Church Online is another way in which we can watch our livestream services on Sunday mornings. We

invite you to check it out and see if you like it better than Facebook or YouTube. This is a free platform that anyone can access and watch on Sundays. It has the live chat like Facebook has, but has some additional features. One of those features is “live

prayer” requests. Click the “live prayer” button, and a host from Bethany will join you in “chat” prayer that the rest of the community does not see. You are welcome to continue watching on Facebook or YouTube if you prefer, but try the Church Online

platform and tell us what you think of it. To find it, go to https://bethanychurchredlion.online.church/

Sunday Morning Worship

We are currently providing three “live” Sunday morning worship services. There is a Downtown Fellowship Service (Contemporary) that can be viewed live at 9 AM and also a Traditions Service, also live, at 10:30 AM on Facebook, YouTube, and Church Online. These services can also be viewed later on Facebook, YouTube, or on our Bethany Church Website. You are not able to view past services on Church Online. Type in these links in your browser to find (you can also click on the links in our weekly Bethany Blast):

Facebook Page – www.facebook.com/BethanyRedLion/ (please note, this has changed!) YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbIYsXnXUbZWpd3IAtKK7fg

Church Online – https://bethanychurchredlion.online.church/

Do you have more time now and need to be encouraged? Consider joining one of our online Bible Studies. It is a great way to stay in touch with people and with God. You do not even need a computer to join in – you can join in by phone (provided you

have unlimited long-distance calling ). We have also helped

people with very limited knowledge of computers get into our Bible Studies. Currently, we are offering these Bible Studies:

Wednesday Evening: Women on Wednesday – led by Terry Moran Men’s Fraternity – led by Pastor Mark Pastor’s Bible Study – led by Pastor Ron Thursday Afternoon Group – led by Pastor Ron

See the description of what each group is covering, and then email the leader of the group you would like to join. You can also join by calling the church office.

You can still send us your prayer requests. Call Jen in the church office,

click on the “Prayer Requests” picture in The Blast, or click on “Send Us Your

Request” in the “Need Prayer?” section of our website,

www.bethanyredlion.com. You’ll just need to complete the online form.

Watch your email for a special “Prayer Blast” on Tuesdays.

Bethany Kids are making the best of this time at home. Some are hatching butterflies, hiking, raising chicks, snuggling pets, making art…the list could go on and on. God blesses us in every situation. Children help us to slow down and enjoy the beauty all around us.

Where have you seen God this month?

Pick-up bags with craft supplies are available for the kids joining Bethany Street Kids Friday Zoom Meetings. Please contact Miss Tami (717) 244-7624 for pick up information. We would love to have your child join us for Bible study,

skits, science connection, and crafts.

We will be moving VBS online this summer. We will work on one day of VBS each week, starting July 13th - August 14th. With the current conditions changing, we are planning on providing each child with a VBS kit which will include a shirt, the imagination station gadgets, and supplies to work along with us in zoom. The Skits, Sing and Play, Bible Adventures, KidVid Cinema, Imagination Station, and Rocky Wrap-Up will be presented with a variety of online resources including Facebook Live, taped videos shared on Facebook and ClassDojo. We will have Zoom meetings every Friday. Please continue to register at vbspro.events/p/51377e.

Mark (3:20) Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered,

so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. (3:21) When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, "He is out of his mind."

The MSG translates it as "They suspected he was getting carried away with himself." Whether they thought Jesus was crazy or just full of himself, his family was concerned about his behavior and came to knock some sense into him. It doesn't record the discussion, but we see that Jesus keeps on going. The Pharisees are not so generous. They accuse him of having a demon. When we do God's work, we will get accused of all sorts of things. Our family might think that we are crazy. Yet, how often do we live our faith strongly enough to be accused of being crazy

or a religious nut? No, we are not supposed to act "crazy" for Jesus, but we are to live our lives for him no matter what other people think or say. What does it mean for me to live daily for Jesus? What might he call me to do? Prayer - Jesus, may I live for you in such a way that people may come to know you more. May I reflect your life in mine.

