Welcome! Welcome to the Advanced Oracle Workbook and welcome to the world of the mysteries of the outer court of the Magi. Your having purchased this book symbolizes an initiation into the science of the cards that opens a whole new door of knowledge and fascination. It also gives you power that you never had before, hopefully power that you will use to benefit your life in constructive ways and share with those you love. Though much of this material seems complicated at first, you will quickly get used to reading the spreads in this manner and evolve quickly in your understanding of the secrets of the Magi. This is the initiation and once you have digested what is written here, you are no longer a neophyte, but instead a mystic in the brotherhood. I welcome you and look forward to hearing about your own amazing discoveries. The Grand Solar Spreads in this Book All the cards for the yearly spreads found in the Cards of Your Destiny come from the 90 quadrations of the Grand Solar Spreads, of which you have a representation in this book. In this book you will find ways of reading them that you never before realized, giving you a wealth of new information that is not available in any other fashion. Each of the Grand Solar Spreads has every card in the deck, except the Joker, sitting in its destined place for every year of life. We choose our destiny when we choose the day and month of our birth. The cards herein simply illuminate the particulars of that choice. Everything is significant in this system - the position of each card, how it moves, or doesn't move from year to year, what cards are adjacent to it, the position of its karma cards, which card is occupying its natural place for the year in question and whose natural place is it occupying. Take your time in learning how to read these spreads, digest each step completely before proceeding on to the next. In this fashion you will soon be making huge strides in understanding that you never even dreamed of before. If you need more instruction, find a way to attend one of the classes put on by myself or the teachers I have trained or get a copy of the tapes that accompany this workbook. Support is always there for you when you need it. Well, let's begin from the ground up with the very basics of this system, how to read the Grand Solar Spreads. Good luck! Instructions for Reading the Grand Solar Spreads To read for any person, any age, do the following and follow this example closely. 1. Find the page with the Grand Solar Spreads for the "Age" the person is at the time being read for. This presupposes that you already have looked up the person's birth card in the Birthday Chart. Remember that the AGE is the age, not the year of life. For example if you are 2 years old, you are in your 3rd year of life. Our spreads are listed as the current AGE of the person.

2. Once you have the page, locate the person's birth card in the Grand Solar Spread in one of the little boxes. On page 4 is an example of the yearly spreads for the Q♣, age 23. We have circled her card, finding it in the Mars Line and the Mars Column. (See the Legend for Planetary Symbols if you don't know which symbols represent which planets. "Columns" are vertical rows, "lines" are horizontal.) 3. To find the Direct Cards in the spread, count over from right to left from the birthday card, the first card being the Mercury card, the next being the Venus card and so forth. When you get to the end of the Line, go down one line and then begin from the right to left again until you have counted 7 cards. IMPORTANT: If you get to the bottom, left hand corner (Neptune/Neptune), you go up to the "Crown" line, the right-most card and continue to the left. From the end of the Crown line you go to the Mercury/Mercury position and again go left. The direct cards are those in The Cards of Your Destiny that are on the top line of each yearly spread. Check this and you will see. 4. The Pluto(Challenge) and Result cards will be the 8th and 9th cards in this same direction. In our example chart, you see them marked as the Q♦ and the 5♠. 5. To find the Vertical Cards, we simply go up from the birthday card, counting the first again as Mercury, the second as Venus and so forth until we get to the top of what ever column we are on. Then we proceed to the bottom of the very same column and proceed upwards, counting until we have reached the birthday card. Sometimes there will be only 6 vertical cards as you will find that you reach the birthday card on the 7th. In this event, there is no Vertical Neptune card. The verticle cards are those in The Cards of Your Destiny that are on the bottom line of each yearly spread. Check this and you will see. These cards are the main cards that make up one's yearly spreads in the Oracle. The other two cards, represented as smaller cards under each of the main cards in the Grand Solar Spreads, are the "Underlying Cards" taken from the Natural and Perfect Spreads.

The Underlying Cards Except for the three fixed cards, the K♠, 8♣ and J♥, every card has one or two underlying cards. The semi-fixed cards, the 9♥, 7♦, A♣, and 2♥ only have each other as underlying cards. They are pairs of cards karmically bound together in many ways. See Sacred Symbols of the Ancients for more information about the karmic bonds between cards..

