In Case of a Medical Emergency

When living in a foreign country, it is especially advisable to prepare contingency plans before an emergency occurs. Here are some tips from “Taipei Living” prepared by the Community Services Center in Taipei: * Know where the nearest hospital emergency room is located. * Know the quickest route to the hospital. * Have a “good neighbor” plan set up in case you need help. If your spouse is hurt, you may need someone to help drive. * In most cases, it is best to take a private car or taxi to the hospital. (Ambulance service in Taiwan is not as readily available in Taiwan as in the U.S.) * Carry a card in your wallet or purse with the hospital’s address written in Chinese in case you need to take a taxi.