Stay Grounded in God, Connected to each other, Reaching out to help others,

Pastor Ron

During Lent, we encouraged our congregation to BLESS the life of one person who may not know God and the blessing of living in relationship with him. As a reminder, B is for Be in prayer. Prayer

has no limits on how far away we are from a person. L is for Listen. Now more than ever, we need to listen to one another more. E is for Eat.

Until we are able to gather with people again, this E can stand for Encourage. S is for Serve. Find a

way to serve this person with a need that they have. And the last S is for Share. Share how Jesus Christ has made a difference in your life. This last one cannot be “forced,” but with the right timing and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, can have a powerful impact on the other person’s life. If the

person is not receptive to your sharing, just trust that God is using you to plant some seeds.

We have now shifted our goal from BLESSing one person through Lent to BLESSing four people for each of us until next Easter – April 4, 2021. Therefore, for the whole congregation, we would

like to BLESS a total of 800 people by next Easter. Once we are back to worshipping in the building, we will be tying ribbons on a wire tree with lights to represent the number of people that God is reaching through us. Please be in prayer about who God is wanting to bless through you

and get started in being a blessing to others.

Last summer, as we worked through Hebrews Chapters 1 - 3, we learned that the book of Hebrews is full of comparisons with Jesus. The author of Hebrews goes through many different categories of offices and saying, “Yes, these are great, but Jesus is greater.” Or, to put it another way, “Christ Is Superior Over All.” Our sermon series described Jesus as the Son of God and therefore greater than kings, prophets, and angels. All of these categories are relatively familiar to us. We know what kings are, and we’re familiar with the idea of spokespeople and angels. This summer will lead us into the description of Jesus as the Great High Priest.

So, what does it mean that Jesus is a Great High Priest? Think of those pictures in study Bibles of the priestly garments described in the Old Testament. Does Jesus being a priest mean He wore a silly looking hat? Probably not. Priests were in charge of representing the nation of Israel to God and representing God to the people. They served as mediators. Because of the nation’s sinfulness, they would be in charge of making sacrifices on behalf of the people so that they could enter into God’s presence. They were worship directors, leading the people in worshiping and serving God in the way that God prescribed. Jesus was our great high priest because He made the sacrifice that our sins deserve. Jesus is our great high priest in His current intercession for our souls. He stands with us before the throne of grace perfecting our worship.

Join us this summer (June 7th - August 16th) as we unpack the meaning of Jesus being our High Priest and we learn to walk more closely with our all-sufficient Savior!

Love the music provided during the Downtown Fellowship Mid-Week Worship by Dustin Miller & Ben Williams!

What a blessing to hear two beautiful voices blended during a recent Traditions Livestream service. Many thanks to Samantha Reynolds & Laura Rudacille!

Thank you to Kelly Henshaw and Chad & Parker Keiser for all their hard work painting and removing the old carpet in Downtown Fellowship. These guys have done a fantastic job. You won’t believe how beautiful the worship area is now! Can’t wait to see the new carpet installed!

Julie Beard, and her beautiful granddaughter, Wella Nightingale, have been practicing Yoga and enjoying their time together!

Jeff & Jane Love have been practicing Social Distancing. They even used a measuring tape to make sure they are 6’ apart! 😊

... WHAT HAD I BEEN THINKING….?

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be

called the children of God!” 1John 3:1 NIV

Have you ever had one of those phone calls in the middle of the

night where you know the news is going to be bad and you have to hear it

anyway? I guess the difference between me and Mary is, she knew. She was there.

She saw it. She heard it. She lived it. She watched her son be tortured, wounded,

bleed, and eventually die.

I wasn’t with my dad when he died. He was all but gone by the time I had

arrived. Fortunately, my last words were the night before when I was with him and

told him I loved him just before I left. I’m sure Mary shared those same words with

her son. In those final moments, she was there. I wasn’t. I remember saying to

my girlfriends, why didn’t you tell me this was going to be so hard? Why was I so

surprised? If my father had a chance to speak to me again, I believe he would remind me that he lived

to die, to do God’s work then go to be with his Heavenly Father. That’s what his whole life had been

about, just like Jesus.