However, for your readings the underlying cards can provide additional helpful information about the card in question in any given period, often revealing a person involved in the situation represented by the "parent card" or giving additional details about the nature of the situation or person named by the "parent card". The parent card is the larger of the three cards in most of the boxes of any given Grand Solar Spread. Interpretation of the underlying cards is an art and takes practice and time to master. One should avoid trying to interpret them in the normal manner as they does not operate that way. I usually recommend most students to simply ignore the underlying cards until they have mastered the meanings of the parent cards, which often takes a year or more. The underlying cards are, in truth, the cards that "own" their respective spaces in the Grand Solar Spread by virtue of their holding those positions in the Mundane and Natural Spreads. You will notice that the underlying cards do not change positions in the Grand Solar Spread from year to year. By looking at them you will see that all the right hand underlying cards comprise the Mundane Spread and all the left hand underlying cards comprise the Natural Spread. Thus, by looking at any page in the Grand Solar Spreads you can also read the Mundane and Natural Spreads. You do not find any underlying cards for the three fixed cards because they do not have any. No one ever takes their place in any year. Instructions for finding the Long Range Card and Additional Information 1. Taking the person's age, check the first 13 Grand Solar Spreads until you find the one that has the person's age within its range of Long Range Cards. See the Title at the top of each Spread for this information. In our previous example we would look at the Spread for Age 3, since the Age 3 Spread has the range of Long Range Cards Ages 21 - 27. 2. Once again find the person's birthday card on this spread. In the case of our Q♣ woman example, we find that her card is in the Jupiter line, Neptune column. 3. Counting to the left, the same as in finding the direct cards of the spread, count the first card as the first age in the range listed and then add a year to each next card until you come to the age of the person you are looking for. In our example, the Long Range Card for Age 21 would be the 3♣, Age 22 the 6♥, and finally Age 23 the 8♥. If you have any question about this, confirm your choice by looking up the same cards in The Cards of Your Destiny until you feel sure about it. The Seven-Year Cycle Pluto and Result Cards The Long Range Card is, in reality, one of the Seven-Year cycle cards. Just as we have seven direct planet-ruled cards in our yearly spreads and we are always in some 52-day period, we are also located somewhere within a seven-year cycle, where each year is ruled by one card. Each seven-year cycle has a Pluto and Result card, just like the yearly spreads. The Long Range Card is the card ruling the particular year of that seven-year cycle that we are currently in. When we complete the seven-year cycle, we turn to the next page in The Grand Solar Spreads and begin a new cycle with seven new cards and new 7-year Pluto and Result cards. For example, if I am a 9♦, 32 years old, I would look at the Age 4 page to find my Long Range Card for this year. Here on the Age 4 page I find the 9♦ in the Mars line and Jupiter column. Since I am 32 I would count over from the Q♣ for Age 28, 10♠ for Age 29, 8♣ for Age 30, 10♥ for Age 31 and 9♣ for Age 32. In this current cycle of seven years, I am in the 5th year, or Saturn year (Q♣ would be Mercury, 10♠ Venus, 8♣ Mars, 10♥ Jupiter, 9♣ Saturn, 5♣ Uranus, and J♠ Neptune). What

would be the Pluto and Result cards for my current seven-year cycle? Did you guess the A♥ and Q♠? You are right. The Pluto and Result cards for the seven year cycle are the 8th and 9th cards, just as in the yearly spreads. These seven-year Pluto and Result cards tell about major goals and challenges for the current seven-year period, the things that transform us and make us grow. They are a significant part of a complete reading and often reveal hidden meanings to a person's life. Also keep in mind that the seven-year result card can represent something or someone significant that we will end up with at the end of that seven-year period. Instructions for finding the Environment Card The Environment Card is a card, like the long range card, that describes what or who is around you or protects you during a given year. It is just as important as the Long Range card but is often more of an external factor whereas the Long Range card can be more of an internal influence. The Environment Card for any year is that card which sits in the same position where your Birthday Card sits in the Mundane Spread. Of course, if your Birthday Card is one of the three fixed cards, the K♠, J♥, or 8♣, or one of the four semi-fixed cards, the A♣, 2♥, 9♥, 7♦, you have no environment cards for the year. This is because of the nature of those cards not moving and not letting any other cards occupy their space. Let's take an example to see how this works:

If I am the Q♦ card, age 33, what is my environment card for the year? The Q♦, in the Mundane spread, sits in the Saturn line and Mercury column. Looking at age 33 at the same relative position, we find that the 6♦ is the Environment Card for that year. Interpret this the same as the Long Range Card but consider it more of an external or protective happening or influence.

