Southerners in the United States; was formed in the 19th century to resist the emancipation of slaves; used terrorist tactics to suppress black people

Scalawags- People who were southern whites who supported Reconstruction and the Republican Party after the American Civil WarCarpetbaggers- A northerner who

went to the south and tried to become a republican politician especially during Reconstruction times
