The Advantage e-Newsletter
Who is that lurking at the door…? Covid-19, of course! Isn’t this what life has seemed like the past two plus months?
Masks, social distancing, uber sanita-tion practices—all the tools necessary for our immediate future.
While most businesses are now open-ing, many will continue to have safe practices in place for the safety of their employees AND their customers.
Please be RESPECTUL of whatever prac-tices the businesses have posted. I have attached the Respectful Poster that we sent out a couple weeks ago again, along with the COVID-19 Notice Poster. Please feel free to use these at your businesses, if you wish.
As you know we have been bom-barded with daily notices and guidelines from local, county, state and federal agencies. And as you know, we have passed much of this information on to you, our awesome member/investors. But we have also passed the information onto our community at-large via our Face Book Page.
We have also been in daily contact with the Lincoln County Health Department and Emergency Management to share information. This has been a valuable use of our time.
Jesica from Tomahawk CC and I have been in weekly contact as well, sharing information, trying to be as consistent as possible within Lincoln County.
The City of Merrill also still has funds available in their Small Business Covid grant and loan fund. Qualified busi-nesses can receive up to $1500 in a grant and/or a $1500 low interest loan. The funds cannot be used for employee wages, but can be used for other busi-ness expenses.
As of right now summer cancellations include: WI River Pro Rodeo; the Mer-rill City Band Concerts; July 4th Fire-works in Merrill; Art Attack; and Pork in the Park.
The City Parks/trails are open but the playgrounds are NOT open yet. Also the shelters and bathrooms are not yet open. Summer Playground has been cancelled and no athletic sports fields are open for use at this time. And the Bierman Family Aquatic Center will NOT open this summer.
Our Chamber Golf Classic has been rescheduled for July 10. Invitations, registrations and sponsorship forms are out. Our Chamber Classic is important for a couple of reasons:
(1) it is a necessary fundraiser for the Chamber’s annual budget;
(2) it has been a constant fixture/event for the Chamber for the past 42 years;
(3) it is a great networking event bringing many of member/businesses together with many retired business members that still participate;
(4) it is simply a fun day of network-ing, for most. But, there is still a level of competition for a few
teams!
We reopened our office officially on May 26, but due to social distancing, we are only allowing two guests at one time inside. We will reevaluate this in
a couple of weeks.
We were finally able to get the final round of our 2020 stickers mailed out to our members for your membership plaques. If you did not receive yours or are in need of a plaque, please contact Ken, our Member Services pro at [email protected]
In the midst of all this, our tourism stats came in for the 2019 season. I have shared those results with the press and will also supply the info in my mid-year report for the City Council this month. You can also see the results on page 3 of this newsletter.
As you know, we generally do a Shop Local piece in May, but that was post-poned due to the virus. So we are kicking it off in June. Ken is work-ing on a new video, showing members greeting each other with elbow bumps rather than hand-shakes. And passing along the fact that we love our businesses with heart-shaped hands. It’s a light ‘hearted ‘ piece that is very serious...together, we are stronger and asks the question: Will handshakes be a greeting style of the past?
As you know, our May Business after Hours was cancelled and rescheduled for June 18. As of right now, that is still

Several members are taking part in the Back in Business & Better Ribbon Cutting Program. Ken started doing these last week. If you would like to have one, please contact us and let us know.
As I mentioned, June will be our Shop Local Month. And as part of our Back in Business & Better Campaign, June 15-21, we are asking our businesses to offer something special, such as a coupon, a discount, or a gift thanking shoppers for their business. We will post your business special on our social media during this week.
It is more important than ever, that we support our local businesses!
We will also run a special drawing give-away to a couple of our member businesses that participate as well as shopper gift cards. Details are attached.
If your business is interested, let us know so we can advertise it. We are doing this promotion virtually, so customers should take a picture of their receipt or a photo at the store and upload it to our face book page. All of our local financial institutions are co-sponsoring this give-away with us, so a big thank you to them: Asso-ciated Bank, BMO Harris, Incredible Bank, mBank, Merrill Community Bank, and Park City Credit Union. We will conduct a Live Face Book Drawing at 12:00 Noon in June 23.
We are stronger when we all work together and support each other. So stay strong and stay healthy.
From my doorway to your door-way...until we see your smiling faces again, please be safe and well.

So...What’s New?
Friends of Normal Park
Bricks make great gifts for any occasion! There are 4 sizes of bricks to choose from & each brick can be engraved with names, dates or special messages. The bricks make wonderful gifts for birth-days, anniversaries, holiday gifts or simply to honor someone in a permanent way. All profits from the brick purchases are earmarked for future improvements to Normal Park. So pur-chasing a brick for the walkway is just the beginning, you will also be supporting ongoing improvements now & into the future. The bricks have not only paid for the memorial walk-way, but also the garden surrounding the gazebo. New in 2019 were the bathrooms, concession stand/kitchen, warming house building & curbing around the gazebo & new parking lot thanks to our partners City of Merrill & the Merrill City Band. A new partner in our Normal Park venture is the Merrill Optimist Club. The accessible playground is installed and we will decide where the new path-ways should be installed followed by historic lighting next year. Due to Covid-19, the scheduled 2020 improvements will continue in 2021. In 2021 we will be adding sprinkler system, new sod and decorative fencing.
3 ways to support Normal Park! Tax-deductible.
Hanging baskets time is here! Donation letters are out, but anyone who loves seeing the flowers can donate. These baskets are made possible by a dedicated group of volunteers & cash donations from residents of Merrill and not the city govern-ment. Please help us beautify the corridors of Merrill this summer by making a contribution to the Hanging Basket Fund. The Spotlight on Business for June is Incredible Bank located at 3210 East Main Street in Mer-rill.
Incredible Bank started in 1967 as River Valley Bank with a single location in Roth-schild, Wisconsin. Over the years Incredi-ble Bank grew to 15 locations in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. They are still a community bank in those areas with a focus on providing businesses and resi-dents with top-notch banking products and services, but now under the name Incredible Bank. In 2009, they opened Incredible Bank, the online, national community bank, and because of its rapid success, decided to merge both banks into one powerhouse brand that remained committed to the communities they serve, but with a twist. And that twist was to bring both banks together and be known from here on out as Incredible Bank. But that’s where they are today, how did
it all begin? Ron and Kay Nicklaus were a
dynamic husband and wife team who were
committed to agriculture, and became the
largest grower and shipper of beans in the
U.S. They had a clear vision of what banks
should do and an even clearer vision of
what banks weren’t doing. They purchased
River Valley Bank in 1983, and with their
sons Todd and Greg, and then current Presi-
dent and CEO, Todd Nagel, turned the bank
into Incredible Bank, the Most Innovative
Bank in America. The company’s continued
emphasis on I.C.E. (Incredible Customer
Experiences™) has helped the bank grow to
over $1.4 billion in assets.
Incredible Bank, one more home-grown,
hometown business right here in Merrill!