Finding the Environment Cards for each Period Each period also has an environment card. It is what surrounds or protects us each period of 52 days. The environment card for any given period is found in the same way as the yearly environment but instead of looking at the card that is found in the same position as the Birthday Card, we count the periods beginning with the Mercury card from the Yearly environment card. Using our same example of a Q♦, age 33, the Environment cards for each period are as follows:

Mercury Venus Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune 4♠ J♣ 10♦ 7♦ 2♠ J♦ 9♠

As you can see, the environment cards for each period are those cards that fall into the same positions as the seven Life Spread cards in the Mundane Spread of one's birthday card. Review the example carefully to make sure you understand it. Now, you may ask whether or not you can read the Environment Cards of the Pluto and Result. My opinion is that you can, but since I haven't been using them that much to date, I cannot say this with absolute assurance. However, I do know that some people do read them and find them very useful. How to find someone's Karma Cards

Though The Cards of Your Destiny has a chart of all the karma cards, it is important to know from where they were derived. Being able to look at a Yearly or Life Spread and see the karma cards quickly will open you up to new ways of reading the cards. What I call karma cards are the same thing that Florence Campbell calls the displacement cards. Essentially, they are the cards found in the same position as another card when we move either from the Natural to the Mundane Spread or vice versa. Lets do a quick example to demonstrate how they are found. First open the book so that you can see the Natural and Mundane Spreads in front of you. For our example we will use the 3♣ card. Looking at the Mundane Spread first, we note that the 3♣ sits in the Saturn line, Mars column. Now glancing over at the Natural Spread, looking in the same position, we see that in the Saturn line, Mars column, sits the 5♦. This is the first karma card for the 3♣, the one that he or she owes. The second karma card is found in just the opposite fashion. We begin by finding the location of the 3♣ in the Natural Spread and see that it sits in the Mars line, Venus column. Now moving back to the Mundane Spread, we see sitting in that same place the K♦. The K♦ is the other karma card for the 3♣, the one that owes him or her. Using Karma Cards in Relationship Comparisons This is all there really is to finding them. However, ambitious students can use these karma card placements to get more information about relationships that is powerful and meaningful. To give you a quick example, I always wondered why I have such easy going, natural friendships with K♦ people that I meet. I am the Q♦ and the only quick connection that I immediately see is the Mercury connection in the Natural Spread. Somehow that connection didn't feel like it completely explained the connection I feel in these relationships. It always felt more loving and deeper than just a Mercury mental bond. Looking closer at the Natural and Mundane Spreads, I discovered that the 3♣, my direct Venus card in the Mundane Spread, is karmically linked to the K♦. For all intent and purpose, this gives me a strong Venus connection with K♦ people. When I realized this, I felt that I had the answer I was looking for. Looking into other relationships I noticed more and more of these connections that are not visible at the outset, but which are quite important and meaningful in doing Life readings and relationship comparisons. Take your karma cards and the karma cards of those you know and see if you see similar, meaningful connections by using this method. Sometimes these connections are the real story behind relationships. How to Quadrate the Deck of Cards This little exercise, though complex, is worth doing manually at least once, to demonstrate how the cards get arranged into the Grand Solar Spreads. If you notice the difference between the Natural Spread and the Mundane Spread you will see that all the cards but three have moved significantly. This movement of cards is not random but is actually accomplished by a very specific process called the "quadrate". Each of the 90 Grand Solar Spreads represents another quadration from the previous year. Magically, on the 90th quadration, the cards return to their "natural state" in natural order, as the Natural Spread. The procedure for doing this quadration is described in the Mystic Test Book, but is difficult to understand. I have endeavored to remove the difficulty from it and to present it here for you to do. I highly recommend that you do this at least once. Later, we will be using this same quadrate to do personal readings as Olney Richmond did. But this is an advanced subject that we will not fully understand for a time yet.

STEP ONE - Take a deck of cards and pile them face up from the Ace of Hearts to the King of Spades. This means the first card you lay down will be the Ace of Hearts face up, followed by the 2♥, 3♥ and so forth. After the hearts comes the clubs in likewise fashion, then the diamonds and finally the spades. When you are done you should be looking at the K♠ card on the top of the face up deck.

