Seri Padu-ka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, entusiasta cavaliere lui stesso e partecipante alla gara, con questo Campionato del Mondo Enduran-ce 2008 e l’autorizzazione ed assistenza della Federazione Equestre Internazionale (FEI) ha aperto la prima volta all’Asia que-sto sport meraviglioso ed entusiasmante.Non possiamo dimenticare i problemi dovuti all’ambiente tropicale con le sue temperature (30 ° - 40°) la sua umidità (70-95%) le pioggie improvvise e fi tte che si sono succedute.Ma anche questo e’ Endurance, hanno detto quasi tutti i cava-lieri, entusiasti di questa esperienza dura ma indimenticabile.

A king, the King of Malaysia, His Royal Highness Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Abidin, an enthusiastic rider himself participated and his participation contributed much to the World Endurance Championship 2008 under the authorisation and assistance of the FEI, holding this sporting event for the fi rst time in Asia.We must point out that there were pro-blems, caused by the tropical temperatu-re (30°-40°) and the high level of humidity (70-95%). Also the intermittent rainfall, but this is also ‘Endurance’ rendering the Championship extremely diffi cult but unforgettable.

Gentilezza e di-sponibilità sono state alla base dei rapporti tra l’organizzazione malese e la press.

First of all, we the media, were re-ceived at the Terengganu Airport as heroes with gifts and fl ags and were then taken directly to a welcome dinner accompanied by music from the 60’s.On this occasion, thanks to the mutual love of horses, a feeling of friendship developed in this archi-tect of international union. Kindness and understanding formed a good rapport between the Malaysian organisers and the press!

Il giorno seguente al campo, il Terengganu International Endurance Park (TIEP)Lembah Bidong , primo ed unico villaggio endurance nel sud-est dell’Asia situato a Merang paese di pescatori 25 km a nord di Kuala Terengganu.Questo è un evento storico poiché oltre ad essere in una nazione tro-picale è la prima volta che una gara di endurance si svolge quasi tutta in notturna.Un lungo e largo tratto di pista di oltre 1 km offre ampio spazio per la partenza e l’arrivo del concorso con un sicuro traguardo e l’entrata di nuovo nel parco endurance (the International Endurance Park (TIEP) in Setiu.Una sala stampa organizzata con computers per tutti a fi anco di un locale tenda relax con ogni confort e pareti rivestite di bellissime foto giganti di cavalli.

The following day at the Terengganu International Park, the fi rst endu-rance village of south-east Asian located at Merang which is a fi shing village, 25 km north of Kuala Te-rengganu hosted the race.This event is a historical one, the fi rst Endurance race to be held in tropical conditions with some of it taking place during the night.A long and large stretch of the trail, (more than 1 km) offers an ideal pla-ce for the starting line of the chal-lenge, with a sure fi nishing line and the entry again into the International Endurance Park (TIEP) in Setiu.There was an organised pressro-om with computers for everyone, alongside which was a hospitality tent adorned with fantastic photo-graphs of horses.

Ancora grazie all’organizzazione che con suoi 46 “offi cialls”, giudici, veterinari e “stewards”con a capo il Presidente Italiano Maurizio Stecco hanno razionalizzato ogni situazione del momento e con i 120 partenti delle 32 nazioni la cosa non era da sottovalutare.

Due ali di folla con 10.000 persone assiste alla partenza di 127 cavalieri tutti desiderosi di fare bella fi gura. Fotografi e cineoperatori di tutte le nazioni presenti corrono verso i loro veicoli per poter seguire personalmente la prima tappa l’unica con la luce del sole prima della notte che si avvicina.

Il direttore tecnico del WEC Sig. Derek Liebemberg dice “ ogni cosa è stata fatta per garantire la sicurezza; abbiamo verifi cato tutto con grande attenzione e precisione ed i cava-lieri non devono preoccuparsi: 1200 sono i pali luminosi nelle sezioni del percorso, punti di controllo alle zone designate e tutti i gareggianti porteranno un GPS collegato a questi dispositivi. L’esercito malese sarà disposto lungo il percorso della gara. Un gruppo di medici specializzati per eventuali incidenti. La FEI ha deciso per la corsa notturna causa l’umi-dità I cavalieri devono essere preparati alla pioggia. Il nostro dept .metereologico prevede acqua persistente per oggi. Per gli europei questo sarà un bene. I cavalieri del Medio Oriente non sono particolarmente preoccupati. Secondo gli esperti i loro cavalli sono addestrati in ogni condizione”. Le previsioni della FEI sono per un 30% di binomi che fi nirà la gara. Verrà smentito dai risultati poiché la percentuale sarà del 38 % .

WEC Technical Director, Derek Liebenberg said: among the safety specs are the 1.200 light poles installed in sections of the course, check points at designated areas and all riders will be wearing a GPS tracking device.The Malaysian Army will be stationed along the course du-ring the race. The medical team is also well prepared should any untoward incidents occur. The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) decided on a night race due to the humid conditions here.Riders should be prepared for a wet race as the meteorologi-cal department is predicting heavy rainfall.This will not prove detrimental for the European riders who are hoping for rain and that their horses will last the who-le race. Riders from Middle Eastern countries are not too particular about the track and weather. According to endu-rance experts, their horses are trained to perform well in any conditions. FEI forecast that 30% of the binomial will fi nish the race but in actual fact the result will be 38%.

During an interview with a local tele-vision broadcaster, our team leader, Vergemino Testa, declared that he was satisfi ed with the setup of the race strategy that allowed the Italian team to qualify 3rd best in Europe and 6th best in the world. He thanked the Malaysian organisation for its extraordinary effi ciency, adding that he was looking forward to meeting again in Italy for the European Enduran-ce Championship Open, which will take place in Assisi - Italy from 17th to 27th September 09.
