The Active History of Canada’s First World War: A Bibliographic Resource By Sarah Glassford and Nathan Smith ActiveHistory.ca - Published: 6 December 2019 The “Canada’s First World War” series launched on ActiveHistory.ca with a Call for Blog Posts, published on 4 August 2014. It concluded in the Fall of 2019, with a total of 78 posts, including the post introducing this resource. The series editors were Mary Chaktsiris, Sarah Glassford, Christopher Schultz, Nathan Smith, and Jonathan Weier. During the five-year series run they were Ph.D. Candidates, post-graduates, and early-career professionals, all of them trained historians of the war. Many of the contributors to the series also fit this profile. They were joined by established academics, as well as non-academics. Each author is briefly profiled at the end of their post. The host for the series, Active History, is managed and edited by history professionals from across Canada. It has remained “a not-for-profit, entirely volunteer-run project” since it launched in 2009, supported in part by Huron University College at Western University and by the University of Saskatchewan. It began accepting donations to support its work in 2018, but the website contains no advertising, and authors are not paid for their contributions. This resource consists of three bibliographies, as indicated below. Also included are references to the series webpage at Active History, and to two pre-series posts which, in retrospect, seem like a prelude to the series. The bibliography’s format follows the Chicago Style for newspaper or magazine articles online.
