Mass Intentions for the Week

Stewardship at St. Joseph of Cupertino Saints Peter and Paul worked tirelessly to spread the Gospel. Not all can be apostles, but we, too, must be good stewards of our vocations, using our gifts in the service of God’s kingdom. How are we doing that?

Stewardship Prayer Rev. Gregory Kimm, 2009 God rich in kindness and generous in love, You call us to be your people, a church, a community of faith. You have entrusted St. Joseph of Cupertino Parish to our care. Help us to be good stewards, always worthy of your trust. As you are attentive to the needs of each of us, Enable us to be attentive to the needs of our parish, using the gifts you have given us not just for our own good, but for the good of all. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our Brother, and in the Spirit, who makes us one.

Amen!

St. Joseph of Cupertino Social Justice Ministry Mission State-ment. The center of the Church’s social teaching is the life, dignity and rights of every human person. Recognizing that the pursuit of social ministry is an essential part of what makes a parish Catholic, we commit ourselves to concrete works of charity, justice and peacemaking. As we prepare to celebrate our national day of Independence, let us reflect on our call to be a nation of “liberty and justice for all”. Excerpt from THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL by Pope Francis In his first Apostolic Exhortation, Pope Francis states, “Seeing the poverty ( of others) hearing their cries and knowing their sufferings, we are scandalized because we know that there is enough food for everyone and that hunger is the result of a poor distribution of goods and income. The problem is made worse by the generalized practice of wastefulness.” (April 2002 Na-tional Conference of the Bishops of Brazil) Yet…we are not simply talking about ensuring nourishment or a “dignified sustenance” for all people, but also their general temporal welfare and prosperity” (Pope John XXIII, Mater et Magistra, 1961) This means education access to health care and above all, em-ployment, for it is through free creative and participatory, and mutually supportive labor that human beings express and en-hance the dignity of their lives. A just wage enables them to have adequate access to all the other goods which are destined for our common use. (#191-192) The Parish Social Justice Ministry group meets on the first Monday of each month at 7pm in the Rectory. For information call Sister Rosemary Everett, snjm, (408) 656 -1311
