GEORGIA OLIVE OILGEORGIAOLIVEFARMS.COM - $32 BOTTLEOn a recent quail hunt with our New column Scout South, wemet the owner of Georgia Olive Farms. That’s right, Georgiagrows olives now. Georgia Olive Farms, in 2011, conducted thefirst commercial harvest of olives east of the Mississippi Riversince the late 1800’s. The olives harvested were pressed intoextra virgin olive oil which is marketed under the Georgia OliveFarms label. And let me tell you, the stuff is good. Good enoughfor Macon’s newest eatery Dovetail to use it, and good enoughfor it to be the 11th Hour’s official Xmas gift to those we love.

Ask Einstein and he would say we areinsane—doing the same thing overand over again and expecting differ-
ent results. Caught in a chasm betweenWestern and Eastern medicine, many of usopt to stick with what we know…a handfulof pills and a perpetually empty wallet. In aneffort to help stop the insanity, we offer somealternative healthcare solutions for your NewYear’s Resolutions. While we aren’t endors-ing any treatment, these options could startyou on a journey that might just deliver youto your destination…you be the judge.
QIGONG“Relaxation yields productivity” says SelenaGilbert, Certified Level 2 Facilitator of theSupreme Science Qigong Center, and herstudents will tell you that the benefits of anearly morning session far outweigh thedesire to stay in bed.Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice simi-lar to Yoga or Tai Chi (recognized by theMayo Clinic); however, the movements aresmaller and easier to learn. It is a 5000 year-old energy art for strengthening the flow oflife force and improving health.Gilbert encourages students to use belly-breathing, movement and dietary changes toachieve a balance of the qi.
“Everything has energy. The earth hasenergy and so has our bodies,” Gilbertexplained. Through group movement andbreathing sessions, each person creates afield of energy around them of up to 3 feet. When a group of participants work together,
there are exponential benefits.Nutrition is an important aspect of
Qigong. According to the Qi Revolutionwebsite, www.qirevolution.com/food-heal-ing.aspx, “most diseases are reversible withfood. However, just eating healthy isn’tenough. The real Secret lies in using ‘specif-ic foods for specific diseases.’”
Gilbert reports amazing results with astudent who was suffering from Asthma. “Igave her a basket of kiwi fruit and asked herto eat it daily. Within a week, she reported agreat improvement in her condition.”
At Breathe Studios, Gilbert offers exer-cise sessions and teaching sessions on thefood protocols to students of all ages. She isavailable to speak or hold sessions on loca-tion. For more information, visit the websiteat www.breatheqi.com.
HYPNOSISMany of us think of hypnosis as a form ofentertainment. A hypnotist calls a few ofyour friends up on stage and after getting“very sleepy”, they make asses of them-selves. But there are proven cases in whichhypnotism has helped when traditional meth-ods have failed.
According to local Master HypnotistDale “Doc” Dougherty, “hypnosis is a natu-ral state of heightened awareness, often asso-ciated with relaxation, where you are able, ifyou wish, to open yourself to suggestionsand where you can make use of your imagi-nation to help you effect positive change inyour life.”
Certified in general hypnosis,HypnoBirthing, past life/age regression, stage hypnosis, and sports hypnosis, Doc hashelped many people with myriad issuesranging from issues of health to improving agolf swing.
He has helped expectant mothers deliv-er with little or no pain; patients overcomeeating disorders, as well as helping peoplewith the usual smoking cessation, weightloss issues. Athletes have been helped toachieve their peak performance through pos-itive self talk and students have been able toimprove their study habits as well.
Doc offers individual sessions as well asgroup sessions and will even entertain yourguests at your next party. Currently, he is mak-ing plans to present group sessions at either alocal theater or meeting space in Macon.
“Whether it is to remove fears, offerforgiveness, or reduce anxiety, people caneither attend a session on every topic, or justattend a future session that is of interest tothem. Either way, the first introductory ses-sion is needed as a way to educate everyone onthe topic, and to condition everyone’s mind forfuture sessions…with the benefit of relaxationand confidence,” Doc said.
Anyone interested in learning moreabout his services or receiving an email inreference to group or individual sessionsshould email Doc at his websitewww.MasterHypnotistDoc.com.
