The Epiphany of the Lord (Cycle B) A Christmas Message The Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus as Messiah of

Israel, Son of God and Savior of the world. The great feast of Epiphany celebrates the adoration of Jesus by the wise men (magi) from the East, together with His baptism in the Jordan and the wedding feast at Cana in Galilee. The Lord presents Himself in a glorious way and humanity is able to experience His majestic presence. The prophet invites us to see that, although “darkness covers the earth… upon you the Lord shines” (Is 60:2). God has revealed to us His mystery, as St. Paul tells us in the second reading (Eph 3:3a). Are we able to see the ways the Lord manifests Himself to us? God is always trying to bring us to relationship with Him.

The magi bring all they have and all they are: their material gifts, yes, but also their love and generosity, a quest for answers, and their prayers and sacrifices. Everything speaks to them of Jesus, and so they offer Him everything. Let us not grow tired of going to Christ. Do not leave it for later. Like the magi, let us be on our way! God bless you!

Un mensaje de Navidad La Epifanía es la manifestación de Jesús como Mesías de

Israel, Hijo de Dios y Salvador del mundo. La gran fiesta de la Epifanía celebra la adoración de Jesús por parte de los sabios (magos) de Oriente, así como Su bautismo en el Jordán y la fiesta de bodas en Caná de Galilea. El Señor se presenta de manera gloriosa y la humanidad puede percibir Su majestuosa presencia. El profeta nos invita a ver que, aunque “las tinieblas cubren la tierra… sobre ti resplandece el Señor” (Is 60,2). Dios nos ha revelado Su misterio, como nos dice San Pablo en la segunda lectura (Ef 3,3a). ¿Podemos ver las formas en que el Señor se nos manifiesta a nosotros? Dios trata constantemente de que entremos en relación con Él.

Los magos traen todo lo que tienen y todo lo que son: sus dones materiales, sí, y también su amor y generosidad, su búsqueda de respuestas, su oración y sus sacrificios. Todo les habla de Jesús y por ello se lo ofrecen todo. No nos cansemos de ir a Cristo. No lo dejemos para más tarde. Como los magos, pongámonos en camino. Que Dios los bendiga.

The Three Wise Men According to tradition, the names of the Magi in Greek were Melchior,

Gaspar and Balthasar. Matthew, in his Gospel, tells of the question which burned in the hearts of the Magi: "Where is the infant king of the Jews?" (Mt 2: 2). It was in order to search for him that they set out on the long journey to Jerusalem. This was why they withstood hardships and sacrifices, and never yielded to discouragement or the temptation to give up and go home. Now that they were close to their goal, they had no other question than this.

You should know that in 1164 the relics of the Magi were escorted by the Archbishop of Cologne, Reinald von Dassel, from Milan, across the Alps, all the way to Cologne, where they were received with great jubilation. On their pilgrimage across Europe these relics left visible traces behind them which still live on today, both in place names and in popular devotions … here in Cologne one of the Magi has been identified as a Moorish King of Africa, so that a representative of the African Continent has been seen as one of Jesus Christ's first witnesses.

In honor of the Magi the inhabitants of Cologne produced the most exquisite reliquary of the whole Christian world and raised above it an even greater reliquary: Cologne Cathedral. Along with Jerusalem the "Holy City", Rome the "Eternal City" and Santiago de Compostela in Spain, Cologne, thanks to the Magi, has become down the centuries one of the most important places of pilgrimage in the Christian West.

Los Tres Reyes Magos

Según la tradición, en griego sus nombres eran Melchor, Gaspar y Baltasar. Mateo refiere en su Evangelio la pregunta que ardía en el corazón de los Magos: "¿Dónde está el Rey de los judíos que ha nacido?" (Mt 2, 2). Su búsqueda era el motivo por el cual emprendieron el largo viaje hasta Jerusalén. Por eso soportaron fatigas y sacrificios, sin ceder al desaliento y a la tentación de volver atrás. Ésta era la única pregunta que hacían cuando estaban cerca de la meta.

Como sabéis, en 1164, las reliquias de estos Sabios de Oriente saliendo de Milán y, escoltadas por el arzobispo de Colonia, Reinald von Dassel, atravesaron los Alpes hasta llegar a Colonia, donde fueron acogidas con grandes manifestaciones de júbilo. En su peregrinación por Europa, esas reliquias han dejado huellas evidentes, que aún hoy permanecen en los nombres de lugares y en la devoción popular… aquí en Colonia, uno de los tres Magos fue identificado como un rey negro de África, de forma que un representante del continente africano fue considerado uno de los primeros testigos de Jesucristo.

Los habitantes de Colonia fabricaron para las reliquias de los Reyes Magos el relicario más precioso de todo el mundo cristiano y, como si no bastara, levantaron sobre él un relicario mayor todavía: la catedral de Colonia. Junto con Jerusalén la "ciudad santa", con Roma la "ciudad eterna", con Santiago de Compostela en España, gracias a los Magos, Colonia se ha ido convirtiendo a lo largo de los siglos en uno de los lugares de peregrinación más importantes del occidente cristiano.

On December 17 we celebrated Elf Day. Students dressed down in their elf costumes and had a magical day.
