Q&A
Can the B50Cold-Pak® operate compact lamps?
No. The B50Cold-Pak® operates only linear lamps. However, Bodine will soon be offering two versions for compact lamps, the B4CF1 Cold-Pak (without conduit) and the B4CF2 Cold-Pak (with conduit).
The GTD™ Generator Transfer Device and GTD20™ Switch Bypass Device offer energy-saving
technology for generator- or central inverter system-supplied emergency lighting. The GTD
works with an auxiliary generator or central inverter system to power fluorescent emergency
lighting regardless of local light switch position (on/off). The device senses the loss of normal
power, bypasses the wall switch and supplies generator power directly to the AC ballast. The
GTD20 also works with an auxiliary generator or central inverter system to power emergency
lighting regardless of local light switch position (on/off). The GTD20, however, handles most
switchable lighting loads (fluorescent, HID, incandescent) up to 20 amps. The GTD is installed
in areas where only one fixture may be needed for egress lighting, such as a classroom or a
stairwell, or in areas where multiple switches are in use. The GTD20 generally is specified when
bypassing one wall switch controlling multiple fixtures, such as might be found in a
long corridor or conference room. Both the GTD and GTD20 can make a big
difference in energy costs by reducing energy waste. The devices eliminate reliance
on night-light circuits and permit lighting to be turned off without jeopardizing
life safety. Because the GTD and GTD20 provide emergency lighting only when
it’s needed, thousands of energy hours can be saved each year. Continuous day- and night-
lighting operation expends 8,760 energy hours annually per fixture (24 hours per day x 365
days per year). Without night-lighting, that number drops to approximately 3,500 (assuming
an average 9.5 operating hours per day), saving users 5,260 energy hours per fixture over
the course of a year! Note that multiple fixtures – up to 20 amps – can be connected to one
GTD20. changeable.

THE BATTERYIS THE BATTERY UL LISTED OR
UL RECOGNIZED? The battery
does not carry the UL mark (i.e., UL
does not list or recognize this type
of battery). However, the battery
as a part of the entire assembly is
UL Listed or Recognized, depending
upon the status of its host product.
DAMP MODELS
Below is a list of damp models with
their dry equivalent. Please note
that we do not yet have separate
spec sheets for damp models. For
now, the spec for the dry equivalent
should be used. All spec information
will be identical with the exception of
suitability for damp locations. Damp
spec sheets will be available soon.

VISION
bodine®
VISION
bodine®
Bodine’s newest LP Series low-profile emergency ballasts not only provide
90 minutes of emergency illumination with the newer T5 fluorescent lamps
but also offer shutdown circuit protection to ensure compatibility with most
electronic ballasts for T5 lamps. Shutdown circuitry is becoming more
prevalent in today’s electronic ballast designs in order to comply with new
ANSI standards regarding the safe handling of end-of-lamp-life conditions.
Bodine’s shutdown circuit protection consists of a time-delayed relay that
controls the reapplication of AC power to the electronic ballast when utility
power resumes. This feature allows for the entire lighting system (AC power,
electronic ballast and emergency ballast) to stabilize before the electronic
ballast attempts to restrike the lamps, which prevents inadvertent triggering
of the internal shutdown circuitry within the electronic ballast. The Bodine
models currently equipped with shutdown circuit protection include the
LP500, LP550 and LP600. If you have any questions about this article
or any other technical issues regarding Bodine emergency ballasts, please
contact us at 888-263-4638.
