The Museum Collection at the MarconiLunch at The Winery Restaurant
On Sunday, August 14th join our host Dr. Donald W. Wise for a self-guided tour of The Museum Collection at the Marconi, a thirty million-dollar collection of Ferrari’s, other exotics, historical and classic cars. This is a rare opportunity to view this fabulous collection. The event starts at 11:00 a.m.
At noon, we will motorcade to the award winning restaurant The Winery Restaurant and Wine Bar in the District, which is about ten minutes away in Tustin. This venue has received almost every Number One award in Orange County since 2011. Proprietors JC Clow and William Lewis will take very good care of us in a private dining room and we will have roped off parking for our PMCs.
Mark your calendars and come join your RROC So Cal friends at this fabulous event.

Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club2016 Concours d’Elegance
By Tom and Maria Rivera
The RROC, Southern California Region’s 2016 43rd annual Concours d’ Elegance is now on record as being an outstanding success and the most heavily attended “Concours” in the past dozen years. If you were not at the 2016 Concours at Santa Anita Racetrack on Saturday, May 14th, you missed one of the finest events ever. The weather for our Concours was perfect! While the day started out cool and overcast, it steadily became sunny with a slight breeze as the day progressed. It is interesting to note that a record number of PMCs were in attendance this year. A fabulous time was had by all, especially because of the number of our beloved PMCs that were on hand to be appreciated, displayed, and judged.
The elevated Winners’ Circle and Presentation area allowed a wonderful view of each motor car on the field and the different award categories, including our newest class called “Show & Shine”. Our prime location on the infield provided easy access to the betting windows and a close-up view of the center back stretch of the race track.
There is an interesting history of these Pre-War cars, which are either original or had very little restoration work done throughout the years.
The PMC owned and presented by Greg Gill (1924 Springfield Silver Ghost, Piccadilly, RRCCW (411MF)) was originally owned by Howard Hughes for almost thirty-five years. It was later owned by Gloria Swanson. Greg was awarded “Best of Show Pre-War”. Here, Chief Judge Dave Dwoskin is judging the PMC as presented by the owner.
The silver 1950 Bentley Mark VI (B119FU) owned by Glen and Joanne MacDonald shows the “design of the times” with the unique center light denoting the car was produced in England. This is the first time at the Concours for the MacDonalds.
The PMCs were presented in eighteen different judging categories. The total number of cars also included four exquisite motor cars, which were on display by Classic Motor, Inc., located in Van Nuys, California. Club members dusted, wiped and polished their PMC to gleaming perfection before the judging competition.
We are all especially grateful to our Chief Judge Dave Dwoskin, who conducted the Judging Seminar at Ronny’s Garage prior to the Concours. He orchestrated the evolution of the cars on the field for judging, progressing from Pre-War to Modern eras. Dave organized the judging teams and prepared the paperwork for the event. The judging teams were extremely busy this year due to the significant number of PMCs in each class. After the judging teams scrutinized each car, Dave calculated the 2016 Concours results. In the photo above, Dave is preparing to announce the 2016 Concours winners.
In addition to being a judging Team Captain and the Technical Chairman, our sincere thanks go to Ronny Shaver, the owner of Ronny’s Garage, who donated a $300 gift certificate as the grand prize in the raffle. To the left, Ronny is working hard to finish the evaluation of the Silver
Spirit I, Spur 1, Bentley Mulsanne, and Turbo R category.
We enjoyed a chic country picnic style lunch in the glen which featured mouth-watering BBQ, crispy fried chicken, and delicious hot dogs. The variety of food was excellent, with coleslaw, salad, California steamed vegetables, a fresh fruit platter and a well-stocked dessert table.
Following lunch, we had the awards presentation, lavished with over $3000 of “High Performance Car Care Products” from Mothers®, our long time sponsor. Their amazing products were well received by our First Place Concours winners, special award winners and club members in their goody bags. There was a splendid table of raffle items including many informative books, jump starters, bullet clocks, spot lights, California Car Cover Dusters, and coffee cups. Above is the awards table of trophies and plaques.

Buckets of Mothers(®) Car Care products are lined up and ready to be given to the 1st Place Concours and special award winners of the 2016 Concours d’ Elegance. Even the distinguished Queen Elizabeth uses Mothers® on her royal fleet of motor cars.)
Below - Nancy Ratinoff is pleased to present trophies to each winner during the awards ceremony.
Whether club members were attending to their PMCs, enjoying the delectable buffet, or relaxing in the cool shade under the tent at the awards ceremony, Nancy was attending to every detail. The club is very fortunate to have such a dedicated and caring member as Nancy Ratinoff. We extend our sincere appreciation to Nancy who put in countless hours to organize and host the Concours d’Elegance, our most prestigious event of 2016. Above, Nancy is awarding plaques to each winner during the awards ceremony.
We also want to give special thanks to our Chairlady, Karen Perrault, for her club leadership and energy. Her direct involvement throughout the duration of the Concours highly contributed to the success of our event. To the right, Karen is presenting her 2007 Continental GT Coupe in the Show & Shine category where she was a 1st Place Concours winner.
We were pleased to see numerous first time attendees including Hiram Bond, Fadi and Jennifer Elias, George Feher, William Greene, John Greene, Sandy and Ron Hansen, Glen and Joanne MacDonald, Art Ochoco, Maria and Tom Rivera, Fred Ross, Glen McGuire, and Xavier Maigden. Many of these “first time” members won trophies and we hope to see them again.
The Rolls Royce Owners’ Club of Southern California would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank every company who generously donated to our Concours to help make it a triumphant event including Mothers® Car Care products with their excellent and extensive product line, Rolls-Royce Beverly Hills who gave us a striking scented candle, which is only given to people when
they buy a car, California Car Cover, Classic and Sports Car magazine, Garage Style magazine, Griot’s Garage, Hemmings magazine, J.C. Taylor, Xavier Maigden of California Car Vault in Santa Paula, Rock Auto, and Sports Car Market magazine.
Congratulations and our sincere appreciation goes to everyone involved in making our 43rd Annual Concours d’Elegance such a memorable event.

