Thanksgiving requires Grateful and

Kindly thoughts in the Heart

Some performances of the human body such as blinking the eye,

breathing and the beating of the heart requires no conscious thought.

Other actions are conditioned reflexes requiring little if any conscious

thought. Among these activities are typing, brushing the teeth, comb-

ing the hair, etc. But thanksgiving is different. Thanksgiving requires

thought and a grateful heart. Gratitude for the child of God should

come naturally. “ O lord, how manifold are thy works!” (Psalms

104:24). The Hymn, “Count your Blessings”, reminds us that heartfelt

gratitude is especially important for us when we are facing times of

discouragements, when life’s burden are unduly heavy and when envy

threatens to dominate our thoughts. Paul discovered so much in life

for which to be thankful. He was grateful for the “unspeakable gift”

of Christ Jesus (II Cor 9:15); thankful to God for putting him into

the ministry (I Tim 1:12) and grateful for the assured “victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Cor 15:57). A failure to be equally

as grateful as Paul will leave us no better than the unbelievers and

the lower animals. “Be Thankful”

How Do I Become A Christian?

Have you ever wondered what you must do to become a Christian or what

you must do to be saved? The Bible has an answer that is easy to under-

stand.

FIRST, you must understand that you need to be saved. The Bible says you

need to be saved because you are a sinner. Your sin has a penalty. You

cannot save yourself. The Bible says, “all have sinned” and the “wages of sin

is death”. (Romans 3:23; 6:23)

SECOND, you must understand that you can be saved. You can be saved

because Jesus died on the cross for your sins. The Bible says, “God demon-

strated His love of us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for

us.” (Romans 5:8)

THIRD, you must know what you need to do to be saved. The Bible ex-

plains how you can be saved. Acts 3:19 says we must repent and turn from

our sins. But repentance alone is not enough. Ephesians 2:8 says that we

must place our faith in Jesus Christ to be saved.

NOW, you must want to be saved. God is waiting for you to “want to “ and

then ask Him to save you. The Bible says, “that if you call upon the name of

the Lord you shall be saved”. (Romans 10:13)

If you are ready to trust Christ as your Savior and Lord, invite Christ into

your heart right now by praying to Him. You may word, your own prayer or

use the prayer printed here. The important thing is that the prayer is sincere

and personal.

“Dear Lord, I know that I am a sinner. I know you died for my sins. Right

now, I invite You into my heart to be my Savior and Lord. I willingly turn

away from my sin and give my life to You. Thank You for saving me,

AMEN.”

Welcome to God’s Family, you have just made the greatest decision of your

life. Tell a Pastor or another Christian friend about your decision as soon as

possible.

“And let us not become weary in well doing, for in due season we will reap if

Furthermore, our mission is to live spirit-filled and righteous lives so that the world may see our good work and glorify our God.

Furthermore, our mission is to become faithful stew-ards of our time, talent, treasures and testimonies for the glory of God.

THE CHURCH COVENANT

By what common experience do we enter into spiritual fellowship and covenant relations with one another?

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to re-ceive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior; and on the profes-sion of our faith, having been baptized in the name of our Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemn-ly and joyfully enter into the covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

What is the bond of our union with one another?

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordi-nances, discipline and doctrine; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expense of the Church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.

What gracious tasks do we humbly assume?

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engage-ments, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tat-tling, backbiting and excessive anger, to abstain from the sale of and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Sav-ior.

To what manner of life and conversation are we solemnly pledged?

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feel-ing, and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.

What is our Agreement when we move from this commu-nity?

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible, unite with some other church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's word.

What Benediction concludes our Covenant?

And may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead, the Great Shepherd of the Sheep, with the Blood of an eternal covenant, even our Lord Jesus, make us perfect in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory for ever and ever, Amen.

The freedom to vote is America’s most important political right outside of the original Bill of

Rights, and it is also the most hard-won right. In the early years of our republic, only white

landowners could vote. Slowly, the franchise was expanded in the states to incorporate white

male laborers, and women gained full or partial suffrage in most states before winning the

19th Amendment to the US Constitution in 1920, which federalized full and equal voting rights

for women. In the hardest voting rights struggle, Black Americans, whose right to vote was rec-

ognized in the 15th Amendment to the US Constitution, continued to face official and unofficial

restrictions and suppression in Southern states and cities until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 es-

tablished strong federal protections for the freedom to vote by banning or limiting many of the

discriminatory election policies and practices of the Jim Crow South.

The President of the United States is elected by the electoral college, not by popular vote. The

electoral college is made up of 538 electors in all. A candidate must receive a majority of at least

270 votes for election to the presidency. Each state has its specified number of electors, but dif-

ferent states have various laws regarding the obligations of those electors. Some states require

the electors to vote for the candidate receiving the most votes in the state, but others have no

such regulations. Most of the time, however, the electors vote for the candidate who wins the

state's popular vote. Two states, Maine and Nebraska, have their electors vote for all candidates

proportionally according to the popular vote for their particular state. Though the election oc-

curs on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, the electoral college does not vote un-

til the Monday after the second Wednesday in December. If no candidate gets a majority, the

election is thrown to the House of Representatives to decide between the top three candidates.

I am Grateful

In the United States today is a time to honor grateful living. Gratitude is more than just a one day event.—it’s a lifelong attitude. I consider everything for which I’m thankful, and then I go deeper. I bring to mind people situations, experiences that I ‘m not joyful about. I make a mental shift, reeval-uating them through the lens of an all– loving God. Is there someone I hold a grudge against? I give thanks for any turbulent relationships for they helped me on my self-worth. Those times when I faced financial difficul-ties gave me a greater appreciation for the simpler things in life. I give thanks for all that I am and will be. With thanksgiving in my heart, gratitude becomes embedded into my consciousness. Veterans Day 2016 is a federal holiday (previously known as Armistice Day) observed annu-ally on November 11th, not only in the United States but in many other countries through-out the world. In the United States it is a day that honors all men and women that have served as military veterans in the United States Armed Forces. Additionally, Veterans Day 2016 is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended the World War I hostili-ties between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918. Veterans Day 2016 should not be mis-taken with Memorial Day. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all United States military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service.

His t o r y o f Ve t e rans Day

The history of Veterans Day dates back to the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations came into effect, bringing an end to World War I. On November 11, 1919, Armistice Day was proclaimed by President Wilson and commemorated United States Veterans who served in World War I for the first time. In 1926 the United States Congress officially recognized November 11th as the end of World War I and declared that day as the anniversary of the armistice. In the year 1954 Armistice Day officially became known as Veterans Day and from then on, became a holiday honoring American veterans of all wars. In 1968 the Uniforms Holiday Bill made an attempt to move Veterans Day to the fourth Monday of October. The bill took effect in 1971. However this caused a lot of confusion as many states disagreed with this decision and continued to commemorate Veterans Day on November 11th. In 1975 President Gerald R. Ford signed Public Law which stated that Veterans Day would again be observed on No-vember 11th from 1978 onwards.
