Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a holiday full of tradition. Fam-

ilies get together for a large feast of food and

fellowship. For many, the day includes watch-

ing football games, playing games and enjoying

activities together or maybe taking a nap. It

can sometimes be like a mini reunion since our

schedules are so full and we are too busy to gather as a family

more often.

But, where is God in all of this celebration? Is God at

the center of your thoughts when you are “giving

thanks”? Are you thanking God for the privilege to live

in a country free from tyranny? Are you thanking God

for having the ability to earn a good enough living, to

have the day off as a holiday, and to have a feast and

feed so many people? Are you thanking God for providing you a

family to share a feast with? Or, are you distracted and obsessed

with the preparing a meal, watching a football game, being enter-

tained, catching up with other’s lives?

Well you can enjoy the day and should

enjoy the day if you remember to thank

God first for everything he provides. God

wants us to live a joyful life and the

Thanksgiving Holiday can be very joyful

when you acknowledge the true source

of that joy.

Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless You All!

Thank you all for praying for me and expressing concern over the past few weeks! My Doctor has diag-nosed me and has prescribed medicine and diet that has me feeling much better. And, God has answered prayers and provided much peace. You are such a wonderful family that is a blessing to me and my family. Love, J. R. Stroble

We need your help in keeping our Blessing Box stocked so if you could bring canned goods, pasta, or anything that is non-perishable and put it in the red tub in the foyer it would be greatly appreciated.

Pray for It Before You Pay for It

“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy will be the fullest possible joy” (John 16:24 NCV).

Are you in financial need and waiting for God to help?

God has promised to meet your financial needs. He’s just waiting for you to ask for his help! The Lord never shuts his storehouse until you shut your mouth.

One of the reasons we see God not working in our lives is because we just don’t ask. Instead of living a life based on Christ, we live a life based on credit. When we have something we need, instead of stopping and asking God for it, before we even think about asking God for it, we just use that credit card. We trust credit instead of Christ.

If you want to see God work in your life, pray for it before you pay for it. Do you pray about major purchases before you make them? Or do you just take care of it with your credit card? Every time you use that credit card before praying about it, you’re short-circuiting a possible miracle in your life. Before you charge a purchase, why don’t you ask God about it first?

God is not going to give you everything you pray for, so don’t be surprised. But there are some things he does want to give you just to do a miracle in your life. Many people have never had a financial answer to prayer, because they’ve never prayed specifi-cally.

“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy will be the fullest possible joy” (John 16:24 NCV). Do you know why God wants you to learn to ask for things in prayer? So he can give them, and so you’ll be full of joy. God is a loving Father. He’s not some ogre sitting in the sky, waiting to make your life a bummer. He wants to bless your life! You just have to ask.

How do your spending habits and your prayer life intersect?

What is your family’s policy when it comes to making large purchases?

What are some ways your life reflects that you trust God with your finances?

Page 3 Announcements

November is the month when Facebook becomes bombarded with daily “thankful” posts. I’ve seen some funny ones this year already – posts describing what texture or touch someone is thankful for! Of course, we always see the ones who are thankful for friends, family – the standard blessings. All of these positive statements are a great change from the typi-cal posts during other times of the year, but I think we could all take lessons in Thankfulness from a kid.

In all of the years I’ve worked with kids, teaching them to pray is always one of my favorite times. I always explain to them that praying is just how we talk to God. I tell them that we can ask God to help us with anything. Even still, the prayers that are unrehearsed are typically a long list of thanking God for everything and everyone in their lives.

I love to listen to a toddler’s prayer. Right now, Koen prays much the same prayer each time she prays out loud. “Dear God, Thank you for this day, thank you for our family, thank you for our food.” Sometimes, when she is feeling really wordy, she prays for each person in our family by name: “Thank you for Me-mom, Poppy, Camie, Carlie, mama, Daddy, Kort, Kace…” the list goes on and on. Occasional-ly, she’ll pause and look to one of us asking, “and who else?” She’s not finished until each extended family member has been named!

I think we can learn something from these little ones. They so rarely ask God for anything, but instead, just recite a long list of Thanks-giving. Maybe we should do more of this as well… Happy Thanksgiving! Jill

Services or meal that night. Enjoy your time with your family.

Due to the recent attacks on churches, it has been decided that limiting access into the building is one of the quickest and easi-est ways to provide additional security. On Sunday mornings we will be locking all of the glass doors to the back half of the building at about 9:15 am. That should allow everyone to attend Bible classes without any difficulty. The wooden doors to-wards the front of the auditorium will be locked at the beginning of service. This will force anyone wanting to enter the building to do so through the glass doors in the foyer. None of these actions will inhibit anyone from leaving the building. It will only reduce the entrances into the building after everyone normally arrives. Please pray for our security team as they work on

other areas to help ensure our safety while worshiping God.

Ann Halford has been donating bikes to the African Christian College in Africa to graduates for many years. This year there are 12 graduates and each bike is $200.00. If you would like to help her in this wonderful ministry please get with her or

Eleanor in the office. The college just celebrated their 50th anniversary.

The last Ladies Wednesday morning Bible class for 2017 will be December 13th. Class will resume on Wednesday,

January 3rd, 2018.

On Sunday, December 24th there will be no evening services. Also on Sunday, December 31st we will be having a

potluck after morning services followed by a short devo in lieu of evening services.
