SEMA 2010
By Mike Rey, MOCSEM President
What an amazing experience to say the least. Anyone who is anyone was in
attendance it seemed like. To say Ford and Mustangs ruled the show is an
understatement; you could not turn your head without seeing a Mustang of some
sort. So for people like myself, it was very cool. Now if you are a huge GM or Mopar
guy, maybe not.
We had the chance to meet with a lot of Ford people, Barrett-Jackson guys, Courtney
Hansen, a lot of our sponsors, such as Pypes Exhaust, and a couple of others. To see
how one of our title sponsors, Classic Design Concepts, was represented was
amazing. I met up with George, Michelle, Patrick and the rest of the guys for a bit.
They had cars everywhere: inside, outside, in displays, videos being shot, etc.
Firebreathers were everywhere, and they had a beautiful Mustang RTR there. And of
course Vaughn Gittin, Jr.’s cars were in attendance and doing live drifts outside! We
met with a lot of hopefully potential sponsors for us, and laid a little groundwork for a
few to come on board this upcoming year, and got a lot of hopeful contacts to follow
up with.

About the Club
The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan (MOCSEM) was founded in November 1975 by a group of individuals with
the desire to protect and preserve the Ford Mustang as one of the most attractive and fun filled cars ever made available. We
are enthusiasts of all ages with a love affair of the many generations of America’s Premiere Pony Car. Whether it’s a coupe,
convertible or fastback from 1964½ to the 2005 GT or the 2007 Cobra, we love them all. The mission of club members is to
collect, restore and preserve the history of the Mustang along with the stories of the people and the roles that they played in
making this one of the great cars of the 20th Century. Although ownership is not a requirement for membership, your
enthusiasm, expertise and and/or love of the automobile are most welcome.
Many of our club members own one or more Mustangs in varying body styles, models and years. Club members are always
exchanging information, providing sources for parts, literature and helpful hints for restoring or maintaining their Mustangs. Our
members are a diverse group of individuals, located throughout Southeastern Michigan and all share a great appreciation for the
Ford Mustang. Our general membership meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Our monthly newsletter,
The Accelerator, provides the members with reports on club activities, technical information, advertisements and business
service locations and more. Some club activities include car shows, picnics, sporting events, cruise nights and technical
sessions.

Well it’s December and I hope everyone had a wonderful
Thanksgiving. Now let the snow begin! But then again, I would
rather it be sunny and 70. But enough about me. I would just
like to start off by thanking the members for having the faith
in me as your Social Director for yet another year. I had a
blast this year and hope to have a even better 2011.
I’m thinking ahead and looking into events in January and the
Social Committee and I are setting up a comedy night also
known as “Grub and Grins.” The event is tentatively
scheduled for Saturday, January 22nd at Joey’s in Livonia. I’ll
announce details just as soon as they are finalized.
So on to February. We are planning again this year to have a
club Valentine party at Tim & Sally’s Awesome Eats in Canton.
The price for this event is $10.00 per person which includes
a buffet dinner, soft drinks and tea. The date for this event is
February 12th from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. If you would like to
attend this event you can sign up at www.mocsem.com or at
the December and January General Meetings. Payment is
needed by the February 8th General Meeting.
If you have any questions about these or other events please
feel free to contact me. Have a great holiday!

I ran across Chip Foose as usual. If some of you don't know
this, Chip is my all time Idol. The guy is simply a genius. But
some of the best time spent there was with Dr. Spiegel and
his wife, and Mark & Pat from the Dream Giveaway
Sweepstakes. We got to see firsthand the 1969 Boss 302
that is part of the sweepstakes this coming year along with a
2012 Boss still being built and should be completed
sometime in February 2011. Please remember these cars will
be presented to the winner at Mustang Memories 2011 at
the Ford World Headquarters on August 7th, 2011. This year
the cars are TAX FREE to the winner, so please go to our web
site and buy as many tickets as your wallet can afford and
support these amazing people. The Healing Heroes Network
is an amazing network to help out wounded soldiers fighting
for our beloved country.
I am including some photos from SEMA for your viewing
pleasure. We also got a chance to take the tour at Shelby
while in Las Vegas. Simply amazing!
I would also like to let you know that I am already deep into
planning for Mustang Memories 2011, I have a couple of very
big things on the table that I am working on. Nothing is set in
stone yet, but not for my lack of effort. The annual Swap Meet
is also just around the corner. It is scheduled for Saturday
March 26, 2011 at Village Ford in Dearborn. See everyone
soon.

