Week of Sept. 28-Oct. 2, 2015 Mike Lindsey, Principal The mission of the Gulfport School District is to inspire each student to become a problem solver, lifelong learner, and productive member of society. Mission Statement Leadership Opportunities! Any Sophomore interested in attending the Hugh O'Brien Leadership Camp this summer at Millsap’s College on June 3-5, please sign up outside Mrs. Walker's door. Once signed up, a packet with more details will be delivered to you. One sophomore will be selected to represent GHS at the leadership camp. GHS pays for the student to attend the conference. The GHS representative will be selected based on their resume, essay, and an interview. Ole Miss Honors, Croft, Pharmacy, and Engineering school reps will be in the library on October 20 at 8:00am-9:00am. Seniors without a first block will need to mark your calendars and come to school early to take advantage of this opportunity! Academy Day 2015 for students interested in going to one of the Military Schools is Saturday, October 10 from 8:00am -11:00pm at USM Hattiesburg in the Thad Cochran Center Student Union. This is open to all high school students 9 th – 12 th grade. Representatives from each of the branches will be available. For more information contact [email protected]. Congratulations to Rhodes Walker and John Marquez for being chosen to represent Gulfport High in the 2016 Coast Electric Youth Leadership Program. Rhodes and John will now compete against other coast schools in interviews with Coast Electric to be chosen for a trip to Washington, D.C. next summer.

Spirit Week is not just for the students!

Gulfport High School’s Marine Corp JROTC Rifle Team is at it again—Bringing home some impressive medals! On Saturday, 19 September, the Gulfport MCJROTC Rifle team traveled to Vicksburg MS, to compete in the first major shoulder-to-shoulder match of the season. The

Veteran Team consisting of Rebecca Cook, Gabrielle Phelps, Jillian Tyler, Brittany Robins, and Hunter Burnett easily defeated the 12 Veteran teams present by a large margin. The high shooter for the match was Rebecca Cook, shooting a 277 and also receiving medals for

high standing and kneeling scores. The JV team consisting of Katy Nevins, Taylor Gautier, Catia Torry, and Sarah Pierotich finished first in the Tyro Division by 50 points. The High shooter for the tyro division was Katy Nevins who also received a medal for highest prone. Taylor Gautier received a medal for highest kneeling.