The Cover StoryBy Sandy Hansen
We purchased this unique car in 2013 at the Gooding Auction in Pebble Beach, Florida. We were told that this 1925 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost is one of the earliest left-hand drive, Springfield-built motor cars. It was purchased new on December 12, 1925 by Frederic Rider of New York City. This Salamanca Permanent Town Car body was hand-crafted by Willoughby & Co. of Utica New York, which is known primarily for its formal-body expertise. Only 37 Salamanca’s, including both Permanent & de Ville styles, were created for the Springfield Silver Ghost by various coachbuilders.
The car was then sent to the Verkehrshaus der Schweiz (Swiss Museum of Transport) where it remained until 1980. Australian billionaire Robert Holmes a Court purchased this distinctive car for his collection where it remained until his passing. We were very fortunate to be the next owners of this wonderful car.
The exterior finish remains in remarkably good condition with some age blemishes on the scuttle, which only enhance the car’s wonderful patina. The rear doors still carry the first owner’s crest and raised initials. The passenger compartment displays the original fine petit-point needlework on the seats, while the doors and division contain excellent inlaid veneers. The luggage trunk is a very rare example made by California’s Oakland Auto Trunk Works, complete with overseas travel labels. This magnificent motor car is fabulously original and very well preserved
This esteemed motor car won several prestigious awards at the RROC So Cal 2016 Concours d’Elegance. It won First Place Concours in the Pre-War class and the People’s Choice Award. Both this car and our 1961 Silver Cloud II won the Jim Toole Brace Award for the best 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder cars.
Their beautiful 1961 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II was purchased by Ron as an everyday driver for Sandy and what a classy everyday driver it is! People always turn their heads when Sandra drives by in such an exquisite motor car. It is a rarity to see such elegance on the road today. Sandy has had her Cloud for about a year and loves driving it.
Congratulations to Ron and Sandy for their multiple wins at the Concours!
I Couldn’t Have Done ItWithout You, Again!
By Nancy Ratinoff
Our 43rd Annual Concours d’Elegance was an outstanding success. The most important ingredient of this sensational event was the members who participated by bringing out their magnificent cars. It was truly thrilling to see the spectacular field of motor cars and the progression through time of our favorite marques Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Congratulations to all of the trophy winners. It was truly wonderful to see that many new members attended because new members are the essence and life blood of our club’s existence. I could not have done this event without the invaluable help of Chief Judge Dave Dwoskin. He worked extremely hard at establishing judging teams that were both knowledgeable and professional. I would also like to thank our treasurer Howard Green, who I constantly harassed for updated attendance sheets. A very big thank you goes to our Chairlady Karen Perrault. She is an integral part of every event and supplied moral support when I started stressing out.
I would like to extend my most heartfelt thank you to the following members who assisted behind- the- scenes, with judging, and on the day of the event. I absolutely couldn’t have done the Concours without them. They are: Jim Cetina, Paul Dailey, Tony De Rosa, Richard Dorsey, Debby Fisher, Santos Guerra, Bob Gurr, Sonia Haight, Willy and Joan Hugron, Joy Jacot, Ray MacDonald, Glen McGuire, Gary Mantey, Dori Olsen (the creator of the Happy Face contest), Stuart Olesker, Ron Peters, Steve Power-Fardy, Robert Ratinoff, Tom and Maria Rivera, Ronny Shaver, Bill Sundin, Gene Towle, Wilhelm von Bleich, Tom Warden, George Widman and Dr. Donald Wise.
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank all of the people and companies who have generously donated to our 43rd Annual Concours. Mothers® Car Care Products has been especially charitable to us with their 5-Gallon buckets of product for all of our 1st Place Concours and Special Award winners, plus samples for our goody bags. Please support them by buying their superb products. Their product line is constantly evolving to include new and outstanding items. If you want to bring home a trophy or if you just want your prized car to shine, their extensive product line has everything you will ever need. Ronny Shaver, of Ronny’s Garage in Santa Ana, graciously donated a $300.00 gift certificate to our raffle. Ronny has always supported our region and please support him. Rolls-Royce Beverly Hills gave us a striking scented candle, which is only given to people when they buy a car. Other companies who generously donated to our Concours to help make it a triumphant event are California Car Cover, Classic and Sports Car magazine, Garage Style magazine, Griot’s Garage, Hemmings magazine, J.C. Taylor, Xavier Maigden of California Car Vault in Santa Paula, Rock Auto, and Sports Car Market magazine.
