Unique and Intricate Culture

• Diverse culture • Mix began with the Westernization of the Ottoman

Empire, and developed as people migrated from central Asia towards the west and came into contact with the Turks and their unique culture.

• A religion based nation reformed into a modern nation-state that strictly seperated the state with religion

• This separation caused the nation to embrace and express art, yet maintain their traditional values.

• Food:• Every meal includes vegetables and meat primarily

of Lamb or beef.• Sourdough bread is served with almost every meal. • Beer, wine and tea are typically drank at meals

• Gender / Statuses • Educational programs are opened to woman, but

traditional values say they should stay home and do domestic work.

• Men dominate in high status jobs (Military, Business and Government)

•Turks began migrating to this land in the

eleventh century. •After the Ottoman Empire Collapsed in WW1, some of the allies helped re-shape the country into the modern Republic of Turkey in 1923.

Historical Background•Turkey is Democratic, Secular, Unitary and Constitutional Republic. •Has maintained cultural, political, economical, and industrial relations with the Eastern World, especially the Middle East.

•Turkey is classified as a regional power due to its location, economy and strong army. •Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is the current Prime Minister and has been in office since 2002.
