This is the 1851 logo, when you used purely as a symbol the accompany text can be

excluded. The logo can be placed on a white background int its full form, but is only to

be placed on a black background in it’s symbol form.

It’s never to be tilted, blended, skewed, or altered in anyway. It is a purely black and

white logo that shall never be represented in any color form.

There should always be a 0.25in border surrounding the logo.

FONTS

1851 Project will feature two fonts a sans-serif for display and a serif for all body copy.

Bebas Neue will be used as the display font on 1851. It will be used for all primary

headlines, heading, and any other display sized type featured on site imagery.

Latin Modern will be used as the body font on 1851. It will be used for any body copy

or sub-heads featured on site imagery.

COLORS

1851 Project will feature five colors throughout the publication as a baseline and to

highlight specific features.

BLACK R = 0 G = 0 B = 0 | Black will be used for backgrounds, fonts, and

borders throughout the site.

WHITE R = 255 G = 255 B = 255 | White will be used for backgrounds,

fonts, and borders throughout the site.

50% GRAY R = 137 G = 137 B = 137 | Gray will be used for back-

grounds, fonts, and borders throughout the site.

YELLOW R = 253 G = 184 B = 19| Yellow will be used a spot color

throughout site imagery, to highlight important phrases or provide a spot

background to draw users attention

RED R = 169 G = 19 B = 17 | Red will be used a spot color throughout

site imagery, to highlight important phrases or provide a spot background

to draw users attention

HEADLINES

Headlines in 1851 are to be written in Bebas Neue with all sub-heads or body copy

to be written in the font Latin Modern. Any varied styles or weights for these fonts are

available for use, but headlines are to be limited to these two fonts only.

Headlines are to be written in black or white, 1851’s Red (R = 169 G = 19 B = 17) or

yellow (R = 253 G = 184 B = 19) may be used as a spot color when appropriate.

STORIES LACKING IMAGERY

1851 Stories lacking imagery will use an image with the 1851 watermark and

typographic logo. It will be accompanied by a headline stating Spotlight Feature in the

spot yellow, and Bebas Neue Italic. The subhead is to be in the font Latin Modern Regular.

TYPE BASED IMAGERY

When appropriate if a story is lacking imagery a type-based image may be created for

stories to keep the magazine fresh. These Images will feature a textured background,

that is not overly distracting. The headline of the story will be in Bebas Neue, using a

dynamic type treatment, and the sub-head in Latin Modern.

FEATURED STORIES WITH IMAGERY

When photography is provided for featured stories, we will use the full bleed photo

as the primary imagery. It will be accompanied by the headline in Bebas Neue. The

headline will be placed in front of a black or white box to highlight the story. A sub-head,

in Latrin Modern Regular may accompany the headline when appropriate.

When a story has imagery that is provided, that does not match the dimensions of the 1851

site, adjustments must be made. The size dimensions of the imagery will be matched with the

height standard of the website which is 360px and seperated by a white bar that is 5px by

360px. The other half of the image will be filled with black. The headline will be placed on the

oppositie side of the Image in Bebas Neue using one of the spot colors. The sub-head will be

placed under the headline in Latin Modern. The Copy will be enclosed by two one point bars

on the top and bottom of the copy.

PROFILES

Profiles on specific individuals will feature full bleed imagery of the individual, when

imagery is provided. The headline will read Spotlight Feature: (individuals name) in

Bebas Neue using one of the two spot colors. The subhead will then describe the feature

in Latin Modern. The heading and subhead will be seperated by a full length 1pt bar.

When a profile has imagery that is provided, but that does not match the dimensions on the 1851

1851 Series’ will feature a full bleed image bound with 620px by 50px black bars on

the top and bottom of the image. The series focus will be the headline and will be placed

in the top bar. It will read Spotlight Feature (in one of the spot colors): (Series Description),

all in Bebas Neue. The sub-head will be the daily focus and will be placed in the bottom

bar. It will read Daily Focus (in one of the spot colors): (Daily Description), all in Latin

Modern Regular.

photos which is 255px. They will be seperated by a white bar that is 5px by 255px.

Otherwise it will follow the basic layout of the 1851series imagery. Although the 1851

watermark and typographic logo will be placed to the left of the image. Also the two

bounding bars will be buffered with a white bar 620 px by 3px.