MOCSEM Wins MCA President’s Award
By Craig Zygmunt, MOCSEM Editor
MOCSEM is proud to be one of this year’s recipients of the
Mustang Club of America’s President’s Award. The
President’s Award is presented to MCA regional clubs that
demonstrate “outstanding achievement and devotion to the
Mustang hobby and service to the community…” There are
approximately 190 MCA regional clubs, 22 of which received
this award.
Eligibility for the award is based on points which can be
earned in several categories, including new members,
hosting car shows, publishing a newsletter and donations to
charities. 100 points are required to be eligible for the award
and MOCSEM scored 380. We are very proud of the
contribution we make as a club to the Mustang hobby and
the relationship we have with the national MCA and are
looking to strengthen both even more in the coming year.
Mustang Memories Featured in
Auto Trader Classics Mustang & Ford
By Craig Zygmunt, MOCSEM Editor
MOCSEM got some great press about its Mustang Memories
show in Auto Trader Classics Mustang & Ford magazine. The
article features a great description of the club, the show and
features information about Joe and Lilly Errante's 1965
Mustang. It's a great article and definitely worth a read. Many
thanks to MOCSEM member Mark Storm for getting this to
us. You can read the article online at www.mocsem.com.
We'll also have copies of the magazine available at the
December General Meeting.
MOCSEM Club Display at Detroit AutoRama
By Craig Zygmunt, MOCSEM Editor
MOCSEM is planning to apply for a club display at the 2011
Detroit AutoRama February 25 – 27 at Cobo Center. The 4
MOCSEM members who participated last year made a great
showing by taking two 3rd place and one 1st place class
awards.
If you are interested in
participating, you will need to
submit your entry form to Mike
Rey. You must include photos
and a $50 check for the
sanction fee (payable to Detroit
Autorama) with your entry. You
can obtain an entry form by
visiting www.autorama.com or
www.mocsem.com. The entry
form describes what photos are
necessary.
All club entries will be submitted together. The Autorama
show chairman will choose the vehicles that will participate.
MOCSEM has no say in who is chosen. If you are not
selected, your entry form with your check will be returned to
you.
Bring Your Toys to the
December General Meeting
By Craig Zygmunt, MOCSEM Editor
No, I don't mean your Mustangs. Bring some toys for Toys for
Tots! That's right, the favorite charity for kids of all ages will
be at the MOCSEM General Meeting on Tuesday,
December 14th to collect toys for children in need. Bring a
new, unwrapped toy and help a child enjoy Christmas a little
more this year. MOCSEM will also present monetary
donations to representatives from numerous Southeastern
Michigan charities at the meeting. The success of Mustang
Memories has allowed us to be generous when so many
people are in need.

Thumper
By Ron Mason, MOCSEM Member
I'm Ron Mason and here is the story of my sixth Mustang, Thumper:
I named the car "Thumper" to honor my dad and a car he had back in
the Sixties. I took delivery of this car on January 31, 2008. I ordered
it built for me to replace my 2006 Mustang Pony. Thumper got off to
a very scary start. You see, when I ordered it my dealer told me I
would have it in six weeks. Two days later Ford released the Mustang
Bullet and well, my car got put back a bit. Not that it’s that long a wait
but she came in misbuilt too. Even with all of that I enjoy the car so
much.
The day I picked the car up, I took the grill off to put the new Pony
emblem on it and my wife, like usual, thought I was crazy. It snowed
four inches that night I wasn't able to drive it for a while so every mod
I had to have done got put on before it had 10 miles on it. Some of
my mods include Navy blue stripes, 20" Foose wheels, Flowmaster
mufflers, Hurst shifter, and Shaftmasters one-piece driveshaft. There
is so much enjoyment with this car the cruises, cruise-ins and even
hitting the drag strip but it has almost by accident turned into a show
car. I was lucky enough to be accepted to this year’s Autorama and
took 3rd in my class.
One of the best things about owning my car is the fact I get to remain
a member of MOCSEM, to me is the people in the club, the board we
have and the work everyone does to make our Mustang club not only
a car club but a family environment. I'm very thankful for that.

ready, HD ready, Bluetooth), Windows tinted 25% on doors,
5% in rear., Premium Mach speakers, Viper Alarm system.
There are things that will need to be fixed: Coil packs need to
be replaced, the transmission has always been a bit touchy
with occasional slight grind when shifting from 2nd to
3rd..most likely the synchros, the body kit pieces need to be
repainted, side skirts and wheel wells show wear, and the
front fascia has paint flaking from a terrible prep job. The
headers are a tad rusty and will need to be replaced. All in all,
this car still drives very well and has been a blast to drive. I
had been meaning to fix everything myself, however with a
less than ideal job and school I can no longer keep this guy.
New on car includes tires, which were purchased in January
with great tread still, new battery, oil and fluids changed at
58k along with spark plugs (Royal Purple 5w-30, synchromax
for trans and Motorcraft SP-493s for plugs). The
stereo/subs/amp are brand new, I put those in when I bought
this in December. Price is $7000 OBO, Will make special deal
with any MOCSEM member. I am open to fair offers. More
pictures available upon request. Contact Nick at
734.895.9221 after 6pm weekdays.