Families are designed to give and take, push and pull, sacrifice and share. Being in God’s family

is the same way. If we can think of Jesus as a brother and God as our father, then experiencing life

with them shouldn’t be so hard, or so surprising, but more about living and sharing in life’s

experiences. God isn’t so far away that we can’t talk to Him. Jesus knows what we’re going through.

And the Holy Spirit is close enough to guide us. What more could we ask for? The family is actually

quite large you know when you consider all of the brothers and sisters we have on earth to share our

joys and concerns with.

Prayer - Father God ~ May we realize how important we are to one another, that we should give or

take, push or pull or sacrifice for one another as the Trinity has done for us. Let us yearn to live your

example while yet we have breath. Amen.

Michal (Doverspike) Buchanan - Daughter of Pastor C. Leroy Doverspike

Wednesday Evening (6 PM) – Women on Wednesday – (What the Women Saw on June 3rd; will not meet June 10th) – Led by Terry Moran. Contact Terry @ to participate. A new study, PSALM 23 by Jennifer Rothschild, begins June 17th. The Lord is my shepherd; I

shall not want. Many women know Psalm 23 by heart but haven’t experienced its power in their lives. This beloved psalm can breathe new life into women who are weary and unsure of their next steps. It’s more than a psalm that comforts in death; it gives confidence in life. In this 7-session study by Jennifer Rothschild, gain fresh insight and encouragement from Psalm 23. Explore the depths of God’s compassionate care while debunking the self-reliance myth. Learn how

your vulnerability is not a liability because you can trust the Shepherd’s goodness throughout each season of life.

Wednesday Evening (4 PM) – Pastor’s Bible Study – Led by Pastor Ron. On Wednesday, June 3rd, we are starting a study on Colossians by Lou Giglio. In this 8-session series, Louie Giglio will take us through the book of Colossians to help us form a complete picture of Jesus. What we believe about Him influences everything from our corporate worship to our relationships to our attitude toward sin. Now alive in Christ, we can live a life worthy of God instead of falling back into the ways of the world. You can view on RightNow Media if you miss a session. Contact Pastor Ron to participate.

Wednesday Evening (6 PM) – Men’s Fraternity – The Grace of God & Flaws of Men – Led by Pastor Mark. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob stand towering among Old Testament leaders. They have always been celebrated for their faith, obedience, and accomplishments. But to only see their success without also seeing their flaws would alter the central message of the Bible—humans are sinners, and it is the grace of God that saves and transforms them through Christ Jesus. In this Bible study based on his book, Anand Mahadevan takes a fresh, true perspective on the lives of

these three heroes and their many failures that will leave you captivated by the beauty, patience, and transforming power of God’s grace. Contact Pastor Mark to participate. Thursday Afternoon (1 PM) – Believe – Led by Pastor Ron. Our Thursday Afternoon Bible Study will be continuing a study by Lou Giglio called “Believe.” Fear and anxiety fuel so many in our world today and can be debilitating in our darkest of days. Yet, Christ calls us to be rooted in faith, standing on His promises and truth to get us through. Fear and faith cannot occupy the same space, so we lift our gaze to Jesus and praise takes over the darkness, bringing light

and life as we lift our hands to believe. He is with us, our refuge and strength. Faithful, forever. Even in the darkest night of the soul, there is always a song to sing. You can view on RightNow Media if you miss a session.

Bethany Church has purchased a subscription for RightNow Media

for the purpose of training leadership and volunteers and providing

on-going Bible Study materials. What is really exciting is that the

whole congregation (members, attendees, and anyone associated with Bethany) will have access to the RightNow

Media website. There are literally more than 10,000 videos to choose from. It works much like Netflix, and there is no

additional cost to you. Some of what it includes: training videos, children's TV programs, Bible Studies, Christian

Conferences, Leadership Material, and so much more. We can use these online Bible Study courses here at the church;

and if a person misses a class, they can view it at home any time they want. You can also use the Bible Studies as an

individual, couple, family, or Bible Study group in your own home. Please visit

https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Account/Invite/BETHANYUMC and complete your profile to sign up. You can also

text “RIGHTNOW BETHANYUMC” to 41411 to register. If you have any questions, please contact the church office.

