The godfather came out in 1972.Its an American crime film, directed by Francis ford coppola.The god father was one of the greatest films in the world cinema, especially for gang genre.It was filmed all around New York city.It won the academy award for best picture.

Fashion trends and style

O The style in the seventies were quite different then now. Popular things to wear were bandanas, bell bottom jeans, platform shoes, tie die shirts, tank tops larger glasses, custom t-shirts and crop tops.

O Hair styles were spiked up hair, THE MULLET, and longer hair for men.

O In the late seventies disco style starting to become more and more popular, including the zipped jump suit, tube tops and leotard’s.

• Major tv shows that came out that most people still hear about today are Sesame Street, Saturday Night Live, the Brady Bunch and Happy Days.

• Hank Aaron hit his 715th home run thus beating babe Ruth's world record.

• Another important sporting event in the 1970’s was secretariat winning the triple crown in horse racing.

RICHARD NIXON AND HIS SCANDAL• Richard Nixon won the election by a

landslide.• He was also a part of the Watergate scandal.• Richard Nixon was almost impeached but

before that could happen he stepped down from office.

• During the investigation of the Watergate scandal it was revealed that president Nixon had a tape recording system in his office to record many conversations.

fascinating political figures of the twentieth century.

• He was almost the first president to be impeached.

• He also lied about doing illegal actions and recording conversations with important officials that were meant to be held secret and never repeated.

USA pulls out of Vietnam and brings home the troops in 1973.

President Nixon steps down from office in 1973 also.

The sears tower was constructed in 1973.Tragedy in Ohio strikes when the Kent state

university shooting broke out, there was four deaths and four seriously injured. The shooting

was done by the national guard against protesters from the Vietnam war protesters.

CIVIL RIGHTSThrough affirmative action,

attempts were made in the 1970’s to equalize the educational, employment and contracting opportunities for minorities and women so that they were equivalent to there white male counter parts. This was based on the civil rights act of 1964 and equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment.

• In the supreme court cases roe vs. wade the rights of women were once again furthered when a women “rights to privacy” won out over the fetal “right to life”. that the ruling struck down state laws outlawing abortion and allowed abortions ion the first trimester or first three months of the pregnancy. After the first three months of the pregnancy abortions were aloud to safe guard the women's health.

O The American Indian Movement [A.K.A. AIM] held protest against the government trying to gain there fair treatment and there tribal land back. The project got so big it drew attention from the FBI and the CIA, it ended in a shooting tragedy killing two people, wounding twelve and twelve hundred were arrested the trials lasted for eight months in a Minnesota court.

Economy• The 1970’s had a great inflation which decreased

the value of money. The stock market was a mess and lost 40% in an eighteen month period.

• After this happened for almost a decade people wanted nothing to do with the stock market.

• Interest rates went up 20%.• Average salary was $9,350.• The average house cost $26,600.• The average dependable new car was $3,900.

Average every day life in the 70’s

Average life of the seventies was the father was working late nights at the factory or major business place of the area, mother stayed at home to take after the kids, a lot of protest’s about civil rights, equality and wars. They all wanted the best life that money could buy. America’s streets were a lot safer place and police officers were very laid back compared to today.