YOGAYoga is a medicine, which originated inIndia, which can benefit the healthy and thesick. Although many Western physicians arenot very knowledgeable in this area, aMacon physician has experienced positiveoutcomes from the discipline and now offersyoga to Middle Georgians.
“All of our lives are frantic at times.Yoga teaches us to find that calm placeinside,” said Dr. Dannette Kallay, owner ofYogaMoga. She states that many conditionscan be improved with yoga: anxiety andpanic attacks, arthritis, asthma, back pain, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, depres-sion, diabetes, fibromyalgia, heart disease, high blood pressure, insomnia, infertility, irritable bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, obesity…….the list goes on!
According to Kallay, there are manydifferent types and styles of yoga. For exam-ple, restorative yoga is more suitable for theperson that enjoys a slow pace. Holdingrelaxing postures for several minutes at atime allows deep relaxation and healing tooccur. A power yoga practice offers a fasterpace, more cardiovascular effects and moretoning and strengthening. Some people evenenjoy yoga in a heated room which allowsthe body to release toxins through the breathand the skin via sweating.
Kids also benefit from yoga. Throughyoga games and stories, even toddlers canbegin to learn yogic breathing, stretching andexercise. In addition to the benefits of exer-cising, yoga can teach kids how to breatheand relax in stressful situations.
“My goal as a kid’s yoga instructor is toteach them yoga they can take with them forthe rest of their lives. My students often giveme examples of how yoga helped them on anexam or in a tense situation with a friend. The kids are especially good at taking theiryoga off the mat and into the world.”
The schedule at YogaMoga can beviewed online at Yogamogamacon.com. Thestudio is located at 505 Second Street. Formore information visit the website or call478-746-3338.
ACUPUNCTUREAcupuncture is a vital part of traditionalOriental medicine used in Eastern healthcarefor over 3000 years. While Western medicinesare based on a biochemical model, Orientalmedicine is based on an energetic model.
Energy flows along pathways in thebody, each associated with a particular phys-iological system or internal organ. A defi-ciency or imbalance of energy causes diseaseand discomfort.
A trained acupuncturist inserts sterilizedneedles (as fine as a strand of hair) at locationsspecific to the patients’ complaints. Mostpatients experience relaxation, some actuallyfall asleep during treatment.
A patient at the Acupuncture & HerbCenter, in Warner Robins, reported thatEastern medicine has given him relief whenWestern medicine could not.
For seven years, this patient has beenreceiving treatment for a debilitating injury;he is now able to walk on his own and hispain has diminished significantly. Accordingto Dr. Zhiming Meng, O.M.D. LicensedAcupuncturist, acupuncture is suitable forrespiratory disorders, neurological and mus-cular disorders, digestive disorders, urinaryand menstrual problems, tension, anxiety, stress, depression, addictive behaviors(smoking, alcohol, overeating) and condi-tions unsatisfactorily relieved by conven-tional medicine.
Dr. Meng, originally a medical doctorin China, has practiced acupuncture and her-bology in the states since 2000. Dependingon the condition, many patients experiencecomplete relief after three visits ($50 each).Smoking cessation is achieved after sevenconsecutive treatments at an approximatecost of $330. With just a look at a patient’stongue and taking his pulse, Dr. Meng candiagnose a condition, prescribe a treatmentof herbs, and/or apply acupuncture.
It’s that time again. Time to reevaluate, to renew those unfulfilledpromises of last year…and if truth be told, those declarations havebeen on your resolution lists for many years. Don’t feel bad, you’renot the only one caught in this kaleidoscope of bad habits andfailed promises. It’s sad really, each of us needing to change—wanting to change—desperately trying to become a more suc-cessful version of ourselves only to realize that, despite our goodintentions and great start, we are woefully back where we startedat the dawn of yet another New Year. What is our problem?

Cindy Baxter is Founder and President of e 3/50 Project, LLC. What started out as a “happy accident” in 2009 spawned from a simple blog post has now changed the way many consumers shop, especially during the holiday season. e premise is quite simple. Ask yourself, “What three independently owned businesses would you miss if they disappeared? en make an eort to spend $50 in those businesses every month.