Opening of the Church

With York County moving into the Yellow

Phase, Bethany Church is still not able to

worship in the church building on Sunday

morning, due to being limited to only allowing

25 people in the building. We probably will not

be gathering in the sanctuary for worship until

we are in the green phase. We will still

continue to offer online worship through

Church Online, Facebook and YouTube.

Please go to our website

(https://www.bethanyredlion.com/) if you

need instructions on how to do this. The

Trustees are looking into the possibility of

opening the church for smaller group

gatherings (25 or less) and guidelines for each

group to follow. We will let you know how

soon that is possible. There are many details

we need to work out yet. If your group would

like to start meeting at the church again,

please contact the church office to let us

know of your interest in doing this. As a

reminder if you are coming to the church for

any reason, you will need to wear a mask and

keep social distancing guidelines (at least 6

feet apart).

In recognition of Charlie and Vicky Salisbury’s Ministry As many of you know, as of July 1st, Pastor Charlie Salisbury will no longer be our District Superintendent. After eight years of faithful service to the York District, he will be going back into pastoral ministry. Vicky, his wife, also served as Administrative Assistant for several years. For those who do not know “Pastor Charlie,” he also served as pastor here at Bethany for many years. His wife, Vicky,

served as choir director as well. In recognition of his eight years of service, the York District Committee of Superintendency has recommended these two ways in which to honor Pastor Charlie and Vicky. 1) Donate to the Preacher’s Aid Society in honor of Pastor Charlie and Vicky. Please post in the Memo of the check that it is “in honor of Charles and Vicky Salisbury.”

Preachers Aid Society P. O. Box #24 Williamsport, PA 17703-0024

2) Send a thank you card to their home. If there is another way in which you would like to honor and thank Charlie and Vicky, please feel free to do so.

The need for transportation is growing within our church family. If you

can help someone occasionally with transportation to church, doctor

appointments, grocery store, etc….please contact Pastor Larry Parlett

or Jen in the church office (717/244-7624).

The Grab ‘n Go Sub/ Sandwich Sale for June has been cancelled.

In an effort to make people aware of the resources available to those suffering from any form of mental illness, two notebooks filled with information have been placed in the church. One is on the Information Table in Downtown Fellowship, and the other is on the Hospitality Table outside the East doors to the sanctuary.

The information in the notebooks comes from NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Statistics show that 20% of youth ages 13 - 18 live with a mental health issue and that suicide is the second leading cause of death in youth ages 10 - 24. With those statistics in mind, we need to familiarize ourselves with signs and symptoms of mental illness and understand that there are resources available to receive help if needed.

The Missions Committee continues to sell Giant, Weis Markets, and Jerry’s Great Valu Gift Certificates as a

fundraiser for Bethany’s mission obligations. By purchasing the certificates, you are not only doing your grocery shopping but also supporting your

church. Everyone has to eat; and if you shop at Giant, Weis, or Jerry’s, this is a win-win! Giant Gift Cards can also be used at the gas pumps. See Jen in the Church

Office to purchase. Several denominations are available ($100, $50, $25, $20, $10). You can even have a standing order each week. Just let Jen know

what you would like. The Missions Committee thanks you for your support in this fundraiser!

Hello Bethany Church!

This past year I came upon a great missions opportunity through LifePath Christian Ministries.

Corners of Your Field is a partnership opportunity between local churches and LifePath Christian Ministries. Corners of Your Field encourages attendees of our partner churches to be intentional about selecting their gently used household items as a donation to LifePath Thrift Stores. The stores then return a portion of the value of these items in the form of gift cards to your church to help those directly in your care.

