MESSAGE FROM THE HEADMISTRESS

“In the realm of ideas everything depends on enthusiasm... in the real world all rests on perseverance.” Dear readers, As you go through the ‘FRANSALIAN PULSE’ I am sure you will agree with me that the young enthusiasts through their perseverance have left no stone unturned to make it yet another masterpiece under the able guidance of Ms. Ritu and Ms. Shweta. Heartiest congratulations to you, dear students. A word of appreciation to all the parents too who helped and guided the students and sent the articles on time. “Courage is like love; it must have hope for nourishment.” – Napoleon Bonaparte In these times of lockdowns and unlock downs we have learnt many lessons. Though at times we felt gloomy and disappointed, the light of hope has helped us to see the brighter side of the situations. The virtue of hope challenges us and empowers us to be determined, unyielding and steadfast. Hope is not wishful thinking or being inert. It means intentional, purposeful living. We live hopeful lives. . Pope Francis has said “Let us live in the joyful hope of reciprocating to our brothers and sisters, through what little we can, the abundance we receive from God each day. So dear friends let us live on hope and bring hope in the life of all those who come in our lives and be grateful to God for the blessings that we receive and are able to be the blessing to others. May our courage be nourished by our hopes. Stay safe.

Sr. Sarala, Headmistress

FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK

Dear Readers

Greetings to all!

It is said’ “Small steps in the right direction can turn out to be the biggest step of your life.” We at SFS have always tried to make small efforts that make a big difference in everyone’s life.

It is indeed a moment of great pride and honour as we bring out the third edition of our E-magazine for the readers of all ages and stages. This edition acts as a launch pad for the children's creative urges to blossom naturally. As the saying goes, "mind is like a parachute that

works best when opened". The magazine has given a platform to think, imagine and express freely. The topics such as My Favourite Tourist Spot, Friends Forever, My Home- Virtual SFS, Teacher’s Day have given them the opportunity to be oneself. While we are still adapting ourselves in this virtual world, our young writers have created a world of beauty in words with their enthusiastic write ups.

We believe that our success depends upon our power to perceive, power to observe and the power to explore. Topics like Missile Man of India, Man Lands on the Moon, International Literacy Day, What Freedom Means To Me? and many more have allowed the budding minds to roam freely in the realm of imagination as well as learn the art of being aware.

The articles are indubitably sufficient to hold the interest and admiration of the readers.

We take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for your valuable contribution and relentless efforts in bringing out this work of excellence.

So it’s time to stir your mind and take yourself to the surreal world of unalloyed joy and pleasure. Happy Reading !!!

Ms. Ritu Kalra & Ms. Shweta Crowther

National Nutrition Week (NNW)

by Aadvik Aggarwal – 2 IRIS

NNW is observed to make the people aware about nutrition and its importance. NNW is observed in the country from 1982 from 1st September to 7th

September every year.

Nutrition is very important for the human body as well as many other living beings because everyone can carry their work properly and accurately.

There are many children especially in India who are malnourished and require a better diet for their body growth.

Every year NNW organizations try to make families aware about how much nutrition is required to make the body healthy and strong.

Teachers’ Day by Tashvi Ray – 5 TULIP

A teacher is a friend, philosopher and guide who holds our

hand, opens our mind and touches our heart. The

contribution of a teacher cannot be ignored at all. In many

countries across the world, teacher's day is a special day

when teachers are honored. The date varies from country to

country. The universally accepted World Teacher's Day is on

5th October. In India, the Teacher's Day is celebrated on 5th

September and this tradition started from 1962. On this date,

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born. He was a

philosopher, scholar, teacher and a politician. His dedicated

work towards education made his birthday an important day

in the history of India. Teachers have been the architect of

the society and without them no society can walk in the path

of progression.

My Teacher

I came into your class

To learn & to grow

To guide, to support us.

I have learned to count –

My blessings and to build a brighter

Future with knowledge from the class.

I want to thank you for being

A caring second mother.

I want to thank you for being

A guide and a mentor.

I want to thank you just for

Helping me out.

For motivating me and melting

Away my doubts and sadness.

Thank you…

My Home – Virtual SFS by Samar Pratap Raghav – 2 ORCHID

I had just started my 2nd class in April 2020 but couldn’t go to school and meet my new classmates and teachers due to the spread of coronavirus. My school started online classes from 7th July and it has been a wonderful experience since then. I am getting my education in the safe environment of my home. Now my home has become a virtual school as I am connected via electronic platform in the form of Google classroom and Google meet. My father got a new laptop for me and installed a wi-fi connection.

I feel so happy looking at my teachers after such a long time. They explain every line of the chapter so well. They make us understand every concept and give us time to complete our written work. It feels as if I am sitting in the classroom. Ma’am doesn’t allow us to chat with my classmates. I keep my stationery and notebooks ready on the table before the class starts.

During this time, I have learnt to use Google classroom and Google meet. I really enjoy studying online.

My Home – Virtual SFS by Ayaan Loomba – 3 TULIP

Virtual classes are like a blessing in this difficult time of COVID-19.

I admire my teachers for making us study and learn in this joyful manner. Just like at school, we still get to study in a full swing, under the care of our teachers and parents. We meet our teachers who guide us and give us knowledge. Virtually interacting with my teachers and buddies makes me feel as fresh as a flower.

Starting a new session of class 3rd, in such a new style, gives me a wide smile. These virtual classes of 2020 will hold a special place in my heart...

Thanks to my school SFS !!