STEP TWO - Turn this deck over (K♠ is now on bottom). Take the top three cards

together as one and lay them down, face down. This first pile will be the "Hearts" pile. Next take the next three cards and lay them into another pile called the "Clubs" pile. Now do the same for a "Diamonds" pile and then a "Spades" pile. Now go back to the hearts pile and lay the next three cards on top followed by the clubs, diamonds, and spades again and again until you have four cards remaining in your hand. Take these four cards and lay them first on the heart pile, then the club pile, then the diamond pile and finally the last card on the spade pile.

STEP THREE - Now you have four piles of cards with 13 cards in each pile. Take the clubs pile

and lay it on top of the hearts pile, still face down. Next take the diamonds pile and place it on the top of the same hearts pile followed by the spades pile. At this point you should have a single pile of cards, the 3♥ on the bottom and the K♠ on the top.

STEP FOUR - Pick up the deck now and begin laying the cards down, one at a time into the

four piles again, beginning with the heart pile. This time though, you only put one card in each pile, instead of 3 as before. When you are done you should again have four piles of cards, each with 13 cards in it.

STEP FIVE - Repeat STEP THREE now, placing all the piles on top of the hearts pile in the

same manner. STEP SIX - LAYING OUT THE GRAND SOLAR SPREAD - If you have correctly completed

the previous 5 steps, the first three cards on the top of the deck should be the 3♥, A♣, and Q♣. (you can peek to make sure). The final step is to lay the cards in the Grand Solar Spread. Begin laying the cards out just as you see them in the Life Spread (Or Mundane Spread), from right to left making rows of 7 cards, until you have 7 rows of 7 cards each. The last three cards will be the Crown Line, centered at the top of the spread. If you have been successful, they should look just like the Mundane Spread in this book. Congratulations! Now, if you picked up the cards and quadrated them again, you would end up with the AGE 1 Spread. Quadrating again you would get the AGE 2 Spread, and so forth until you arrive at AGE 89, at which point the cards return to their original positions, magically.

The "Sacred Seven" - The Fixed and Semi-Fixed Cards If you study the Grand Solar Spreads for a while you will notice some peculiar patterns emerging. One of them involves seven cards that are set apart from the rest of the deck in an important way. The first three, the K♠, 8♣, and J♥, are known as the fixed cards. These three cards remain in their same positions in every spread, no matter how many times we quadrate the deck. These three have no "displacement cards" or "karma cards", as we call them, nor do they have "environment cards" for each year. People born on the birth dates of these cards exhibit a rigidity that is immediately noticeable. The 8♣ is mentally fixed and powerful. The J♥ is emotionally fixed, no one

will tell them who or how to love those in their fold. Remember that the J♥ is the "Christ card". The K♠ is the last and most powerful card in the deck, representing mastery in all ways. These people are not swayed by anyone's estimation of anything. They live by their own principles and knowledge. The other four cards, the (A♣ + 2♥) and (7♦ + 9♥), are known as the semi-fixed cards. These two pairs of cards occupy only one of two locations in the Grand Solar Spreads and never move from them. Each of these pairs is karmically linked to each other and share the karma of two life paths. In other words, you can read the Life Path cards for either and see the characteristics and meanings of them reflected in the lives of either cards. These people are almost as stubborn and strong as the three fixed cards in their personalities and lead unusual lives from most perspectives on account of the peculiarities of their Life and Yearly Spreads. For example, you will notice that the 9♥ and 7♦ each have the J♥ in Venus every other year. Since the J♥ falls in the Life Path of the 7♦ and it is fixed an immovable, each time the 9♥ or 7♦ goes back to the Venus line and Venus column, they have the J♥ there as their Venus Card. If you examine the Yearly Spreads of all these "sacred seven " cards, you will notice many such patterns as this. I have come to realize that all of these seven cards are karmically linked to each other and it is often that we find them associating with others of this special group of cards. In The Cards of Your Destiny I only give karmic bonds between the pairs of semi-fixed cards and between the three fixed cards. Now, however, I can see that these seven are all linked together by some mysterious force that needs to be recognized and kept in mind. Florence Campbell said that when any two of the fixed cards get together, they have the ability to form a karmic bond and relationship that has the power to change the world. Perhaps this is also true of the semi-fixed cards. The "Magic Circle" of 45 Cards The remaining 45 cards have their own unique relationship to each other. Remember, first of all, that these are the cards that will travel all around the various locations in the Grand Solar Spreads from birth to Age 44 and again from Ages 45 to 89. If you trace the movements of the cards from year to year you will notice some interesting patterns. One that I find very interesting is the way these 45 cards seem to form a "magic circle" when you join them together as karma cards. One of my students calls this the "path of displacement" and indeed that is what it is. The illustration on the next page shows this relationship almost better than I can describe it. Every card sits in between its two karma cards. You can look around this circle and see people you know almost as if they are cousins and distant relatives in this circle of friends. Some interesting research is being done with these cards and their significance. You might discover some interesting properties with these yourself. There are many ways of displaying these cards and this is just one. What can you discover looking at these cards with your relationships in mind?