It could be as simple as a $12 bottle of wine from Winestyles, and a hip, new Kavu bag from Karats & Keepsakes ($38). e thing is, if 50% of the employed population spent $50 a month at their favorite indie stores, their purchases would generate more than $42.6 billion in revenue. For every $100 spent in independently owned businesses, $68 returns to the local economy through taxes, payroll and other
expenditures. If you spend that same amount in a national chain, only $43 stays here. Spend it online and nothing comes home. So this holiday season, take a moment to explore all the unique items available just around the corner. e Macon Arts Gallery is hosting a trunk show, sales galore at Macon’s indie boutiques on Forsyth and Rodeo Beach is the only place in town where you can purchase a hip YOLO board!
We want to see your 3/50 purchases! Send us a pic of your purchased items with a quick description of what you bought and where - for a chance to win a rockin’ stocking filled with local gift certificates.

OP-ED ALL IMAGES BY ADAM SMITHPOLITICOBY JUSTIN CHICK
The meeting featured a 4 hour briefing/pres-entation/ collusion about how liberals, name-ly President Obama, are planning a UNtakeover of the United States using ubiqui-tous Cold-War era mind-control techniquesaimed at local government.
The presentation wasexpounded by FieldSearcy, a local Tea PartyActivist who was forced bythe Georgia Tea Party tostep down from his posi-tion on its Board ofDirectors in April for dam-aging “the reputation andgood name of the GeorgiaTea Party” for using theParty’s resources to pursuehis personal agenda. Mr.Searcy, as cited in theGeorgia Tea Party’s “Resolution – FieldSearcy” document, “Actively promotedissues and beliefs derived from conspiracytheorist Alex Jones.”
One such conspiracy theory, Agenda 21,was precisely the topic of the 4 hour meetingin early November. Agenda 21, if you arenot familiar, is a non-binding plan of actiondrafted by the United Nations in 1992 in Riode Janeiro at the UN Conference onEnvironment and Development to address“the pressing problems of today and also aimat preparing the world for the challenges ofthe next century.”
The document focuses on environmen-tal, educational, monetary, and social prob-lems on a global scale and provides a tem-plate for progressive action that countriescan choose to implement in whatever facetthey deem appropriate for the area’s specificneeds—if at all.
In recent years, Agenda 21 has sparkedinnumerable conspiracies—generally fromthe political right—ranging from a UNtakeover of America (“We’ll never succumbto the socialist mold of Europe!”) to undeni-able evidence that Obama is the Anti-Christto Orwellian Dystopias etc. etc.
Notable conservative figures such asGlenn Beck and, as mentioned, Alex Joneshave expended countless hours attempting topersuade Americans that we are on the brinkof a UN infiltration of our sacred democracyand that it is their (conservatives) duty tostand up and fight against this atrocity. Some of the allegations against Agenda 21presented by Glenn Beck, Alex Jones andother conspiracy theorists include: 1. A planfor human redistribution, or ‘rewilding,’which is forcing—at a local level—citizensto move out of the rural countryside and intothe ‘cities from whence our ancestors fled,’(Dick Morris) in order to reestablish vastareas of wilderness to help curb CO2 pollu-tion. 2. It increases fuel efficiency standardsand encourages people to utilize publictransportation i.e. buses and trains (which isa defamation of human rights!). 3. It focus-
es on the redistribution of capital from “rich”countries to “poor” countries by encouraging“rich” countries to invest in education, infra-structure and resources to aid developingcountries. 4. It seeks to implement its vision
for population control. While some of these alle-gations are undoubtedlytrue (increasing fuel effi-ciency standards andinvesting in developingcountries), most of it isconspiracy. There is littledoubt that Agenda 21, ifimplemented in theUnited States, would havea detrimental impact onour nation. It wouldaffect us socially, politi-cally, financially, philo-
sophically. However, the nut of this wholeAgenda 21 conspiracy is that it’s simplyNOT being applied.
Like most fallacies created by politi-cians, the Agenda 21 conspiracy wasdesigned to frighten Americans into support-ing their own special interests. The big inter-est behind Agenda 21: (gasp!) Big Oil.One of Agenda 21’s biggest opponents is afellow by the name of Tom Deweese.Deweese is the creator and head of theAmerican Policy Center, a so-called think-tank devoted to pushing a conservative agen-da. The special interests of Deweese’s advi-sors tell the story. Bonner Cohen was a for-mer director of The Advancement of SoundScience Coalition which was funded byExxon, GM, Dow Chemical, and Amoco.John Meredith is on the Advisory Board atCFACT which received funding from Exxonand Chevron.