International Literacy Day by Akshit Kapoor – 5 ORCHID

September 8 was proclaimed as the International Literacy Day by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on October 26, 1966. Its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. Now celebrations take place all around the world.

Literacy is at the heart of basic education for all. It means the ability to read and write. A good quality basic education helps people with literacy skills for life and further learning. Literate parents are more likely to send their children to school; literate people are better at utilizing the educational opportunities; and literate societies are better at making the country developed.

International Literacy Day is an occasion to give hope to millions of women, men and children. It is a timely reminder to the world about the importance of literacy for individuals, families and societies.

My Favourite Tourist Spot by Jiyana Dhall – 5 IRIS

Last summer holidays me and my family went to Nainital. When we reached there, it was raining. As soon as we reached, we went into the hotel. The hotel was very big and nice. I loved the view outside the windows. There were green trees and big mountains. The sight filled me with joy and wonder.

We went up the hills and enjoyed the scenery. In the evening, we went to the famous Naini lake. There were roads all around the lake. There were wooden benches for visitors. We enjoyed the breeze and the beautiful sight of the lake. We went for a boat ride. We also enjoyed the cable car in Nainital.

We went to many places. I also bought gifts for my friends. The candles of Nainital are very famous. We bought the candles too. It was an enjoyable trip. It is my all-time favorite tourist spot.

My Favourite Tourist Spot by Rishabh Bhardwaj – 5 TULIP

My favourite tourist spot is Munnar which is in the state of Kerala. One of the most popular hill stations, in Idukki district, it is the best place for nature lovers. Munnar is also called the Kashmir of South India. It is famous for its peak, Anamudi, which is the highest peak of the peninsular India. The view of the sprawling tea gardens is breathtaking; I have never seen so much greenery. The Mattuppetty dam, designed in an artistic manner, is a place to enjoy the natural beauty. Kundala lake has a boating facility, while Echo point, where we can hear our echo back is a fun-filled place to be. Lots of waterfalls make this place very beautiful.

My Favourite Tourist Spot by Kaashvi Gupta – 2 IRIS

I have visited many places like Udaipur, Chail, Agra but my favourite place is Kerala. I went to Kerala last year with my family. I was very excited. There I visited the very famous hill station- Munnar. The weather of Munnar was very pleasant. We visited Ernakulam National Park and saw different kinds of animals and birds. I also did an elephant ride there. Next, we went to Alleppey. There we saw backwaters and enjoyed a stay on a houseboat. The next place we visited was Kovalam. Kovalam is the most popular beach side of Kerala. I did many activities there like making castles with sand, enjoying water splashes, swimming etc. I also visited a lighthouse and saw Kovalam beach from such a height for the first time. Banana chips and coconut water were the most famous eatables there. Visiting Kerala was an amazing experience!!

My favourite tourist spot is the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. We went to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands last December. We reached Port Blair in the morning. We visited Cellular Jail and saw the light and sound show depicting the history of World War 2. We also went to Corbyn’s Cove beach, where I enjoyed riding a water scooter. On the second day of the trip, we visited Ross Island and North Bay Island, where I rode a submarine. In the evening, we took a walk in the Jogger’s Park. Next day we went to Havelock. We checked in our hotel, with a beautiful front side view beach. We visited Kala Pathar beach, Radha Nagar beach and Elephanta Island. Coming back to Port Blair, we visited Bartang where we saw tribals, mangroves and limestone caves.

It was a wonderful trip.

My Favourite Tourist Spot by Ashmit Talwar – 3 ORCHID

My favourite tourist spot is Taj Mahal in Agra. I went there with my family during the last summer vacation. It is a sight to behold and hence is one of the famous tourist spots for people all over the world. It is truly one of the seven wonders of the world. It is a huge monument of white marble surrounded by the river Yamuna. It was made by emperor Shahjahan for his wife. I had a lot of fun and clicked many pictures as I wanted to keep a memory of each second of my beautiful trip. I can’t wait to go back there and live the pleasant experience all over again!

My Favourite Tourist Spot by Tisya Tahiliani – 2 ASTER

My favourite place to visit is Goa. Goa is about a 2 hrs flight from Delhi.

It is on the west coast of India. It is well known for its pristine beaches

and lovely weather. I like playing with toys and sand on a beach and

building sand castles. I also collect sea shells and decorate them on my

sand castles. I enjoy doing water sports like boat rides and parasailing.

Wonderful food is served at the beach shacks. I like to drink coconut

water throughout the day. Goa has a good nightlife and restaurants

where they serve scrumptious seafood like fish, prawns etc. I visit Goa

every year with my parents.

I would suggest everyone to visit Goa as soon as it’s safe to travel.

The International Ozone Day by Archit Kumar Mittal – 5 IRIS

The International Ozone Day for the Preservation of the ozone layer has been observed on 16 September every year since 1995. This date has been chosen by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution to remember the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987. The ozone layer is a natural part of our atmosphere. It acts like a protective sunscreen by blocking harmful ultraviolet rays from the Sun. Certain chemicals—such as CFCs, HCFC, and halons—can damage the ozone layer. As a result of ozone depletion, there will be an increase in the earth’s temperature, melting of glaciers, cancerous diseases and rise in the level of the oceans. There are simple ways in which we can

save our ozone layer.

• Avoid buying and using aerosols and sprays made up of CFC.

• Choose to buy a refrigerator or AC without CFC.

• Use alternative means of transport: buses, bicycles or simply

walk or carpool.

• Follow 4R’s policy-reduce, reuse, refuse and recycle things at

home and school.

• Buy energy saving gadgets and bulbs.