The Magic Circle of Cards

The Solar Values of the Cards In the Mystic Test Book by Olney Richmond, he discusses the different values of the cards. Among the different types of card values are the spot values, which are just the number of the card (8♥ or 8♠ = 8, J♦ = 11), spirit values, which is a vast subject within itself, and the solar values of the cards. These various values mix and match together in many amazing and miraculous ways that Olney Richmond elaborates on in his book. One very practical and very good use of these values is to add the solar values of two different cards together to arrive at a new and usually different card.

The Card of Your Relationship For example, if you wanted to know something more about your relationship with another person, you would add the solar value of your card to the solar value of their card. If this number is greater than 52, subtract 52 from it. The resulting number will identify another card that would represent the two of you combined together, what you might do together, and how the world might see you two as a couple. Lets take an example to illustrate this. Lets say your card is an 8♣ and that of a good friend is the 10♦. Looking on the table on this page you see that the 8♣ has a solar value of 21. Likewise the 10♦has a value of 36. Adding these two together you get 57. You then subtract 52 from the 57 which leaves 5. The solar value 5 corresponds to the 5♥ card. So the 5♥ card would say a lot about the relationship between the two of you. To get a fuller understanding of the relationship and it's many aspects, look at the Life Spread of the 5♥ card as well as the basic meaning of the 5♥ card. This will assist you in doing relationship comparisons. In this example, the 5♥ means many changes in feelings. Perhaps these two people would be seen by others as constantly in flux. They might travel a great deal together or separately and would probably do a lot of social things together where they would be meeting other people.

Discovering what each person gets out of the relationship To take it a step further, add your card's solar value to the solar value of the relationship to tell how you will relate personally to the relationship and to see what you look for in the relationship. Taking our previous example a step further, we add the 8♣ solar value of 21 to the 5 of the 5♥. This gives us 26, which corresponds to the K♣ card. This K♣ says that the 8♣ person would likely be looking for some form of mental mastery and discrimination from the relationship with the 10♦. The 10♦ person gets a 2♠ from the relationship (36+5=41). This would likely mean that he or she would get someone to work with and be a partner in the greater sense of the word. The 2♠ means developing cooperation and working together and is the card of the Aquarian Age. The meanings go as deep as the people involved in the relationship.

The Cards Ruling Every Hour of the Day It was obvious that Olney Richmond knew much about the cards and their connections to our physical universe that was not fully revealed in his Mystic Test Book. If you have ever striven to read this magical book, you might feel overwhelmed and later confused as he alludes to so much and yet doesn't seem to give the entire story for many things therein. The more I read this book the more appreciation I have for what is inside. I can see now, that the information in that book makes itself available to us when we are ready. An esteemed colleague of mine, Iain McClaren-Owens, an Aquarian K♦ and long time researcher of the science of the cards and astrology, came to visit and we had a wonderful two days of sharing and exploring the wonders of The Mystic Test Book. At one point, we were concentrating all our attention on a section of the book that begins on page 292 where Olney explains how to find that cards that rule each hour of the day. We wracked our brains trying to make his formula work but didn't get the entire formula until later. After some testing, here is the formula, simplified slightly, but workable. This formula allows you to determine the card for any hour of any day. One immediate use of this formula is to determine the card for the hour of one's birth. I have found some significance to this card for myself and Katherine and likewise Iain found the similar significance for his. Eventually I hope to publish a calendar of the whole year, with all the cards for every hour of every day. Then, as events transpire, we will be able to see the correlation between these cards and the experiences of our lives and draw conclusions based upon these experiences. So, if you are ready, brace yourself and see if you can find the card for the hour of your birth! 1. The first consideration is that you must know the solar hour of your birth. For this you must add an hour if you were born during Daylight Savings Time or War Time. If you are not sure on this, call me or consult your local astrologer. Next, you should round your birth hour off to the nearest hour. So, if you are born at 11:15 am your birth hour would be 11. If you are born after noon, your birth hour would be the hour plus twelve, like military time. So, if you were born at 7:00 PM, your birth solar hour would be 7+12=19. 2. Next, you must know the numeric day of the year you were born. This means which day, from 1 to 365 or 366 on leap year, were you born on. For this, you must know about leap year. 1992 was a leap year and they occur every four years. You can count back to your birth year to determine this. The following table gives the month days that we can add to your birth day to get what day of the year you were born on. If you add the day of the month you were born on to the number given for your birth month, you will have the numeric day of the year for your birth day. If you are born on a leap year, you would add one day to this amount if you are born after February 29th.

