Thanksgiving

Mayflower

Mayflower is a big ship. The Mayflower left England on

september 6th 1620, and it's destination was Virginia. A

storm has been blown off the courses, the ship. They

landed at cap cod, Massachusetts on November

11th 1620.

The first Thanksgiving

They met the native Americans. These people were very helpful.

The first Thanksgiving toke place in 1621. The pilgrims wanted to thanks the Native Americans for helping, them hunt for food, grow

vegetables , cure illness and build houses.

In a typical Thanksgiving dinner there is : roast turkey with

stuffing, served with cranberry sauce.

The vegetables are sweet or mashed potatoes, celery sticks,

creamed onions and corn. For dessert the usally have

pumpkin pie.

Activities of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a bigger holiday than Christmas. All Americans try to get home

for Thanksgiving. At Thanksgiving, Americans say thanks you for the food, they have, ans all the good things

in their lives.

Activity (1): American Football

Amercians can watch American football on TV.

It's not the same as soccer because :

It is more violent and dangerous than soccer.

The ball is like a rugby ball.

The players have to wear helmets and pads.

In soccer it is forbidden to touch the ball with your hands.

Activity (2) : Macy's Parade

Americans can also watch Macy's Thanksgiving parade.

Macy's is a departement store (like « Galeries Lafayette » & « Le printemps » in Paris). The parade takes place in New York City. There are Floats, marching bands and larger-than-ballons. This is a very festive atmosphere

The presidential pardon.

Every years the president of the USA

saves the life of a turkey white.