Deweese himself has stated: “CO2 is nota poison to human beings, CO2 is not affectingthe atmosphere, there is absolutely no evi-dence, I can say this with absolute confidence, there is no evidence of man-made globalwarming causing problems…..Trees give offcarbon dioxide; all the plants around us give itoff. The fact is some scientists have done somestudies saying we’ve got a carbon dioxideshortage right now. That then causes plants todie, that causes environmental damage.”
At Sen. Rogers’ meeting in Augusta,Mr. Searcy even claimed that Agenda 21 isresponsible for the high price of gas and oilbefore veering off on a tirade, accusingObama of mind-control and comparing himto Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong.
The pedaling of fear inducing conspira-cies has become a hallmark of politicaldeception. It coerces citizens into votingagainst things like upgrading railroads, pro-tecting wildlife, and improving energy effi-ciency by convincing them that it’s all aSocialist plot designed to strip us of ourrights. After a grueling year-long election, Ithink we’re all a little tired of unfoundedconspiracies.

Tell me how you first got into rapmusic. Obviously you’re a country boy,and those two things don’t always gotogether. How did your rap careerbegin? Well, I didn’t really grow up in amusical household. Obviously I grew upin a rural community, and the music myparents listened to was old school country. And I had a brother who was a metal head.Iron Maiden was his favorite band.
I have on an Iron Maiden sweatshirtright now. Well, you would love mybrother then. He’s got an Iron Maiden tat-too. But when I heard rap music, it justspoke to me. The spirit of it spoke to me.Because really the spirit of, in my opinion,of groups like NWA, the rebellious natureof it. It was Outlaw, kind of like WaylonJennings and stuff like that. So I just real-ly related to that.. During that time thingswere changing in rural areas. Various drugepidemics were becoming more prevalent,in country towns. It was just different than
it had always been. Violence started pop-ping up. It kind of spoke to me, and someof the things that I was experiencing, inmy teenage years really stuck with me. Iknew from the second that I heard hip-hopthat I wanted to be a part of that, but I alsoknew that I wanted to paint a picture ofrural life.
You just collaborated with Colt Fordand Danny Boone who is from WarnerRobins on your latest single. Yeah, I’ve been coming down to WarnerRobins to record with Danny quite a fewtimes man. I’m pretty good friends withDanny and Demon Jones. It’s funnythough, Colt Ford and me have knowneach other for 20 years. We were in aband together. I met my manager Bobby
Stamps up in Athens and he and Colt weregreat friends. Colt had a different monikerback then and we did booty shake musicin our band, dance music. We split up andI did my thing and he did his thing, but wejust reunited creatively and professionally.I was a surprise guest on his last tour. I’dcome out and do Ms. New Booty and wehad a great time and our new single,“Country Folks”, is a lot of fun and it’savailable on itunes right now.
I wasn’t going to ask you about “Ms.New Booty” but since you brought it up,damn that’s a fun song. I don’t knowanyone who can stop singing it once it’splayed. It’s the “Baby Got Back” of thetwo thousands.
Do you ever get tired of singing it.Yes. Yes I do. I can say unequivocally thatI have a love hate relationship with Ms.New Booty.
But you can’t turn your back on it can you?Nope, it’s been too profitable. I think that I feelthe way I do about that song because peopleassociate me with just that song. There’s been somuch more to my career.
Well I’m sure that people found youbecause of that one song. At the risk ofsounding arrogant, I think my career hascovered a lot of bases. I came right out ofthe gate with a club banger, with Ugly. Then I had a platinum album with DarkDays Bright Nights. Then my secondalbum Deliverance was a criticallyacclaimed album that was artsy and kindof slept on, then I had my one hit wonderalbum with Ms. New Booty. I think Istopped after Ms. New Booty, stoppedputting out a lot of music. So I think thatgave people the opportunity to assess mebased just on that song.