Let's do a couple of examples to make sure we got this straight. I was born on July 3, 1953. First I want to know if I was born on a leap year so how I determine this is to subtract 1953 from 1992 which equals 39. Since 39 is not divisible exactly by 4, I know that I was not born on a leap year. However, 1952 or 1956 would be a leap year since subtracted from 1992 they equals 40 and 44 respectively which is divisible exactly by 4. Next, I take the number for July, 181 and add the day of the month, 3, to get 184 for the numeric day of the year I was born. I was born at 10:45 am Eastern Standard Time (EST). Since that is closest to 11, 11 would be the solar hour of my birth. If it had been Eastern Daylight Time, I would have added another hour to the hour of my birth to get the solar hour since Daylight Savings Time subtracts one hour from natural or solar time. 3. Now comes the fun part. Please follow closely as you do your own birth date and time. A. Take your numeric day of the year and add it to your solar hour.

B. Divide that sum by 52. Ignore the answer (the quotient) but save aside the remainder from that division and call that "X". C. Now take X and add 19 to it D. Divide the sum of X and 19, the result of Step C, by 4 E. Take the result of that division, the quotient, and add X to it. F. Now divide the sum of the quotient and X, the result of the previous step, by 5 G. The result of that division should be a number (quotient) and a remainder. There will be times when the result will only be a remainder when the result of Step E is less than 5. In this case you will have a quotient of "0" and a remainder. H. Now look at the table below to find your hour of birth card. The quotient is the number of box to look at and the remainder from Step F is the card number with that box.

This information is the same as in Olney's book. I have attempted to simplify it, but even so, it is a bit difficult. Lets take the example of someone born July 3, 1953 at 10:45 AM EST and run through it all the way to see how it works. Step A: Adding my numeric day of the year, 184, to the solar hour of birth, 11 gets us 195. Step B: Dividing that by 52 yields 3 with a remainder of 39, which we call "X" Step C: 39 + 19 = 58 Step D: 58 divided by 4 = 14 with a remainder of 2 which we ignore Step E: Add X, 39, to 14 gives us 53. Step F: Divide 53 by 5 gives us 10 with a remainder of 3

To do the rest of this procedure, you need to remember how to do Long Division. If you recall from 5th grade or so, when you divide a number, A, by another number, B, you get a third number, C. C is called the quotient. However, when B does not divide into A exactly, there will be an amount left over called the remainder. In this process we use both.

Looking in Box number 10, card number 3 is the 4♣, the card for the hour of birth in our example.

I realize that this is a complicated matter and that some of you, like myself, will not get it right the first time. However, keep doing it until you get the same results over and over again. Have a friend do it as well, just to verify your conclusions. I would be interested to hear from you as to how you relate to this hour card of your birth. Note: please do not call me and ask me to figure this out for you. Much of the value in it is derived by doing it for yourself. THE LONGITUDE OF YOUR BIRTHPLACE OR LOCATION AND HOW IT AFFECTS THE SOLAR TIME There are other matters to be aware of in calculating the hour card which Olney mentions. Each time zone has a standard meridian, a line that defines where the exact solar time is located for your time zone. If your birth location is far enough from this standard meridian, your actual solar time would be different. Of course you need to know your where the standard meridian for your birth location is located and approximately how many miles away from that standard longitude your birth place is. The correction is 4 minutes to each degree off the standard meridian. If your birthplace is west of your standard meridian, you subtract the difference in time and vice versa if you are east. Here are the standard meridian longitudes for the various time zones. These do not cover Europe or the middle east so you will have to consult with an astrologer, such as myself, if you are not born in the US.

