National Volunteers Week 9th
– 15th
May
National Volunteers Week is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous
contribution of our nation's volunteers. With the theme Give Happy, Live
Happy, we celebrate and explore the research that shows volunteers live happier
and healthier lives.
Port Stephens Veterans & Citizens Aged Care would like to take this opportunity
to thank all our volunteers for the wonderful work they do such as helping with
afternoon teas, organising activities, assisting with transport, working in the
canteen, donating craft goods and raising funds to purchase items to make our
aged care residents more comfortable.

HARBOURSIDE HAVEN VILLAGE
TO ALL THE LADIES WHO SERVE IN THE CANTEEN
EVERY WEEK
The canteen is an important part of the Hostels. Residents order and receive their
favourite sweets, all personal items and a chat with the lady on duty that day.
This service is a very essential part of Harbourside Haven.
Thank you to Bart Richardson for the HUGE flower pot for the plant in the Recreation
Hall. It will be installed when I buy a dish for underneath it.
Also thanks to Shirley Bastian for her offer of a pot as well.
There is a FIRST AID BOX in the kitchen cupboard with the Red Cross on the front, for
emergencies. It has a few items for use.
LIBRARY
Going well. Most of the old books have been deleted, giving more room for new arrivals.
Thank you to the residents who donate books from time to time. Greatly appreciated..
BELATED BIRTHDAY GREETINGS
Congratulations to Ted Powell on his 90th Birthday in April. Ted has been a presence in
Harbourside Haven for many years and is an important member of our community.
CRAFT
If anyone has material or any sewing items they no longer want, the Craft ladies would be
only too pleased to receive it.
They do a lot of sewing for the craft shop, and the items can also be bought from the Craft
Room (near Maintenance) Open on Mondays from 9 to 12 noon. Many thanks to the
maintenance team for installing the sprinkling system.
JOY HART.

May Happy Mothers’ Day.
Greengs and best wishes to all readers, especially those who are not so well.
An expression of thanks from the Fingal Haven Craft Group to each and every one for their help and support on and before ‘The Fair’ on the 16th April. Our local business houses assisted with donation of items and vouchers for our raffle that gave a great variety of prizes and proved very successful. Also to thank, are residents who gave financial donations, and items for sale. All this allows us to continue our help to the Bill King Aged Care Facility. It is you people, whatever the weather, who make the function successful. Mollie Carter

GREETINGS FROM BERNIE THOMPSON PARK
Welcome home to John and Marie, Rae and John who have just returned from a leisurely cruise. Good to see you safely home. Our best wishes to Mary who had an unfortunate fall recently, necessitating a stay in John Hunter. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery. Also our thoughts are with Geoff, our moun-taineer, who has been a bit under par recently. ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATION – We celebrated this on the 21st April at our weekly get together, with some culinary delights I am sure the ANZACS would have enjoyed – home-made damper with golden syrup, scones with jam and cream, and ANZAC biscuits to name a few. Don’t forget, our weekly get-togethers now start at 3 pm. It is with much sadness we have learnt of two recent deaths in BTP – Rob Markey and Janice Steele. Our condolences to their families and friends. Carol Russell

Thank you to those who are observing the pet rules. As we have had a
number of new residents enter the villages recently, may we remind you of the
village rules relating to pets:

The pet must be on a lead at all times if it is outside of the villa.
The pet must not be a nuisance to neighbours.

resident makes a reasonable objection to your pet then the pet must be
removed from the premises.
