PLC PREP The preps have been very busy learning about nouns, verbs, letter blends and suffixes in MSL. In reading, they have been learning about such things as morphology, summarising and making text to self and text to text connections. In maths, they have been learning about addition and subtraction. Their capacity to learn and how much they have learnt so far is amazing. Last week the students enjoyed Footy Day. This week the preps were excited to go to the Trade Fair run by the grade 5 students. During Planning Week, the children enjoyed the day on Wednesday with different specialists while the prep teachers planned their learning for next term.

During the day, the children were excited to meet Subzero, the racehorse. A few students wrote that 'he has a girlfriend because he nodded his head when we asked him'. Next term, the students will be swimming in week 2. Please ensure that all items of clothing are labelled. The school holidays will be a good time for your child/ren to practise getting dried and dressed independently.

PLC 1 We have been working very hard this term and enjoyed our amazing excursion last week to the MCG. Next week will be our last week of term and we will be sending home an important note for term four. We will be sending home a list of iPad apps that the students will be using to assist their learning in inquiry and digital technologies in term four. If you could please try your best to ensure that these apps are downloaded so we can have the best start to term four. Have a safe and happy holidays.

PLC 2 The grade 2s had an amazing day at the MCG (despite the rain). Activities included ‘Game On’, which allowed the students to participate in skills used in football, cricket, archery and bike riding. The students also visited the Sports Museum where they saw memorabilia of famous sports people that have played at the MCG. The 3D hologram was a lot of fun. Students experienced the journey of a footy player by entering the locker rooms, meeting room and oval. For many, this excursion (based around our Inquiry Unit of ‘Special Places’) was and will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

PLC 3 During our Royal Botanic Gardens excursion, the students participated in many

activities that related to our inquiry unit ‘Why should Indigenous culture and history be

important to every Australian?’ We were lucky enough to experience a welcome to

country, complete ochre painting and view many traditional indigenous tools.

In the first week of term 4, we will be participating in our annual swimming program. Please ensure your child’s permission note has been returned. Please refer to the note

PLC 4 It's been amazing to see so many students dress up in their footy colours to support their teams on Footy Day. Students had a great day participating in many sports activities and clinics throughout the day.

Students have enjoyed completing and publishing their own narratives and are getting ready to see their final products. Students have started their learning on fractions with enthusiasm which is showing in their understanding.

As it comes to the end of term we want to remind you to bring in your disco note and money for our school disco on Thursdays 21 September. We also want to wish everyone and safe and fun school holidays and hope to see everyone back for an exciting term 4.

PLC 5 The grade 5s have had a big week with the Trade Fair, which was a huge success! Over two days, students from Cambridge had the opportunity to buy goods and services from the grade 5s, from cake pops, marshmallow dips and popcorn to book marks, bracelets and glitter pens. These goods were all made by the students in their own time. They learned about expenditure, income, profit and loss, and the variables of running a successful stall. It was a very successful event for the students and a large profit was made. The students are now researching charities (it is the subject of their IIIP’s) to donate their profits to. Each grade 5 class will choose a different charity. Thank you to all of the students, parents and teachers for supporting this event and making it the success that it was!!

2018 ENROLMENTS Please ensure all enrolments for 2018 are submitted as soon as possible to allow for transition planning and grade placements.

CHANGING CONTACT DETAILS Changes to phone numbers, emergency contacts, medical information or other details need to be made in writing. Please either send a note or email or drop into the office to pick up a form to complete. Phone numbers or other details written on excursion notes are only used for that event and these details are not entered on our system as a permanent change.

STUDENTS ARRIVING LATE ALL students (including siblings) arriving after the bell has gone MUST SIGN IN AT THE OFFICE and collect a late pass BEFORE GOING TO THE CLASSROOM.

ATTENDANCE/ABSENCES The Department of Education requires that parents provide an explanation for all student absences. Where possible, parents should inform the school in advance of upcoming/planned absences. The preferred method is to report absences via the school website at www.cambridgeps.vic.edu.au. If you do not have access to the internet, you can write a note to your child’s classroom teacher (please include your child’s full name, grade and dates of absence). Please ensure notes are sent to the classroom and not handed in at the office. Teachers will take note of the details and then pass the note to the office for processing. It is therefore not necessary for parents to notify the teacher and the office separately.

PLANNED ABSENCES/HOLIDAYS If your child will be away from school for a planned absence, please notify the school in writing before departure. Extended absences for holidays etc will need to be approved by the principal. Absences of longer than 10 school days may not be approved and would then be recorded as an unapproved absence. If you have any queries or concerns about a planned extended absence, please contact the office.

OSHC NEWS The last two weeks have been super busy in Outside School Hours Care. The children really enjoyed making slime, which was a very popular activity. We also attempted to make air-drying modelling clay; however, it didn’t quite work out so Ooblek was made instead. The kids also had a go at costume making, using different methods to join the fabric together, including tying and Velcro dots. We are hoping to extend this in the near future by teaching the children some basic sewing. The children have also really enjoyed creating with Hama beads. Other craft, including treasure boxes and floating dinosaurs have been very popular. We have also rearranged some of our areas at the request of the children and have set up a new dinosaur area. The children really enjoyed helping to set it up. Weekly Planning As you know, the activities set up at our service are based around the ideas and interests of children. We are now taking this one step further and have started involving the children even more in planning, with weekly planning meetings with the children. All of their ideas have been amazing and we have enjoyed putting them into the program. Routine and afternoon snack Over the last couple of weeks the Educators in Outside School Hours Care have been reflecting on our routines around snack time. Over the last year we have tried to hold a progressive snack, where children are able to come

up and have their snack at any time throughout the afternoon. After much review, we have now decided to hold two main snack times in the afternoon at 3:20 pm and again at 5:00 pm. We will be encouraging children as much as possible to eat at the first snack time; however, we will understand if they want to eat later or are still hungry at 5:00 pm. Fruit will still be available throughout the rest of the afternoon. Lost property We have a large amount of lost property items sitting in OSHC, going as far back as June/July holidays. If you believe that your child may have any missing items here, please come and collect them. Any clothes left at the end of the school term will be going to the school office.

Enrolment forms are available to download from our school website at www.cambridgeps.vic.edu.au under the PARENTS tab.

On Wednesday, Subzero, the Melbourne Cup

winning racehorse, visited Cambridge for a free

incursion provided by Racing Victoria. The

preps, grade 1s and grade 2s were lucky enough

to attend the incursion, which featured the

racehorse and a real jockey. The incursion

started out on the soccer pitch, but it rained and

had to be moved into the gym foyer / Italian

room. Imagine the faces of the students when

they saw a horse in the Italian room?? They were

thrilled as some of them had never seen a horse

before!

LIBRARY NEWS

In the interests of supporting the literacy skills of all the students in our school community, we would like to ask you if you have any pre-loved children’s books (in good condition) that you would be willing to donate to our school. These books will be made freely available to all our students to take home to read and keep, or return to our Free Book Stand where they can exchange it for another free book. If you do have any books to donate, could you please send them to school with your child or drop them off at the library any day, before or after school. Thank you to the generous families who have already donated books for this project.