What do you think you would be doingif you weren’t rapping? What I hope I’dbe doing is coaching football. I’ve had alot of jobs. I was an electricians appren-tice, I sold tennis shoes at the Foot Locker. But I always thought I’d be a teacher andI wanted to coach football.
Who are you listening to right now.Man I listen to everything. I listen to LukeBryan and Gucci Mane. I like it all. I’m amusic guy. Sometimes I like classicalmusic. Whatever I’m in the mood for.
Tell us what to expect at you upcomingshow. I used to just play with me and a DJ,but the feel of my new album is a lot moremusical so I’m rocking with a full band. There are some elements of country, funk, southern rock and dance. It’s real high ener-gy. We’ve been doing a lot of shows andpacking them out and having a lot of fun. It’s a lot different being able to play with afull band. It’s adds a whole level of credi-
QA&
The video for the first single, “Ugly,” fea-tured Bubba and pals in the mud withpigs, on tractors. If that’s not the epitomeof country, then nothing is. Eleven yearsand one Ms New Booty later, Bubba isback on the scene with his album PainManagement which will hit stores inFeburary. His new single with Colt Ford,“Country Folks,” is available now onItunes and he just stopped by the CoxCapitol Theatre on December 7 for ashow. We caught up with Bubba in hishometown of LaGrange, Ga.

F E AT U R E carnivore by brad evans
From the very first time I walked through tall pines andknee high love grass hunting bobwhite quail, I washooked. Watching the dogs freeze up on point, and inchforward to the calls of “Hold, Hold!” from the guide wasexciting, and to watch that Boykin flush those quail upinto the beautiful blue sky was as pretty a sight as I’dever seen.
Once flushed, hitting a quail proved a more difficult task thanjust watching how pretty it was. A Hunter has less than two sec-onds to gauge when and where to shoot. He must make sure thatdogs are not in the line of fire first, make sure no humans are inthe way (in that order), then hope that the quail is going to flystraight away from him. They usually don’t and if they fly rightor left you have to lead the bird by aiming the gun to where they“might” fly. A shot to soon and you have nothing left to eat. Toolate and the bird just keeps on flying. It’s about as fun as hunt-ing gets for me and I do it every chance I get.
Pretty much gone are the days when you could walk acrossrandom fields with a couple of dogs and find wild quail. UrbanDevelopment, pesticides and other factors that go along with ithave decimated the Wild Quail Population in Georgia. Luckilyfor hunting enthusiasts, Plantations throughout southeastGeorgia have mastered the art of raising semi-wild quail, birdsthat have been raised in pens, and then released into the wild.Over time, these birds fly almost as fast and as erratic as wildbirds, and this will only get better each year. In Mid October,we were lucky enough to experience just how good they can flydown at Smoking Gun Plantation in Ashburn Georgia.
Not far off of interstate 75 it took us less than two hours toget to the Plantation from Macon Georgia, but once we turnedoff the highway the scenery changed. Set on 800 Acres of beau-tifully thinned Pine and Hardwoods, Smoking Gun’s Lodge wasdesigned and built by its owner E.T. “Buddy” Henry. Buddy hasworked in the Civil Engineering field most of his life, and hasowned and operated several companies during that time. 35Years ago a friend of his invited him to a South Georgia QuailPlantation. The rest, he says, is history. Buddy and three of hisfriends would lease a hunting lodge every year from that point
on, to take clients to and to hunt themselves, and when their lastlease ran out in 2006, he decided to open his own quail planta-tion. He bought these 800 acres in southeastern worth Countyand set about building a lodge a lake and grooming it for quail. He is always finding something else toimprove on, he says.
When we arrived that morning, Buddywas waiting outside the front door of hislodge, a two story, shingled cabin that over-looks a beautiful stocked pond and severaltrap shooting stations. He gave us the nick-el tour of the place, showing off its beauti-ful fireplace, four bedrooms and fullkitchen. Buddy designed the place as if hewere going to live there, so he spared noexpense, and it shows. Great mounts of ani-mals killed around the property adorn thewalls, and the full bar waiting for after thehunt did not go unnoticed by our crew. Butit was early, and we could hear the Dogwagon rumbling up the driveway and weknew it was time to down our coffee and start hunting.
