Over 150 young scientists from Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Macon, Randolph, Stewart, and Sumter counties participated in the annual fair. Students from 5 th grade through 8 th grade presented and defended their original science fair ChattCo student wins big at Science Fair Dominick Keeney project and research before 10 judges at South Georgia Technical College. Students also participated in STEM challenges during the science fair. The students were allowed to do projects in the areas of Life Science, Physical Science, Earth/Space Science, and General Science. The top three scores in each grade were recognized, as well as the top score in each science area. Overall 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd places were recognized, based on the top scores. Dominick Keeney, a 5 th grader in Chattahoochee County, was the Overall Winner and also won first place in the Physical Science category with his project of “Packing Bananas”. The wait is over for opening of Eagle Foods in Buena Vista As this week’s newspaper was headed to the press, Dixie Dis- count-Cuthbert was preparing for the rst day of business at the new Eagle Foods in Buena Vista. The Marion County Chamber of Commerce hosted a special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, May 18 at 10 a.m. to mark the opening. The supermaket has approxi- mately 12,000 square feet of “selling area”, including 10 spa- cious aisles that are surrounded by a great deal of refrigerator/ freezer spaces. The full-scale supermarket has approximately 36’ for refrig- erated produce, 24’ for frozen meat, 24’ for cold-cuts/smoked items, 36’ for fresh meat, 60’ for dairy products, 50 doors for frozen food, and a 20’ beer case. Several businesses will open in the near future in the adjacent shopping plaza. These include the Kick’n Chick’n (operated by the owner of the Big Chick in Talbotton), a loan-type ofce operated by the Bank of Talbot- ton, a bakery/coffee shop, and an exercise center. “Sassy” is also relocating to the plaza from downtown Buena Vista.