The above statement is taken from the LifePath website. When you make a donation of gently used items to their thrift stores, you can link your name to Bethany UMC, Red Lion. By doing that, the donations, etc. are kept track of, and LifePath gift cards will be sent to the church quarterly. These can then be given to those in need of clothing etc. Bethany Church information is already in their system. Just ask them to link your donation to Bethany Church, Red Lion. What a great and easy way to help our community. Questions? Contact Kelly Chronister.

What is the meal ministry? When a member of our church family is walking through a storm….maybe a surgery, an injury, a sick child, a loved

one’s passing, or some other unexpected stressful event, our team is there helping to choreograph a delicious meal. The receiving individual (or family) is so very grateful for a meal as it gives them one less thing to worry about for that day.

If you feel God tapping on your shoulder saying you can do this, we welcome you with open arms to be part of this fabulous team. You don’t need a culinary degree, just a heart that can prepare a simple meal, for someone who will appreciate every bite. To join our team, call Jere at (717) 244-7624.

Thank you to our Meal Ministry team for all you do and the love you share!

At this time, the Medical Equipment Lending Warehouse remains closed.

To my Dear Friends of Bethany, I want to thank all of you for the beautiful Birthday and other cards and the

lovely notes written on them. Also for the phone calls I have received. I’m grateful also to Pastor Larry for bringing me the new church Pictorial Book and for the Book of Barry’s prayers. They’re wonderful. Also for Pastor Ron’s kindness to me. And I cannot forget Fred who sees I get to church when able and those who take me home. And many thanks to George for my way to and from choir rehearsals. I miss it. May God Bless you all for your kindness to me. -Mary Strine Dear Friends in Mission, Thank you for your donations to UMCOR (US & International Disaster Response & Recovery) and Unalaska UMC Outreach & Community Ministry. Bethany’s God’s People in Mission, along with volunteers from St. Paul’s UMC, Zion UMC (Red Lion), Emmanuel UCC, and Zion UMC (Freysville), have continued to offer a community dinner for people in our area who need a hot meal. It is held at St. Paul’s UMC on First Avenue the second Monday of each month. Boy Scout Troop #28 also helps serve and clean up. We are in need of volunteers to be on standby each month or when it is Bethany’s turn to prep and serve the meal, purchase food, bake desserts, and fellowship during the meal. For more information, please see Jared Olsen or Karen Oswald. There will be sign-up sheets

throughout the church. Your help, as always, is greatly appreciated! At this printing, no decision has been made about serving the June meal.

Church Directories are Here!

Church Directories may be picked up in the Church Office Monday – Thursday (8 AM – 4 PM). If you had your picture taken for the directory, there is no charge. Directories may be purchased for $10/each.

Online giving is so much more than just online! Our giving tools provide the ability to donate on our website (www.bethanyredlion.com) or The Blast, through a mobile app (search for Easy Tithe in your App Store), from our Giving Kiosk (located outside the church office), and Text Giving. After creating an account, you are able to give a donation or schedule a series of donations (scheduling not available for text giving) directed from your checking account or debit/credit card. How to Contribute by Text: ➢ Please send a text message with the dollar amount in

the text (example: $20) to Bethany’s text giving phone number ~ 717/801-1430.

➢ If this is your first time using Text Giving, after texting the dollar amount, you will receive a message saying “please complete this one-time registration to submit your gift.” You will need to complete this one-time registration even if you have already set up online or mobile giving.

➢ A secure short form will either be presented or you will need to tap to open the form and fill in your billing information. ➢ Tap the “GIVE” button to submit. ➢ After this one-time billing setup is completed, giving is as easy as sending a text message. Please try it out! We hope you will find this a convenient and easy way to give!

Many of you get this and more just by using your credit card. Along with our current weekly envelope system and Giving Kiosk options, we are also able to take credit cards in our office – and you can even authorize weekly or monthly charges (you just need

to fill out a short form for us [found below]). You can even use your bank check card. You can also set up automated withdrawals from your checking account through your bank’s Bill Pay.
