What is Thanksgiving?

• An American? holiday when families meet? – To talk and play – To eat traditional food and– give thanks for all that we have in our lives.

History of Thanksgiving

• In the first months the Pilgrims lived in America, they didn’t know how

to hunt or to grow plants to eat.

• So the Native Americans decided to help the Pilgrims by teaching them how to hunt and grow plants to eat.

History of Thanksgiving• In the fall of 1621, when the plants were harvested,

the Pilgrims invited the Native Americans to a feast (or big dinner).

• The feast was to GIVE THANKS to the Native Americans for teaching the Pilgrims to hunt and grow plants to eat, so that they could survive in America.

• In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln said that this day of Thanksgiving will now and forever be a national holiday to celebrate the Pilgrims and to celebrate giving thanks.

This is why Thanksgiving is a holiday in the USA today!

sleep!...because tomorrow we will get up and we will

go shopping!

• Tomorrow is when the Christmas shopping season begins!

• There will be lots of people and lots of fun!So get your Christmas lists prepared!!