EXCEPTION: There are certain dates and times that will produce a 13 with a certain remainder from 0 - 4 in Step F. If you run across one of these, change the 13 to a "0". So: 13 with a remainder of 1 would actually be a 0 with a remainder of 1. 13 with a remainder of 2 would actually be a 0 with a remainder or 2, and so on.

The Cards Ruling Every Hour of the Day It was obvious that Olney Richmond knew much about the cards and their connections to our physical universe that was not fully revealed in his Mystic Test Book. If you have ever striven to read this magical book, you might feel overwhelmed and later confused as he alludes to so much and yet doesn't seem to give the entire story for many things therein. The more I read this book the more appreciation I have for what is inside. I can see now, that the information in that book makes itself available to us when we are ready. An esteemed colleague of mine, Iain McClaren-Owens, an Aquarian K♦ and long time researcher of the science of the cards and astrology, came to visit and we had a wonderful two days of sharing and exploring the wonders of The Mystic Test Book. At one point, we were concentrating all our attention on a section of the book that begins on page 292 where Olney explains how to find that cards that rule each hour of the day. We wracked our brains trying to make his formula work but didn't get the entire formula until later. After some testing, here is the formula, simplified slightly, but workable. This formula allows you to determine the card for any hour of any day. One immediate use of this formula is to determine the card for the hour of one's birth. I have found some significance to this card for myself and Katherine and likewise Iain found the similar significance for his. Eventually I hope to publish a calendar of the whole year, with all the cards for every hour of every day. Then, as events transpire, we will be able to see the correlation between these cards and the experiences of our lives and draw conclusions based upon these experiences. So, if you are ready, brace yourself and see if you can find the card for the hour of your birth! 1. The first consideration is that you must know the solar hour of your birth. For this you must add an hour if you were born during Daylight Savings Time or War Time. If you are not sure on this, call me or consult your local astrologer. Next, you should round your birth hour off to the nearest hour. So, if you are born at 11:15 am your birth hour would be 11. If you are born after noon, your birth hour would be the hour plus twelve, like military time. So, if you were born at 7:00 PM, your birth solar hour would be 7+12=19. 2. Next, you must know the numeric day of the year you were born. This means which day, from 1 to 365 or 366 on leap year, were you born on. For this, you must know about leap year. 1992 was a leap year and they occur every four years. You can count back to your birth year to determine this. The following table gives the month days that we can add to your birth day to get what day of the year you were born on. If you add the day of the month you were born on to the number given for your birth month, you will have the numeric day of the year for your birth day. If you are born on a leap year, you would add one day to this amount if you are born after February 29th.

Let's do a couple of examples to make sure we got this straight. I was born on July 3, 1953. First I want to know if I was born on a leap year so how I determine this is to subtract 1953 from 1992 which equals 39. Since 39 is not divisible exactly by 4, I know that I was not born on a leap year. However, 1952 or 1956 would be a leap year since subtracted from 1992 they equals 40 and 44 respectively which is divisible exactly by 4. Next, I take the number for July, 181 and add the day of the month, 3, to get 184 for the numeric day of the year I was born. I was born at 10:45 am Eastern Standard Time (EST). Since that is closest to 11, 11 would be the solar hour of my birth. If it had been Eastern Daylight Time, I would have added another hour to the hour of my birth to get the solar hour since Daylight Savings Time subtracts one hour from natural or solar time. 3. Now comes the fun part. Please follow closely as you do your own birth date and time. A. Take your numeric day of the year and add it to your solar hour.

To do the rest of this procedure, you need to remember how to do Long Division. If you recall from 5th grade or so, when you divide a number, A, by another number, B, you get a third number, C. C is called the quotient. However, when B does not divide into A exactly, there will be an amount left over called the remainder. In this process we use both.

B. Divide that sum by 52. Ignore the answer (the quotient) but save aside the remainder from that division and call that "X". C. Now take X and add 19 to it D. Divide the sum of X and 19, the result of Step C, by 4 E. Take the result of that division, the quotient, and add X to it. F. Now divide the sum of the quotient and X, the result of the previous step, by 5 G. The result of that division should be a number (quotient) and a remainder. There will be times when the result will only be a remainder when the result of Step E is less than 5. In this case you will have a quotient of "0" and a remainder. H. Now look at the table below to find your hour of birth card. The quotient is the number of box to look at and the remainder from Step F is the card number with that box.