My cohorts Andrew Collier, Bobby Garner and myself, donned our blaze orange caps and vests to stand out against theterrain and walked out to meet our guides for the day. CalBeanblossom is a quail guide down to the bone; born and raisedin Worth County he has been behind bird dogs most of his life.Watching him work those dogs is worth the price of admissionon it’s own. Short Hairs Aberdeen and Trish worked perfectlytogether to the sound of his voice and they were on the firstcovey within 5 minutes of being out in the field. Once they wereon point, Cal sent in a flush dog named Sparky to get the quailto fly out of their covey so we could shoot them. Several excus-es later, we had to chase down singles for a while until we final-ly got warmed up and hit a few. We found close to 10 coveysbefore lunch and killed about 25 birds, due exclusively to oursub par shooting. It was the first hunt of the year for us, though;at least that’s what we told ourselves. It would be foolish to notdescribe Cal’s second in command; Hannah Johnson is a 21 yearold, very beautiful quail guide. She’s probably killed more quail
than all of us ever have put together, and she’s probably forgot-ten more about hunting than we’ll ever know. Naturally thiscompounded our embarrassment when we missed a quail, but itsure seemed to make following the dogs for miles a lot easier.
When we got back to the lodge for lunch aSouthern spread was waiting on us thatrivaled anything Mama ever made. We satdown Family style and ate until we could-n’t eat no more. At lunch we learned thatour Guide Cal wasn’t just some old red-neck-hunting guide. He told s that he’dgone to Southern Miss on a musicScholarship. I was sort of looking for himto pull out a guitar after lunch and sing ussome Conway Twitty or something butwhen I asked what he played he told me heplayed the French horn. I tried not to looksurprised when he told us about one of thebest moments of his life, going to see DaleClevenger, the greatest French Horne play-er in the world, at the Chicago symphony.
Cal is the kind of dude that can pull it off though, and it onlymade us respect him more that he could talk about the sympho-ny just as easily as he could talk about hunting.
After putting in a little couch time, and talking with Buddyabout some of his worldly exploits, we went back out hunting fora couple hours. We needed to hit the road by three to get back toMacon, but we saw plenty more quail and actually shot decent, bringing in about 35 more quail by days end. Bobby even hit adouble, and even though it was Andrew’s first quail hunt, heprobably shot better than any of us. All in all it was a prettyPerfect day. By the time we were ready to leave, they’d had thebirds cleaned and vacuum-sealed ready for us to take themhome. We said our goodbyes and hit the road, thankful that wehad the opportunity to spend time with such great people on sucha beautiful piece of property. A full day’s hunt with lodging, andthree meals is only $700 and it’s worth every penny. A half-daywith lunch is $400 and comes with a great lunch. In the months before their deaths, relatives say Mildred and JewelCleveland had struggled living in the same house with Mildred's grownson, Jason Howard. Jobless and socially withdrawn, Howard was a dis-
turbed man who had been committed to a mental institution for schizophre-nia following his arrest for robbing a bank. Although his mother thoughtthat Howard could be rehabilitated and insisted that he live with them, rel-atives say her husband, Jewel, wasn't so sure. Police think that after killingand burying the Clevelands, Jason Howard continued to live in the house. He paid bills, cared for the family pets, and even took a trip to the family'svacation home. With the aid of cadaver dogs, Liberty County police foundthe bodies of Jewel and Mildred Cleveland wrapped in tarps and buried in abarn on June 15, 2004. An autopsy later confirmed that both had been shotin the head and that Mildred had been beaten first. In his own words from a
November 1994 note, Howard explained:“Let it be known that I, Jason M. Howard, can be extremely paranoid, therefore as a fugitive I
will not only be carrying firearms but explosives as well...I'm not dangerous until I am crossed or cor-nered, so stay away. Keep away and don't blame me for a dead tactical team.”
For the next several years, Howard would live in the woods in Macon, in a camp he constructedout of camouflage tarps and tents and everything else he could find. He was featured on America’s MostWanted during those years, though he would elude arrest until 2009, when Macon Police found himbreaking into a rental car. Some months later, a friend of the 11th Hour, and a cross country runner, came across Howard’s camp in the woods. In it three journals were found. What follows is a page ofone of these journals, the first in a series of pages that look inside the head of a suspected killer.
