• Igor Gouzenko revealed Soviet spy ring in Canada and the United States in 1945
• There certainly was anti-communist sentiment in Canada, but it never reached the fever pitch that it did in the United States

• By the late 1940s, the world was increasingly divided by the Cold War
• Canada sided with the United States and, along with several other countries, created NATO in 1949

The Avro Arrow
• In the 1950s, Canada developed the most advanced fighter jet in the world
• In 1959, the Avro Arrow was scrapped (literally)…all planes and the blueprints were destroyed by the Canadian federal government
