We know things are a little different than any year prior, so please bear with us as we work through all the new technology glitches, different instructional programs, and multitude of Zoom sessions! In our first issue of the new 2020-21 school year we are dedicating this to our New and Novice teachers who have joined the Gulfport High School staff. We look forward to a great year ahead and if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the school to speak to an administrator. Go Admirals!! My name is Ashley Neal. I am originally from Tuscaloosa, AL. After graduating from high school, I studied Biology at Troy University and earned my teaching certificate through the Teach Mississippi Institute. I am teaching Biology and Physical Science this year and am extremely excited to be at Gulfport High School. My name is Gena Nicholes and I graduated from Alcorn State University! I received my degree in Biology with an concentration on physical therapy. I am excited to come back to the same high school I graduated from, to teach! I’m looking forward to an AWESOME school year. Go Admirals!!

Zacharia Harris--Born in Jackson, MS. I moved to Gulfport, Mississippi in the year 2007. I graduated from Gulfport High School in 2013 and obtained my undergraduate

and master's degree in Biological Sciences from Alcorn State University in the years 2017 and 2018. I work with the Gulfport High School Admiral Band as an Assistant Colorguard Coach. This is my second year as a teacher, but my third year with the District! I am extremely thankful and excited for this opportunity to be back home working at Gulfport High!

Heath Cooper

I have been teaching and coaching for 21 years. The past 14 years have been spent in the Gulfport School District. I taught Technology Discovery and STEM at Gulfport High from 2006-2010, STEM at Bayou View Middle School from 2011-2019, and this year I will teach AP Computer Science and Exploring Computer Science.

In addition to teaching, I am an assistant coach for both the Admirals varsity basketball and cross country teams.

I have previously taught and coached at Columbus High School and Neshoba Central High School.

Cimmie Switzer I am excited to be at GHS this year and teaching English II. I have worked with students in various fields of education from pre-k programs to doctoral studies for the last 27 years. Teaching high school is my heart. Subjects I have taught in the past are: English,US Government and Economics; AP US Government, Economics, and Comparative Government: adolescent literature: field experiences; and Organizational Systems. I received my bachelors in Journalism and History form USM. I received my masters in Special Education from USM. I received my doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. My family of three all are on the GHS campus this year.

Tanya Rae Adams attended college at MGCCC and played basketball and tennis. Mrs. Adams went on to USM and earned her degree in Science and then continued earning a Master's degree in Education. Mrs. Adams is dedicated to her family: husband, Dennis, and 5 boys between them (Dylan, Hunter, London, Dalton, and Drew). She also is a caretaker for her mother who is battling terminal breast cancer and her handicapped brother, Buddy Mills, who she shares the love of sports with. Mrs. Adams has taught for ten years and has coached basketball for many years. is extremely excited about joining the best school district on the coast, Gulfport School District and excited about taking the new role as the 9th Grade Girls' basketball team and Gulfport High!
