I"want"to"talk"about"this"topic"in"three"parts.
First,"I"will"outline"a"critical"pivot"in"values"that"has"redirected"people’s"aspirations"and"lifestyles,"and"thus"the"direction"of"the"marketplace.
Second,"I"will"dig"into"this"as"a"shift"in"the"reference"points"people"use"to"make"sense"of"their"lives.""This"is"rooted"in"a"well?known"idea"from"social"psychology"known"as,"quote/unquote,"social"proof.""This"is"directly"relevant"to"the"ways"in"which"brands"and"retailers"create"and"communicate"persuasive"selling"propositions.
Finally,"I"will"share"a"series"of"examples"showing"how"consumers"are"redefining"status"and"value"in"terms"of"sacrifice.""Doing"without"for"the"good"of"others"is"a"new"aspiration"that"will"endure"in"the"context"of"this"pivot"in"values"and"redefinition"of"reference"points.
Let’s"start"with"the"values"pivot.