This information is the same as in Olney's book. I have attempted to simplify it, but even so, it is a bit difficult. Lets take the example of someone born July 3, 1953 at 10:45 AM EST and run through it all the way to see how it works. Step A: Adding my numeric day of the year, 184, to the solar hour of birth, 11 gets us 195. Step B: Dividing that by 52 yields 3 with a remainder of 39, which we call "X" Step C: 39 + 19 = 58 Step D: 58 divided by 4 = 14 with a remainder of 2, which we ignore Step E: Add X, 39, to 14 gives us 53. Step F: Divide 53 by 5 gives us 10 with a remainder of 3 Looking in Box number 10, card number 3 is the 4♣, the card for the hour of birth in our example.

I realize that this is a complicated matter and that some of you, like myself, will not get it right the first time. However, keep doing it until you get the same results over and over again. Have a friend do it as well, just to verify your conclusions. I would be interested to hear from you as to how you relate to this hour card of your birth. Note: please do not call me and ask me to figure this out for you. Much of the value in it is derived by doing it for yourself. THE LONGITUDE OF YOUR BIRTHPLACE OR LOCATION AND HOW IT AFFECTS THE SOLAR TIME There are other matters to be aware of in calculating the hour card which Olney mentions. Each time zone has a standard meridian, a line that defines where the exact solar time is located for your time zone. If your birth location is far enough from this standard meridian, your actual solar time would be different. Of course you need to know your where the standard meridian for your birth location is located and approximately how many miles away from that standard longitude your birth place is. The correction is 4 minutes to each degree off the standard meridian. If your birthplace is west of your standard meridian, you subtract the difference in time and vice versa if you are east. Here are the standard meridian longitudes for the various time zones. These do not cover Europe or the middle east so you will have to consult with an astrologer, such as myself, if you are not born in the US.

EXCEPTION: There are certain dates and times that will produce a 13 with a certain remainder from 0 - 4 in Step F. If you run across one of these, change the 13 to a "0". So: 13 with a remainder of 1 would actually be a 0 with a remainder of 1. 13 with a remainder of 2 would actually be a 0 with a remainder or 2, and so on.

The Solar Values of the Cards In the Mystic Test Book by Olney Richmond, he discusses the different values of the cards. Among the different types of card values are the spot values, which are just the number of the card (8♥ or 8♠ = 8, J♦ = 11), spirit values, which is a vast subject within itself, and the solar values of the cards. These various values mix and match together in many amazing and miraculous ways that Olney Richmond elaborates on in his book. One very practical and very good use of these values is to add the solar values of two different cards together to arrive at a new and usually different card.

The Card of Your Relationship

For example, if you wanted to know something more about your relationship with another person, you would add the solar value of your card to the solar value of their card. If this number is greater than 52, subtract 52 from it. The resulting number will identify another card that would represent the two of you combined together, what you might do together, and how the world might see you two as a couple. Lets take an example to illustrate this. Lets say your card is an 8♣ and that of a good friend is the 10♦. Looking on the table on this page you see that the 8♣ has a solar value of 21. Likewise the 10♦has a value of 36. Adding these two together you get 57. You then subtract 52 from the 57 which leaves 5. The solar value 5 corresponds to the 5♥ card. So the 5♥ card would say a lot about the relationship between the two of you. To get a fuller understanding of the relationship and it many aspects, look at the Life Spread of the 5♥ card as well as the basic meaning of the 5♥ card. This will assist you in doing relationship comparisons. In this example, the 5♥ means many changes in feelings. Perhaps these two people would be seen by others as constantly in flux. They might travel a great deal together or separately and would probably do a lot of social things together where they would be meeting other people. Discovering what each person gets out of the relationship- To take it a step further, add your card's solar value to the solar value of the relationship to tell how you will relate personally to the relationship and to see what you look for in the relationship. Taking our previous example a step further, we add the 8♣ solar value of 21 to the 5 of the 5♥. This gives us 26, which corresponds to the K♣ card. This K♣ says that the 8♣ person would likely be looking for some form of mental mastery and discrimination from the relationship with the 10♦. The 10♦ person gets a 2♠ from the relationship (36+5=41). this would likely mean that he or she would get someone to work with and be a partner in the greater sense of the word. The 2♠ means developing cooperation and working together and is the card of the Aquarian Age. The meanings go as deep as the people involved in the relationship.
