Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! The big freeze is upon us!
Single digit and negative temperatures and
negative wind chills make you wonder if it is
ever going to get warm again. Since the
ground hog saw his shadow we have another
two weeks minimum of these brutal tempera-
tures, but not to worry spring and warm
weather is on its way. It may take a while but it
will eventually get here. I don’t know about you
but the older I get the more I look forward to
the warm weather. Everybody stay warm!
Some Chapter news: It is the Central Ohio
Chapter’s turn to host the Region 2 president’s
meeting this year. The meeting will be held the
first weekend in June which is June 5th and 6
th.
The president’s meeting committee, with
Hanse Cromer as the committee chair, is hard
at work planning the event. We will need
volunteers to man the host reception table at
the hotel to greet the other Chapter attendees
and to volunteer their vehicles (and them-
selves obviously) to provide transport for the
activities on Friday night the 5th and to help
with the meeting on Saturday, which is from
8am – 4:30-5:00pm. More information to
follow.

ASPE Region 2 Affiliate Liaison Report
If you’re like me, you’ve hit the ground running this year. Travel in January took me to Toronto, Las Ve-gas and Chicago. I attended KBIS 2015 (Kitchen & Bath Industry Show) held at the Las Vegas Conven-tion Center January 20-22. This show was held in conjunction with IBS 2015 (NAHB International Builder’s Show). This annual event draws in nearly 125,000 residential design and construction profes-sionals including engineers as well as manufactur-ers and their product management teams.
Exhibitors at KBIS/IBS showcase their latest prod-ucts and designs as well as the improvements they’ve made in technical performance. Focusing on plumbing related items, you’ll find everything from bar & bath faucets, bath sinks, bathtubs, kitchen faucets, kitchen sinks, showers, shower enclosures and water closets.
You’ll also find everything that is hidden behind our walls including all varieties of pipe, fittings, valves, backflow devices, and every pipe joining method available to the industry. You should experience KBIS/IBS for yourself. Mark your calendar. It will be held January 19-21, 2016 at the same venue.
What seemed to be an immediate turnaround, I spent a day recuperating from Las Vegas and head-ed right back out. This time to attend the 2015 AHR Expo (ASHRAE) held in Chicago. This show shat-tered an all-time attendance record of 62,000. Peo-ple traveled from 140 different countries to experi-
ence this HVAC/R event.
What’s different about the AHR Expo from KBIS/IBS show is not only the HVAC/R focus but it is tailored more for the engineering community.
This was a great opportunity for me to meet with manufacturers from abroad looking to enter the NA marketplace. I spoke with quite a few companies seeking advice on exactly how to do this.
As you can imagine, each country has unique per-formance and health effects testing as well as regu-latory requirements. Although the United States and Canada try to harmonize many of their standards and tests, this can still be a daunting and confusing task for someone unfamiliar with them. With confu-sion comes unwarranted expense.
With that said, look for new and innovative compa-nies to add sales engineers and reps firms as they seek product approvals from certification bodies and state authorities so they enter into an already com-petitive market.
You may wonder what I found to be one of the most interesting announcements made. It may be long overdue but you will see press technology devel-oped for the refrigeration market on your local dis-tributor’s shelves soon!
