calmed Korchnoi's nerves and helped him overcome difficulties in the 18th game to force Sovietchampion Anatoly Karpov to ask for a draw.

In a move to break Korchnoi 's momentum, Karpov requested postponement of the 19th game Tuesday. The game was reset for Thursday, with Korchnoi playing white.

Karpov leads the series 4-1 and needs two victories to retain the crown he won by default from American genius Bobby Fischer in 1975 and pocket the $350,000 top prize.

Since his return from a four-day trip to Manila last week, Korchnoi has been taking lessons in meditation from Stephen Michael Dwyer, 31, and Victoria Sheppard, 32.

The two were convicted of stabbing an Indian diplomat ·in Manila last February. They were sentenced to a maximum term of 17 years but are out on bail while the case is on appeal.

The two belonged to the Ananda Marga - an India-based sociospiritual organization whose members carried out a wave of violence in other countries to press demands for the release of their leader, who was in jail in India. He has since been freed.

When Dwyer and Ms. Sheppard heard Korchnoi's complaints about a Soviet hypnotist trying to disturb his concentration, they offered their services_

" Meditation is for the balance of the mind," said an Ananda

Marga member in Manila. " Korchnoi's problem is that a lot of

psychic forces are attacking him. His mind gets off balance_ He

doesn't know OOW to defend himself. "

The sessions have been held since Saturday at Korchooi's

hotel quarters and the two Americans were seen at the playing

Baba, " S o be i t", "B1assings" A l i ttle later Baba spoke again, "Wh o bas misused KaJpa-Taru ? Who misused Kalpa-taru ?"

No response. Baba again, "Please touch the toe of

my left foot." As I was messaging h is left foot, I was first to hold the left toe. Then others present also followed. Then Baba uttered something i n Samskrta and something in Hindi. I could not grasp t he meaning of al l that he said I but did fo llow what he said in Hindi. It meant, that our purpose had been fulfilled. Then partly in Samskrta and partly in Hindi, Baba was conveying blessings repea tedly.

Drinking Water

Baba then -asked fo r drinking water. I speeded off o n a bicycle and brought a bo ttle of lemonade from a shop about 5 to 6 hundred yards away. Simultaneously Harivansh had rushed to the bungalow of an Englishman l iving towards the north. When Harivansh reach the bungalow, its gate was closed. he could not collect himself sufficiently to open the gate a n d he jumped the fence and entered the bungalow. An Alsatain guarding the premises grabbed him but

did not maul h i m . The m istress of the h ouse was naturally upset.

A silver jar containing d rinking water was kept there. Noticing the remorseness of Harivansh, she gave the silver jar without further interrogation. She a lso gave a glass tumbler along with it.

When I o ffered lemonade, Baba said- "No, I want plain water." Then he took a few sips of water from the si lver jar. I offered the lemonade also, but he wanted me to wait for a short whi le . He then instructed -"Please make me sit in lotus posture". We then contrived to fold h is legs accordingly and put him i n lotus posture. He then asked us to leave him alone. All o f us moved away.

Life Force Established

For ab.out ten minutes, Baba was engrossed in contemplation. After that he asked his lotus posture to be undone. This was complied. Baba then touched different parts of h i s body , a l l the t ime prono uncing "Prana Pratisthita bhava, Prana Prali ;thita bhava" (meaning Life Force-be established) . All o f us resumed our places as before. The fi rst question Baba asked was, "Who is there ? Kishun ?"

"Yes, Baba."

"When did you arrive ?"

"Baba, I have been here all along."

Baba then asked if I realised that blood had drained o lI from seven eights o f his body and we h ad not done a good turn by savi;:g h i m . He repeated that our purpose has been fulfilled.

Thereafter Baba d rank the lemon water and started conversing normally. After

some t ime , we accompanied him to h i s residence. The re was no indication on the return t hat he was sufferin g in the least.

On the steps of his house, he turned back towards us; sal llted all of us and showed blessings. He then entered the house.

Not his normal self for previous two days.

We s tarted conversation a fter Baba went in. Nagina Dada said that Baba was not well for the last two days. He had been accompanying B ab a for the last two eventngs. During th is period, whenever Baba uttered "Hari Bol" he tended to go into a trance. Nagina Dada then reali sed that t h i s utterance was not ordinary. Possibly i t had some dangerous connotation. He had therefore asked Raba to promise n o t to pronounce these words. Consequentially, wh enever Baba uttered "Hari B ol" at the grave, Nagina Da would request him to des ist from uttering these words, and remind h i m of his undertaking. Then only could Baba be dissuaded from such utterance.
