Research Bursaries will be presented at the Conference on Thursday 26th November. Each year the Society awards two research bursaries of €2,000 each in order to enable individuals to study an area of Healthcare Informatics. Submissions are received from a wide range of Informatics students at Bachelor, Higher Diploma/Post Graduate Diploma, Masters and PhD level. The winners of the 2015 bursaries will be announced at the plenary.

The rst annual HISI Student Symposium took place on May 20th 2015. This initiative allows student researchers in health informatics to present their work. All submissions are peer reviewed and accepted abstracts are published in the Irish Journal of Medical Science.
The RAMI award for health informatics is awarded to the best paper. This year's award winners are Alphonsa Pius, Molly Vinu, Luke Middleton, Sarfraz Ahmad and Bridget Kane for their paper "A Study of an Infant Tagging System in a Maternity Hospital in Practice."
The abstracts for all papers are available in the Irish Journal of Medical Science, 2015, 184 (Suppl 8): S345–S351
The Best Paper Award is also presented on Thursday 26th November. The award for the conference’s best paper will be announced just before lunch on Thursday afternoon.

WELCOME FROM CATHAOIRLEACH
HISI Annual Conference 2015
On behalf of the Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland, I would like to welcome you to the Society’s 20th Annual Conference and Scientific Symposium, Ireland’s premier healthcare informatics event.
The theme of this year’s conference is ‘What can Health Informatics do for you? - Focusing On Out-comes.’ We chose this theme to move the discussion from one of creating a vision for healthcare infor-matics in Ireland, to one that starts to deliver the information that clinicians, nurses, and patients require for better patient outcomes.
Twelve months ago Richard Corbridge, CIO eHealth Ireland made his inaugural appearance at this very conference. Since then, a lot has happened. eHealth Ireland is fully up and running. The eHealth Ireland Ecosystem meets today for the fourth time (facilitated by HISI and ECHAlliance). We have health identifi-cation numbers for people using health services. We have an ePharmacy strategy to improve the way pharmacy is managed. These are just a few of the significant developments that have occurred since our last conference. Over the next two days we are going to celebrate the achievements of our hospitals, services, industry and academia by highlighting the range of projects that are succeeding in eHealth in Ireland, despite recent economic challenges. All of these projects are scalable, transferable and, perhaps most valuably, they plan lessons we can learn from so please be constructive in your feedback and praise.
The HISINM group have taken on the challenge of understanding our datasets and data standards - it would be great to see stories of SnoMed, ICD 10, NIC, NOC and NANDA-I in practice at next year’s conference.
We have a number of workshops which we hope will enable you to feel more informed on the threats and opportunities when it comes to figuring out how to safely walk the road of Apps and EMRAM.
We welcome the huge strides the Department of Health, HSE and in particular the Office of the Chief Information Officer have made in the last year. There is clear evidence that the National eHealth Strategy was not just another strategy document written to gather dust on our shelves.
We welcome the recent increases in health service spending for both services and infrastructure and hope that it will continue to help us deliver real improvements.
As always ProRec Ireland and ECHAlliance have collaborated with HISI to support these agendas, develop standards and lay the ground for the eHealth Ireland Eco-system which supports industry, aca-demia and health service providers whether they are based in the public or private sector.
On behalf of the Society I would like to thank all of our sponsors and supporters who are the real people who make HISI work. I trust you will enjoy a stimulating and informative two days. Thank you.
Declan Fitzgerald,Cathaoirelach, HISI

This workshop will provide some background on the HIMSS Model and their approach, and we will hear from speakers who have gone through the assessment process, with a view to providing some real-world insight into how the EMRAM might be used in an Irish context.
Title: There’s an App for that
The positive transformative potential of “apps” is well recognised, but considerable concern exists regarding their ability to deliver in a manner that is safe and can be trusted. This workshop aims to examine how the true potential of apps can be realised. This will be facilitated by a panel of experts and will contain a practical session where their theory is applied to an app in development.

Title: There is an App for WHO?: Co-designing connected solutions.
Title: Careers for Health Informaticians
Aim of the Workshop: To highlight issues and gather views regarding the importance of data and process design for applica-tions in the patient Space.
Outputs of the Workshop: 1. For each participant to become aware of the importance of design when building/choosing applications.
2. The views from the workshop will be fed into the Epilepsy Project and the MSc in health informatics.
Aim of the Workshop: Along with the appointment of Ireland's rst CIO for health comes optimism of career opportunities for Graduates of Health Informatics courses. This workshop takes a look at the roles and skills of Health Informaticians and encourages discussion about careers, networking and ways to acknowledge and progress our interdisciplinary profession.

With the 2004 launch of theHealth Informatics Training System HISI went one stepfurther to introduce its own foundation level trainingprogramme in healthcare informatics . HISI worked with ICSSkills , the training and certification arm of the Ir ish ComputerSociety, to develop the programme. As the national licensingbody for a range of IT training programmes including E CDL,
ICS Skills has considerable expertise in the area of training
