The Alberta Teachers' Association, with financial
support from Alberta Education, is working on a
Pilot Project to enhance online services available
to teachers for professional growth planning.
The Pilot Project will underpin the development
of a program of support for teachers and
administrators as they fulfill their obligations
under Alberta Education Policy 2.1.5 (Teacher
Growth, Supervision and Evaluation) for
completing their professional growth plans.
The program will provide a robust online tool for
professional growth planning.
The online tools (currently in pilot form) are
envisioned as a:
One-stop opportunity for teachers and administrators to
participate in self-reflection of their professional
practice
Process to consider the knowledge, skills and attributes
outlined in the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard or the
Professional Practice Competencies for School Leaders
in Alberta
Place to access an online template to create, store and
track progress related to professional growth
Place to archive previous growth plans
Self-Reflect on

Achievements
The OPGP Growth Plan template shows
a demonstrable relationship to the TQS
and allows you to consider and include
goals related to the education plans of
the school, the school authority and the
government.
The OPGP Growth Plan includes
a template for goals, strategies
and resources, timelines, and
indicators of success.
The OPGP Self-Reflection template provides a
framework organized around descriptors (KSAs )
from the Teaching Quality Standard.
The OPGP template provides the
opportunity for you to add your
ongoing reflections and evidence as
you implement your plan.
The OPGP Growth Plan allows you to track your progress
in achieving the goal, to revise goals or add new
goals at any time during the year.
The OPGP Growth Plan
template allows you to add
notes, supporting evidence
related to goal achievement,
as well as to identify Future
Needs and Resources related
to each goal.
The OPGP Service allows you to create
a PDF of your plan and to print a copy
for the review and approval process.
The OPGP provides the template where
all information related to the plan and
the achievement of the goals is stored.
A Year-end PDF version can be made
and printed for sharing. The plan can
also be archived for reference and
review at another time.
Data will only be accessible to the
Association and generation of reports
through data mining will be done by the
Association.
Reports generated will be for the purpose
of testing the tool’s functionality relative
to its ability to mine data.
The reports will not include any personal
information nor any data that may identify
an individual participant.
NO personal information nor data that may identify an individual participant will be released.
Data will be used from the Growth Plan area
of the service only. At NO time will the
teacher’s self-reflection data be viewed.
Reports that are generated may be shared as information items with the Online Professional Growth Web Service Steering Committee or a focus group of PD providers (eg, ATA Convention Boards, Alberta Regional Professional Development Consortium and the Alberta Assessment Consortium).
Following the conclusion of the Pilot Project,
all data stored will be destroyed under the
supervision of the Association’s Privacy
Officer in accordance with regulatory
requirements.
Prior to destroying data, participants will
have the option to transfer their data.
Participants in the Pilot Project may opt out
at any time. Should they choose to do so,
their data will be destroyed upon receipt by
the Alberta Teachers’ Association of their
written notice to opt out.
Participants in year 2 of the pilot will be
asked to answer a voluntary survey regarding
their experience with the tool.
If you are interested please complete the online
Expression of Interest located at: www.survey
monkey.com/s/OPGP. Once completed you will
receive a Welcome Package and further details
regarding the Online Service.
As the login process is through the Association’s
secure site, you must set up your account to be
able to access the service.
