Ken Smith, Ken Smith and Associates, LLC Thursday, 8:00am- 9:30am Escalator Step Skirt Index BIO: Ken is currently the principle consultant with Ken Smith and Associates. Ken has over 30 years’ experience as a mechanical engineer that specializes in the design, installation and maintenance of escalators and moving walks. Over the years, Ken, has become involved in escalator litigation and training. He is a member of the ASME A17 Escalator and Moving Walk Committee as well as the B29 Chain Committee.

Mark Mullins, EIWPF Thursday, 9:30am- 10:30am Hazard Alerts BIO: Mark entered the elevator industry in September of 1998 with Local 48 in Charleston, West Virginia for Otis Elevator Company. While working for Otis, he worked in Construction, Repair, Modernization and Maintenance and successfully passed his Mechanic’s exam in 2005. Mark was elected Business Representative/Correspondent to the Journal in November of 2005. Some of the other positions he held while Business Representative was Local #48 Part time Administrator for NEIEP, JAC Chairman, NEIEP Chairman, NEIEP Instructor, Certifying official for the West Virginia Higher Education Mark also sat on the Kanawha Valley Labor Counsel/WV AFL/CIO and the WV Joint Labor/Union & Management Apprenticeship and Training Advisory Counsel. Mark was asked to join the team as National Coordinator for the Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund in September 2008. Some of his duties are Model Legislation and Davis Bacon/Prevailing Wage, Service Contract Act, OSHA, Liaison to the Signatory Contractors, Residential Lift Grant Program. Mark has earned his Master OSHA Instructor credentials through the Center to Protect Worker’s Rights to teach Train the Trainer for the NEIEP Instructors, so they can teach OSHA 10/30-hour courses. He also carries a Construction Outreach Trainer and an Authorized Disaster Response cards, so he can also teach OSHA 10/30-hour classes and also he has his QEI. Mark serves on several committees including: BCTD Davis Bacon Committee, BCTD Safety and Health Committee, IUEC Safety Committee and the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation and the West Virginia A17.3 Committee.

BIO: Brian is responsible for reviewing installation drawings for compliance with

applicable codes and standards related to conveyances, and for review and approval of

new products and systems for use in Wisconsin. He serves as an advisor to the Wisconsin

Conveyance Code Councils. He provides code consultation and training to the elevator,

building design and construction industries. Brian is a graduate of Milwaukee School of

Engineering with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering and is a

Wisconsin licensed Professional Engineer. He holds state elevator and building inspector

credentials and has been with the State of WI for over 12 years

Prior to working for the state, he spent 20 years in the private sector as an Operations and Services Manager for three electrical/automation distributors. Resides in Erin, Wisconsin with his wife and two daughters.

BIO: Bill Seymour is an engineering graduate from Limerick Institute of Technology, Ireland.

He was a co-founder of Janus elevator products and after the acquisition of Janus by the UK based public company, Halma PLC, went on to build Halma’s global elevator and automatic door components division. In his role as a divisional chief executive Bill was responsible for companies such as Memco, TL Jones, E-Motive Display, Electronic microsystems, Monitor Controls, Janus and BEA Sensors.

Post Halma, Bill was responsible for the operations of Sematic USA/Tyler elevator before launching his own Connecticut based sales and consulting business, Seymour Technologies LLC in 2013.

Jack Day, NAESA International Thursday, 2:30pm- 3:30pm ANSI A117 Thursday, 4:00pm- 5:30pm A17.1 2016 Pt 1 BIO: Jack Day has taken a position with NAESA International as the Educational Director and full- time instructor. Jack was appointed as Chief Elevator Inspector for the State of Washington on January 3, 2005 through December 2016. He had works briefly as an Elevator Technical Specialist for Labor and Industries after moving from WA to Missouri. Jack took the position as an inspector working directly with the Chief Inspector with the State of Missouri to help further establish the Department of Elevator Safety as an inspector for the State. Jack has 12 years of previous work experience with Otis Elevator including Installation, Maintenance and Modernization Supervisor and Territory Manager. Lawrence Taylor, Schindler Elevator Friday, 8:00am- 10:00am National Electric Code BIO: Lawrence Taylor has been in the electrical and elevator business for 46 years. He is a NEIEP Certified Elevator Mechanic, IAEI Certified Electrical Inspector, a QEI Certified Elevator Inspector, a Texas licensed Elevator Inspector and a Texas Master Electrician. Mr. Taylor is the retired Chief Elevator Inspector for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and is the longest serving Chief in Texas history. He is a veteran having served in the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions and the 12th Combat Aviation Group. He is currently a Codes and Standards Officer for Schindler Elevator Corporation based in Austin, TX

BIO: Ian started his career in the elevator industry in 1984 working in the field for Schindler Elevator Corporation. Over the course of his career at Schindler he held numerous positions including Adjuster, Troubleshooter, Regional Field Engineer, Modernization Engineer, and Technical Training Manager. Ian was the Manager of Engineering at the control manufacturer O. Thompson in Queens, NY until the company was sold, at which time he continued his career in the elevator industry with Magnetek as the Northeast Regional Manager. He is currently the Reliability Manager for the Eastern Region for KONE Elevators and Escalators. Ian has held a QEI certification since 1999 and has spoken at various industry events for such organizations as NAESA, NAEC, TSSA, and ECNY. He currently serves on the NYC Department of Buildings Elevator and Conveyors Code Committee.
