THE AIR FORCE SCHOOL
CLASS IV HOLIDAY HOMEWORK (2018-19)
THEME: Paradise Unexplored – North East India
Northeast India is the easternmost region of India
representing both a geographic and political administrative
division of the country. It comprises eight states. They are
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur,
Tripura and Mizoram. Sikkim belongs to the group of north
eastern states but doesn't belong to the group of seven
sister states of India. Sikkim is also called as the only
brother of seven sister states.
The name is derived from seven elms which were planted in
a circle with a walnut tree at their centre on an area of
common land known as Page Green. The clump was known
as the Seven Sisters by 1732.
The Seven Sisters of India are arguably the most beautiful
region of India attracting travellers from all across India to
explore its untouched beauty.
Activity 1- A LINGUISTIC ATTEMPT!
The North East of India is rich in linguistics and has about 220
languages! Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Garo, Khasi,
Nepali , Mizo to name just a few. Given the diverse population in
the region with only a few widely spoken ones recognized as the
official language by the state and central government, a large
number of languages from the North East have become
vulnerable to extinction.
So let’s learn how to speak in any one of the languages spoken in
the North Eastern part of India. Learn to say the following –
(i) ‘What is your name?’
(ii) ‘ The five sense organs- eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin’
(iii) ‘ Please’, ‘Thank you’, ‘Sorry’
Wouldn’t it be great fun learning a new language?
Practice this new language with your friends and family!
Activity 2- A FABLE FROM FAR!
Literature and folklores are rooted in culture and tradition. Fables/
folklores are short stories, typically with animals as characters,
conveying a moral. The North East India is a fertile ground for
various traditions belonging to different tribes of that region.
Meet any person from your neighbourhood, who belongs to the
North Eastern parts of India. With your parents’ consent interact with
them. Ask them about their lifestyle, food habits, culture and also
ask them to narrate any one fable from their region.
1. On a pink coloured A4 size paper depict the fable that you have
heard from this friend. You could also draw any character of the
fable. Give a title to your drawing based on the story.
2. Also write the summary (in about 15 sentences) of the fable on
another A4 size paper. Write the title of the story at the top. At the
bottom mention the name of your friend who shared the story with
you along with the name of the state he/ she belongs to. (The
template is given below)
