Program #: SCHL3A Program: The Uncoupling Principle Length: 60 minutes (1.5 hour version also possible) HSW: Yes Credits: 1 LU Hour Description: This seminar will examine the Uncoupling Principle, which is now recognized in the Tile Council of America's 2001 Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation. Review the history behind the Uncoupling Principle and examine the evolution of tile setting techniques, along with the benefits and limitations of each stage of development. The individual functions that are inherent to an uncoupling system will be discussed and the major implications for tile and stone installations revealed. Learning Objectives: At the end of this program, the participant will be able to: 1) comprehend the basics of the uncoupling principle and its relationship to the tile and stone industry; 2) recognize new areas of installation that can be attained through the utilization of an uncoupling system; and 2) interpret and apply the new details and applications found in the current TCA Handbook. Approach: A PowerPoint presentation that incorporates photo images, video clips, and computer animation will be used. Handouts, including the latest edition of the TCA Handbook, will be distributed. While there will be a question and answer period at the end of the presentation, questions are encouraged throughout as well. A/V needed: Electrical power and a screen for the PowerPoint presentation. (The CES facilitator will supply the laptop and projector) Target Audience: Architects, specifiers, owners, and other design professionals in the residential and industrial/commercial markets. Ideal audience size: 10 to 20 people. Facilitator Qualifications: All of Schluter Systems' facilitators have been with the company a minimum of 3 to 14 years; most have been in the industry an average of 10 years.
